As originally published in 1915 it was listed as flute-violin-viola or two violins and viola. The flute-alternate violin part is separate and in parenthesis says "Bearbeitung der Flotenstimme" (adapted from the flute part), but except for one or two short passages where the violin plays the flute part transposed an octave down, the violin part is absolutely identical to the flute part. It sounds good both ways.
Nice! But this piece is also for flute, violin, and viola. I would suspect that is the original scoring ... ?
