  • A Song of Drums and Tomahawks Review, including a review of the mechanics and systems of the larger Song of Blades and Heros-inspired games. Song of Drums and Tomahawk is Ganesha Games set of rules for playing American Indian wars dating from the First Anglo Powhatan war through to the Seminole war, though it is primarily concerned with the French and Indian War.

Thank you for the kind name-check, and greetings from a cold rainy Glasgow in Scotland.
An excellent review, which rightly points out the variety of games based on the "Song of Blades" activation system.
Each adds its own period flavour through specific rules.
I love the system's ability to stretch the players' command ability.
You always need your troops to do more, but fear to demand too much for fear of losing control of your army.
And like most of the best rules, the system is simple, elegant and flexible.
Congratulations on a fine review Ron.

There will be at least one game video coming as well.

Great stuff, thanks for the in depth review of a fairly obscure system.

Yet again what a useful review. It's like listening to, and it is a compliment, a cross between Hemingway and Hunter S Thompson. Much to the horror of my partner, the most excellent of women, I have announced that I will be fighting a 15th century scurrers encounter using the base Songs of Blades and Heroes rules over Xmas. Interesting that the rules can accentuate, as it were, the French and Indian war. I have the Fear and Faith and Arthur and Merlin supplements, the latter works particularly well. With best wishes.

Two interesting authors, thank you for the comment. I might start using them for some Border Reiver stuff, like the scurrer idea!

I hadn't thought of using SOB&H for Border Reivers. What a good idea. I painted about forty of the old Vendel reiver figures a long time ago but never found a rule set to debut them with. Worth a shot.

Would you be able to use Melee formats in other set ups outside of nepoleonic war games, like WWI/WW2?

Fistfull of lead would be the version you would want for WWI or WWII
