This mixtape came out when I was 20 in college. Had many late night gym sessions to this. I’m 34 now. So happy these projects are DSPs now! Love your context Jon! Shoutout from the states!
Imagine being a kid at 15 years old in 2009, growing up in the South. I listened to this tape religiously. J. Cole was literally the first rapper I heard that had a similar background as me who would rap about the things I was experiencing. Girls, sports, school, and homeboys who were going down a different path. It's not a stretch to say this guy was a role model for me and I'm so glad he's stayed genuine to the person and rapper he portrayed way back before the money and fame.
This mixtape brings such a strong sense of nostalgia for me man, got me through some tough times. I still bump this every now and then. This will always have a special place in my heart and will always be in my list of the greatest records of all time.
My favourite project from Cole and my favourite mixtape of all time. So glad other listeners get a chance to experience this tape. So many great songs on this tape but the motivation I get from Grown Simba and Get Up 😤
I remember back in like 2014 this dropped on iTunes and my dumb 15yo self thought it was a new album from Cole lol. Needless to say I rinsed this project and loved it great memories
also, on the track you skipped, the squeeky voice represents a young cole. sally is sally mae, a common name to refer to the us government. its collections calling, which is why hes ignoring it he has their notice letters in his drawer
Sally Mae was a student loan servicer before but your sentiment still stands. I was so sad he skipped that because I know that part resonates with so many of us, especially because we were college kids at the time. I guess its one of those "you had to be there" moments.
The talking to the shoes line is deeper than having her head down looking at her shoes. She was so shocked at the devastating news that she dropped the phone in the floor so the other person was talking to her shoes!
Dude i swear your editor edited out all of the most fire bars😂😂😂 every time i get ready to go in rappin here come a jump cut.... thanks for the vid tho.
You definitely need to listen to this mixtape from Cole's prospective at that time and his development now. been riding with these mixtapes from way back. My favourite rapper.
Idk if you have listened to his podcast he doing but it’s really great and it really explains his journey from the beginning…and he plays a lot of unreleased tracks
The reason he was "trying too hard" on Dead Presidents II is because when he did Dead Presidents on The Come Up I think Jay-Z said that he didn't come hard enough on this beat so he did this one and he absolutely killed it
Dollar and a dream 2 Cole summer Sideline Story Too deep for the intro Chaining Day Runaway Nobodys perfect Love Yourz St Tropez 4 your eyez only Best cole songs
Keep up the great content. How about a review of party all the time by Eddie Murphy ? Dude had the world in a chokehold. Number 1 movie , stand up and song in the world at the same time .
I definitely suggest you relisten to born sinner. Doesnt have to be a reaction but i didnt like that album until i went back into it last week and its a very good project imo i appreciate it way more
Fun fact, the track I get up was recorded in late 2007 uploaded making of the song in January 2008 actually referencing President George Bush at the time not Barack Obama.
Real ones had these mixtapes go double platinum in their local files before it hit streaming. I Get Up is one of my all time favourite tracks.
real talk
Bro I was a sophomore in high school putting on all my friends to this mixtape, damn near cry when I hear these songs
@@MKultraInstinct The Warm Up and FNL helped me get through uni. Graduated last year. Timeless joints I guess.
Had all mixtapes from datpiff still on my phone
Friday night lights re reaction is needed
He already has a reaction prior to its release on DSPs
That’s why they said ‘re reaction’

@@institutionalizedmark nobody likes you
This is still Cole's best work, and that's a hill I will happily die on.
I agree.
damn better than FNL? I might have to run them back to back. Theyre def both in my top 3 for Cole but FNL felt so complete and polished
@ninorivera407 idk which 1 I like better but they both fire
This mixtape came out when I was 20 in college. Had many late night gym sessions to this. I’m 34 now. So happy these projects are DSPs now! Love your context Jon! Shoutout from the states!
Damn old head lol jk I was a freshman In high school when this dropped
i was 20 when this dropped as well iykyk
facts. graduating HS to this is peak nostalgia
im graduating HS this year but i've listened to this and FNL all 4 years, timeless mixtapes
This mixtape changed my life

Dead Presidents II is one of the best Cole tracks, you're tripping balls
Jcole fulfills my soul, gives me hope, makes me believe in myself
Poor Jon.. that childhood football story at the end is devastating 😂😂
This mixtape brings such a strong sense of nostalgia for me man, got me through some tough times. I still bump this every now and then. This will always have a special place in my heart and will always be in my list of the greatest records of all time.
This mixtape takes me back to a time when life was simple,
favorite mixtape of all time .. irreplaceable the vibes i felt in college first hearing this
I Get Up & Get Away were legit my theme songs in freshman year in '16.
What a blessing this video is
My favourite project from Cole and my favourite mixtape of all time. So glad other listeners get a chance to experience this tape. So many great songs on this tape but the motivation I get from Grown Simba and Get Up 😤

cole the warm up is like a different human.... his best work
I’ve been subscribed to you for ages, love your work!
The warm-up is pretty much all I listen to in college. It was my introduction to him until this day. I can’t name five better mixtapes
Grown Simba will forever give me goosebumps
also, on the track you skipped, the squeeky voice represents a young cole. sally is sally mae, a common name to refer to the us government. its collections calling, which is why hes ignoring it he has their notice letters in his drawer

