Agreed, 100%. We lost one of the great classical music composers and interpreters of Mandigue music and culture of all time! RIP indeed! Your work on guitar deserves a huge congratulations as well for finding such a well defined bridge between the kora and guitar - it has truly expanded for me what is actually possible on the guitar and is just mind blowing to see you also play baselines, accompaniment and melody all on the guitar. Just great! Some of your work here, specifically at around the 20:20 mark for me recalls Malagasy classical guitar music. Maybe it is more South African (because it's yours, of course) or entirely different so please excuse any ignorance on my part here. Would love and look forward to possible seeing you collaborate with more classical artists from Africa and anywhere really but your solo work is also just pure gold! Thank you Derek Gripper.
@@MatthewBanks-manomebe thank you very much. There's a new recording with myself and Ballaké Sissoko which may interest you - than you for your kind words.
@@DerekGripperGuitar Very much looking forward to getting ahold of this recording. I have started listening to your performance with Ballaké Sissoko from the Ancient Stone Quarry almost every day and it hits me somewhere deep down every time. It is a blessing to all that you decided to work together.
Toumani! RIP - The Doc's music lives forever.
