    Once Conor got his boxing license, he became a professional boxer. He's no different than Canelo or Mosley. He's entering his first professional fight, but it is a sanctioned and professional fight nonetheless. All the stats in this fight should count and should go on the record of both fighters.
    Let's say, instead of Conor, Floyd fought a no name amateur making his pro debut. That would still be counted as a professional fight and it would count as Floyd having a 50-0 record. Just because it's a pro debut doesn't mean it doesn't count.
    People only call this fight an "exhibition" because of how lopsided they feel this fight will be. This isn't Thunderlips vs Rocky. Conor isn't stepping into the ring barefoot wearing 4 oz gloves.

They're fighting for the "Lineal', Ring plus WBA, WBC, IBF titles. Spence is much taller, has longer reach, way bigger, heavier. Rocky Marciano was great but he was overrated. His best career wins are to a washed Joe Louis, a washed Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles. When you compare this record to an Ali, Foreman, Holyfield. Lewis, Louis, Holmes it just doesn't stack up.

  • @bozeeke
    @bozeeke 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well the point both Max and Steven A. are missing (which surprises me given that they are supposedly boxing experts) is that 50-0 is not really a record. Marciano's 49-0 is the longest undefeated streak only in the heavyweight division. The longest record in all of boxing is 87-0 set by Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Chavez went 87-0 before having a draw, then went 91-0-1 before finally losing a fight, plus there have been several previous champions with more than 50 wins on their resume prior to losing. As I said, 49-0 is only the heavyweight record. Floyd can't touch that because he's never competed at heavyweight. He doesn't qualify to chase the Marciano record due to not competing in that weight class and at age 40 he will never catch Chavez at 87-0. I can't believe how Max, a supposed boxing expert doesn't get that.

  • @breakaway2x
    @breakaway2x 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are undefeated, it only means that you didn't have the balls to fight better opponents. There is no such thing as an undefeated or perfect fighter. Greatness doesn't come from being undefeated, it comes from facing adversity and overcoming it. Floyd hasn't bothered to take on the best at their best (ie. Pacquiao, Mosely, Marquez, etc)....were all out of their primes or certain conditions they had to meet that diminished their levels (ie see Marquez and how much weight he had to put on in such a short time...he looked fat...then look at him later vs pacquiao how he was ripped and on roids).
    Floyd ducked a lot of great fights out there....he should have taken on a prime Sergio Martinez and GGG.

    Stephen A. and Max Disagree Over Floyd Mayweather's Undefeated Record | First Take | ESPN
    On a recent episode of ESPN's First Take, Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman engaged in a heated debate over the legacy of Floyd Mayweather's undefeated boxing record. Stephen A. argued that Mayweather's unblemished record is a testament to his unparalleled skill, strategy, and dedication to the sport. He highlighted Mayweather's impressive victories over top-tier opponents and his ability to adapt and dominate in the ring. Conversely, Max Kellerman contended that while Mayweather's record is impressive, it does not necessarily make him the greatest of all time. Max pointed out that Mayweather often chose opponents strategically, sometimes avoiding fighters in their prime, which, in his opinion, slightly diminishes the value of his undefeated status. The debate encapsulated the broader discussion within the boxing community about how to measure greatness and the legacy of fighters.

    This is my whole ordeal with this, Rocky had a real padded record and there's many facts on that. Floyd had come back fights with guys that were tune up fights and would fight the champ the next fight. Rocky would face bums fight after fight and there are stories on some fighters taking dives. Floyd doesn't have that kind of history with questionable losses other than maybe a fight that was very close and he gave him a rematch to just shut him up.

    I have no dog in this fight but based off knowledge from debate class SAS ignored all of Max's points. Max clearly stated that other boxers with a 50-0 record also fought guys who were not boxers. If it counts for them then why not Floyd? He completely dodged that point in his rebuttal.

    I don't think people should put these records in one box. Max is right because majority boxing rankings don't put Marciano in top 5 and sometimes not even top ten all-time because of his mediocre competition compared to others. It should just be about top Middleweight boxers and top Heavyweight boxers, regardless of record beacuse alot of fights are questionable

  • @stevenmonash6284

    • @AWesker99
      @AWesker99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it's not. The lighter weight classes have much more technically superior boxers. Most heavyweights are slow, basic, and uncoordinated, which is why Ali and Tyson's speed, movement, and technical ability was so revered. That's commonplace for anybody below 160.

    I disagree with Stephen A. He makes valid points but I also agree with Max. Here's where Stephen A is wrong. Floyd is not a champion since he retired from the sport and shouldn't be treated as if he were. At this point it's just two boxers going into a fight. There's no belts at stake. The question on everyones mind is if a MMA fighter can defeat a boxer in their own sport. We know a boxer can't defeat a MMA fighter 95% of the time. There are always exceptions. That's what's at stake.