@ ahh i always thought it was like uncle sam, good to know though
I was waiting for this relisten with fresh more mature ears from u and u didnt disappoint well done lad 👏🏼👏🏼
How you tell stories is unmatched!
2010 , hold it down brings me to tears every time
Am I the only who thinks that The Warm Up is his best mixtape
I like it better than FNL.
FNL > The warm up imo
Love ur mixtape journey
Yessir this my favorite Cole along side “the come up” and “Friday night lights”
in my early 20s hearing this for the first time yesterday and it's exactly what you say, so inspiring
Friday night lights gone blow your mind
Cole's 2nd verse on his 2nd try at Dead Presidents is my fav Cole verse. chillsssss
imo the best mixtape of all time
Can I Live still gives goosebumps now..🔥🔥🔥 Dead Presidents II was crazy as well. Still the Greatest Mixtape 💯
Such a great mixtape, you can hear the hunger in every song, great reaction!
The warm up and Friday night lights are hands down Coles best projects
Facts
just a quick note..
her sister is on the other line talking to the mother's shoes, not her own, because the "phone dropped when she heard the news"
YES this is what we waiting for
I was in HS when this came out. Gave me a perception of rap I didn't have at the time. Classic in my eyes.
Love that you’re reacting to these! We need your reaction to Mach-Hommy Richaxxhaitian!!
Lights Please was the song that got Cole signed to Jay Z's label btw
The talking to the shoes line is deeper than having her head down looking at her shoes.
She was so shocked at the devastating news that she dropped the phone in the floor so the other person was talking to her shoes!
Dude i swear your editor edited out all of the most fire bars😂😂😂 every time i get ready to go in rappin here come a jump cut.... thanks for the vid tho.
I really hope he does Friday night lights that’s by far my favorite Cole mixtape
He reacted to it years ago
Absolutely crazy take!
This and Born Sinner are my favorite 2 records from J Cole!
DO FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
He did 4 years ago
@ revamped reaction
You definitely need to listen to this mixtape from Cole's prospective at that time and his development now. been riding with these mixtapes from way back. My favourite rapper.
31:57 sally here refers to short form for a company that provides loans. A really intelligent smilie ngl
Grown Simba might be one of Cole’s most slept on tracks. Different type of hype for real
Hopefully him releasing his old albums on streaming platforms means the falloff is coming soon 🙏🏽
Classic mixtape. Front to back
Sallie is a reference to Sallie Mae who is major student loan provider in the States.
you should listen to the new james blake "like the end" track its abolutely insane and the music vid is really cool
what a fire ass mixtape 🔥🔥
You know the song hits different when it makes JD hit the most British “fkn el” at 4:26 🤣
No way this your first time 🤣 master piece 🎶
This was playing everyday I was in the gym...2010 times!
Idk if you have listened to his podcast he doing but it’s really great and it really explains his journey from the beginning…and he plays a lot of unreleased tracks
This is undoubtedly a classic tape but FNL could be a top 10 classic rap album period. Love these reviews thanks Jon. Also give young Cole a break 😂
Jesus 59 seconds I wasn’t even looking for this yet
certified classic
gotta listen to the warm up to the warm up. has my favorite cole songs "song for the ville" and "show me somethin"

The song Get Up was def made before 2009 a.k.a Bush admin
This was one of Mac Miller's favourite mixtapes too ❤
Dead presidents II 👌
Favourite track of this is still the badness man the memories
What a treat to come back from school to 🙏
Watching this during lunch lmao
Definitely a very good album!
lmao that football story had me crying
✋🏽I’m down for you to (re) react to every Cole album 😁
The reason he was "trying too hard" on Dead Presidents II is because when he did Dead Presidents on The Come Up I think Jay-Z said that he didn't come hard enough on this beat so he did this one and he absolutely killed it
Fun fact. The song power trip is pt 2 to the song dreams
Classic
Need that re-reaction to Friday Night Lights!!

We need a new FNL reaction to complete the trilogy!

A redux for FNL is a must
Dollar and The Dream II samples the same drums that were sampled for SAMIDOT
Yes do FNL again pls
We still waiting on a reaction to Ab-Soul's SoulBurger !
Lets goooo
You should definitely do a redo for FNL
Fun fact, the track I get up was recorded in late 2007 uploaded making of the song in January 2008 actually referencing President George Bush at the time not Barack Obama.
He’s saying this might be his favorite. But wait til he hears FNL. In for a treat Jon
He already listened to FNL
@ ooooo. Damm. No resction?
@@J3KR he said he has alr reacted to it previously. He might do a redux now tho.
