I have had no substance abuse problems, but I have ongoing mental health problems. These are problems that others cannot deal with and everyone goes away in the end! Everyday I struggle to find a reason to live with depression and borderline personality disorder.

They were a fun bit of content at first, but then felt like a cheap grab at views. But the tide has turned a bit - listening to songs like this, sharing thoughts - it feels different now. More personal, more REAL. Anyway, I've gone on a bit there. It's quite hard having so many comments - which sounds odd. I mean, I've had an online presence for a while, whether on here or through streaming on Twitch, but after losing my best friend I've regressed a bit socially. So it can be quite overwhelming seeing SO many comments (I'll never complain though!), but seeing comments like this always make me feel a bit emotional. I appreciate always seeing your comments, the few who leave regular comments truly mean the world.
This video hits even more when you realize June, Johnny's wife who is seen in the video, died 3 months later and Johnny died 4 months after her. The closing of the piano at the end, to me, symbolizes the end of life, like closing a coffin lid. The song itself, even Trent's version, is so powerful, but the video is heart wrenching.

Eva Cassidy is another artist whose singing will both amaze you and rip your heart out. She passed away in her early 30s, so there's not a lot of videos available. You sound like you know some of Johnny Cash’s history. It would be impossible to go through his body of work and not know that he believed in in the inescapable reality of Jesus. The song echoes the reality, though not intended in the original, the old saying that “Only one life, it will soon be passed, only what’s done for Christ will last.“ I believe he clearly knew, as all Christians do, and the video portrayed, that it was the sin of all who would believe in Jesus, including Cash, that he paid for with every strike of the hammer that nailed him to the cross. Many visual juxtapositions ... but the younger images interspersed with the old man at the end of his life are absolute stabs to the heart, especially as you yourself age. Watching your vital parents age, weaken mentally and physically and then seeing it begin in your own face in the mirror. The what-ifs, the hurts you have inflicted on others that can't be mended. Feeling like you have it all and then finding out that you have cancer at 42 as the universe laughs and laughs at your *plans*. This is a humbling song that calls you to task for every wrong decision you've made and reminds you to keep your priorities straight. Use it wisely and make the changes you need to make so the pile of regret doesn't get higher. It's quite a deep song and will hit everyone differently, depending on where you are in life. I think the images in the video are probably more relatable to those dealing with the aging and mortality issues, whether yours or someone close to you, but honestly? The "old souls" see it, even when they're young. However it hits for you - use it. Great analysis and thank you for sharing your emotion. ❤️

I'll definitely check out that album! That's really cool that it's Nick Cave. I'm a big, big fan of The Mercy Seat! A beautiful song, and Johnny's deliverance is beautiful too. I also enjoyed I'm so Lonesome, not quite as much as Hank's recording - I was somewhat thrown off by Nick's vocals but not in a bad way - its hard to explain! I'll check it out :)

It's heartbreaking that this was the last time he closed the piano. It's even more heartbreaking to hear that he died of a broken heart.
