Hoarders ❤️ Kids Room Extreme DeClutter Part 1 | Clean with Me Motivation

  • This episode is very special to my heart bc I’m creating it with my oldest son Brandon. I keep his face off camera to protect his privacy. He wanted to clean, DeClutter and upgrade his room because he wanted to have a nice space for himself! I let him take the lead in Decluttering and Cleaning! Inside I’ve always worried that one of my boys would have hoarding disorder so it is important to help them not developed those hoarding behaviors. Brandon did a fantastic job and taught me some valuable life sessions too ❤️

Yes. They outgrow their childhood things.
I tried to teach my children that every item they own needs to be assigned a home where they keep it. And it all must fit in designated area. Put things back in their home. New items need to be assigned a home.

I love the way you thought it thru when you had the thought that you would go thru the garbage and keep some of the stuff he was getting rid of. That is such a huge step in any recovery. Beautiful! Also, Pepper is a lucky baby to find her forever home with you all!!

When Brandon was talking about how to tell if a card is fake or not, and explaining the black line, I could hear the anxiety in your voice when he was going to rip the card. Thank you for hearing him out and trusting his judgement on ripping the card. I unfortunately did not have trusting parents, they questioned everything step I took, and it really did damage to mentally long term. From my inner child, thank you for being a good mom.

My mom is a closet hoarder (she's in denial cause her stuff is "organized", but she has an entire room crammed full of stuff like you can't even get in there it's so full). When I was growing up my mom would complain about my room being messy and tell me I needed to go through my things. So I would. I'd get rid of a lot of stuff, AND SHE'D KEEP IT. I find the things I had gotten rid of months before just squirrelled away somewhere else in the house. Sometimes she still shows me clothes she "got at a yardsale" and I have to remind her that I actually decluttered those items months prior.

My mom totally did the trash can thing. When I was 18, she had me grab a box out of the attic and open it. It was all those childhood toys I had tossed lol. We had a good laugh but then I made sure that they were truly trashed after that. It's great you're aware *now* and working on it.

I found with my children and now my grandchildren, it’s best to let them decide what to keep. Otherwise it all ends up on the floor when they try to find the “good toys” to play with. They’re much more ruthless than I am.

I got rid of things regularly as I would get bored and I would clean out dresser drawers and the closet. Many decades later I would think I should have kept those things...but I would get over those thoughts n a minute. Kids should enjoy their toys and as they grow older, it's time to move on to the next age appropriate toys. It's a progression and most homes don't have the space to keep everything. The stress of seeing clutter is too much for me. Your son is doing a great job of decluttering!

Boy, are you right! A therapist once remarked that hoarding disorder reminds her of a big, dark house. She says she attempts to help her clients 'turn the lights on' so they can look into the corners, the closets, under the beds, etc. for the background of hurt and loss and dysfunction which underlies the need to compulsively save. Didn't you say something like this? So true. I bet you are helping a lot of folks who may never come to your attention but will do better because you are sharing with such candor and accuracy. God bless you, sincerely!

My 12 year old is cutthroat. She throws stuff out that we can still use, or donate. So when she cleans her room I check the trash bags when she's done 🤣

I don't think I will ever understand why monster energy drinks are popular for decor.😅 I would double check that are clean before letting him do that. I don't think he would want ants! But you're such a great mom you probably already did!👍❤️

I even wanted to keep some of the items he was tossing! Congratulations on stepping back and letting Bradon make the decisions! That had to be hard. I know that material things shouldn't be more important than other things. But, as you say, there are a lot of issues that cause hoarding. When I look back on my life, I realise that I never had a chance to become the person I would have liked to be. I'm retiring and it's too late. I will just have to make do realising that this is my life.

Please don't use glass cleaner on the monitor. It will damage the screen. Just a dust off with a microfiber cloth or if you really need to clean it there are sprays and wipes made specifically for LCD screens.

I grew up with a hoarder and my house is as minimal as I can get it with three children. That was very strong of you and shows a lot of growth that you allowed him to make the decisions and fought your urge to question his choices…Good for both of you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.
