Yeah it took me 5 hours to get Anthony Edwards on the kings in my rebuild. Took me Lebron, Scottie Barnes, three and a half star first rounder from charlotte, and an 85 ovr malik monk to get him. I don’t think Hali would be that easy to get either.
I think Orlando is a sneaky Markkanen team.Them and Houston are two teams who have the combination of cheaper controllable young players and draft picks that Utah is likely looking for. I'm thinking a package of Anthony Black, Jett Howard, two unprotected firsts, two protected firsts, two 1st round pick swaps, and two seconds can get Markkanen. Even with that trade, they would still have the assets to upgrade Cole Anthony to Anfernee Simons. Simons and Markkanen would take their shooting from a team weakness last year to a team strength with their additions. They would only be slightly down grading their defense because Black would be the only really good defender they would need to give up. Not to mention, Simons and Markkanen are still young enough that this Orlando staff could actually turn them into plus defenders.
Lauri to ORL is interesting, not something I rly considered. He’s not gonna get traded in 24-25, that’s no longer happening. He’s gonna re negotiate and extend w/ Utah and past the date where he can still be moved. But after that? Who knows. I have no idea how it’d look, but it’d be fun lol. I’m not an ORL fan, not a POR fan, not a UTA fan, no attachment to any of these guys beside a little to Franz I guess as a UoM fan. But for some reason I’ve wanted to see Simons go to ORL for a long time now. Just seems too perfect to me. Suggs is the perfect backcourt mate for him especially now that he’s hitting his 3s at a high level. I don’t think Franz will be some elite 3P shooter…this year was the outlier IMO. He’s more of a 37% type guy on solid volume to me. Paolo is a beast, really good all around player. Good feel. I do think 30% USG is a bit high for him tho and I think it’d be best for that to come down a bit. Only 36% of his 2PA were assted, 65.5% of 3PA. If he can get a cpl more shots at the rim and improve from shorter midrange, cut out the super long 2s, have more of his FGA be assted. Maybe sustain like 35-36% 3P, then you really wouldn’t need to have WCJr as much. ESPECIALLY if Isaac can just hit some corner 3s and play some 5, stay healthy enough to even play 50-60G/y at 20MPG or so? Their DEF would be more than good enough to support having Simons play and do his thing on offense. IMO he can pass, I saw him run POR’s offense for a decent period of time and he did well. I don’t think he’s some elite floor general, but with all of those other capable passers he doesn’t need to be elite. We know he can play on and off ball too, and shoot the lights out on massive 3P volume. If he’s playing with 4 good to really good defenders basically always I don’t see any issue. And if POR is smart they’ll move him by the deadline while he still has 1.5-2y left on his deal. Focus on Scoot, Sharpe, and their other young guys. KCP is on a 2+1, but I don’t think Simons will take a bunch of assets. Plus by the time they have to pay Simons, KCP will be an expiring and that’s if he opts in. Maybe that DEN pick, Cole Anthony (he could go to a 3rd team idk), then an expiring salary like Gary Harris, and one solid asset. The DEN 1st isn’t very good obviously but it’s still a 1st. I think Cole is prolly worth a couple 2nds, ORL can save POR some $ bc they’re only 3.7M from the tax, so Cole+Harris for Simons would save them 7-8M. Then I’d say one more 1st, I assume POR would want it in the distant future and lightly protected. So something like Cole/Harris/DEN 1st/then whatever 1st they want between say ‘27-‘30 like T3-T4 protected for Simons? Just an idea. I don’t think you want to run Scoot/Simons/Sharpe 1-3, Sharpe is a 2 to me, and while Simons is still young…I don’t see him as part of the next really good POR team especially since he’s gotta get paid again in 2 more years. I think he’s kinda perfect age wise for ORL. Young enough to be around for a long time, but old enough to contribute immediately. And hey maybe he can at least be not terrible on DEF. He’s always played next to other small guards that haven’t been good defenders. He’s never gonna be a GOOD defender, but could he be okay? Even if he’s break even to slightly below that’d be huge. And yea he’s only 6’3, but he’s got a 6’9+ wingspan 🤷♂️

However, that wingspan you were talking about is why he could be a GOOD off-ball defender (piling up Stocks) in the Orlando system. Since, you spend more time off-ball than on ball, he could potentially progress to an above average defender (If his on-ball defense gets anywhere near league average).
