Mallory is such an awesome character. Also, I've noticed many people put her very high on the list of Most Horrible Cartoon Parents. Oh, she's up there. Probably as high as Beatrice Horseman. Both were and are terrible mothers. However, the only difference between Mallory and Beatrice, is that Mallory actually cares about her son's safety. Any time she thinks Archer has been severely harmed/killed, she does show genuine concern and upset. Beatrice, honestly, if Bojack died, she honestly wouldn't care. Archer may be fucked up because of Mallory, but Bojack is both broken and fucked up because of Beatrice. And that, to me, is way worse. TokyoQueen I thought the exact same about Beatrice until season 4 happened. After that I kinda had a bit of pity for Beatrice but it certainly doesn't make up for ruining Bojack's childhood. However I have noticed if deep down in her cold heart she really does care for her son. She kept him when she found she was pregnant and honestly had she gone with Corbin Creamerman, I think she would've been loving and caring but with what Butterscotch put her through, yeah Id see why she became even more bitter and mean. But I think she really does love Bojack but she doesn't know how to express it. She is my favorite character because having seen how her entire life was and how she grew it just surprised me. But I also think Malory is pretty awesome. I wish I were as coordinated as her.

She's a sociopath but clearly cares very much for her son and isn't too emotionally damaged to actually show compassion. Basically Bojack and Beatrice are two very VERY broken people, likely beyond any kind of repair. They're both products of their upbringing and have slowly turned to poison, spreading it to whoever they're around. Archer and Mallory are just kinda nuts and she's just....really not very good at the whole maternal thing.
