I used to watch air racing on Wide World of Sports. Probably watched these same planes.
WTH? Lo-res video in 2021? And the background music: STOP. We, in aviation have all the music we need, produced by the racers, themselves. The incidental music detracts from the commentary, and is unnecessary for the enjoyment of unlimited air racing. Please stop; we're not a bunch of teenagers.

I thought the P51’s hit 450+ anyway?
At high alt, yes
At low alt (SL) to hit 450+mph you need to modify heavily the P51, from aero changes to engine changes.
Can anyone tell me exactly how the engines on the Reno Racers have been modified compared to the original WW2 engines? I know that they've put special fuel in them and they suspend the normal operating limitations - but what other modifications have they made, exactly? Many thanks.

We lived on the north side of the races. A very weird and different time.the quality of the races certainly suffered the last few years

I'd love to actually hear the engines as the planes as they race, but no. Only the mindless chatter of announcers spitting out random blather.
If there was some of old RAF de- Havilland honests still around they would give them a run for their money.
The things were fast i can just imagine if they were given modern day modifications.

Well, you don't expect poor people to be flying race planes, do you? General aviation is not a poor man's undertaking, let alone building and fielding old warplanes!
