Two items to review. 1st item, are the "radio settings configured for an "external tuner"? 2nd item, are you using the factory control cable and is it correctly installed? The mini-din connectors at the ends of the control cable are easy plug-in incorrectly and damage the connector. I had similar issues when i was using and "RG-45" connector adapter. Ended up taking off the RG-45 connectors and splicing a 100-foot Lan patch cable to the mini-dins. Now works great.
@@hemihead radio is set to external tuner, the cable is factory, might be used, but shows no sign of wear or damage. I have a second shorter cable that I know is good. I will try that today when I get off work. I also tried it using an 857d with no luck.
hi ther ar severel mods you can make to it you can put 500 wthru it at firt ther are a fev coil mods to do and relay swap the lenght of wier antenna is 150m max 4 the comunication part with the radio i sugest you chage the pig tails wit panel tip conectors the have a tendanci to brake in tame and take on water and crosion on the pins avoid cat cable if you can stranded 8 wier cable with shielding and soderd 8 pin mini din on the end to the radio cat cable hav atendency to brack from roling and anroling maximum distance betwin tuner and radion of counication cable is 75m iformation receved from yaesu after 8 monts
all info i have is from testing on my own gear and from Yaesu corporation i have 2 of the fc 4 and 1 fc 50 1 fc 40 is moded one is not they are gret devices 4 fiel and fixed use if you dont want to macke 1 antenna 4 every ham band if you ount the tuner outside macke a sort of cover 4 it rain pruf and sun pruf the oring on the unit degrades rapadly in the sun and water gets on the pcb and a good ground rod it needs a very good grounding sistem no radial just a good erth ground a galvanaised pipe about 2 meter deep in ground conected to the ground of the tuner and mounted to it mackes wonders to this little device

Mine will not work with my 891. As soon as I push the tune button on the rig, it immediately turns it back off. Any advice?

Is this any better than the built in tuner in the Ft-991a?
