this shit makes me feel like i'm the child of a steppe nomad staring out at the starry sky in the night as everyone sleeps on a tent, fully unaware that tomorrow we're all going to be annihilated by nuclear hellfire we had no idea was coming
"Hello, thank you for listening to our music. I hope it gives you some joy and pleasure..." No, Mr. Gira, this shit makes me incredibly tense and slightly disoriented/disturbed.. but i love it so much. ty!
The first half is quite tender and calm but a little unsettling with Gira's classic vocals but then the beat comes in half-way through and it slowly transitions into this terrifying, lumbering beast and the end of the world itself. I feel like too often the post-rock trilogy from Swans got labelled as "apocalyptic", but holy shit does this one deserve that label.
Your writing is brilliant… im going to screenshot and save it. post scriptum Pardonez-moi for my poor English, i just meant your comment has been very well written and emotional :)
Only ever heard bits of this album here and there now and then so it's still quite new to me, but whilst I'm trying to listen and at the same time distracted doing housework, I feel like I'm just not able to take in and take on the enormity of whats presenting itself to my ears. The noise is there, in the room, but its tugging away demanding from me much much more than I can give right now. I'm a bit speechless.
May moonlight fall upon your breast May god send wind to lick your lips The river flows beneath your comb Granite, pines -silver shine, green velvet throne Folding in, folding in, the water brings the flower string Folding in, folding in, the water sings the black horse scream May planets crash, may god rain ash, to sear our skin, to fold us in Kneeling close, seeking hands, our blood is warm, but what comes next I will let it go, I will let it go I can't let it go, I can't let it go I will let it go, I will let it go I can't let it go, I can't let it go I won't let it go, I won't let it go I will let it go, I will let it go I can't let it go, I won't let it go I will let it go, I can't let it go I will let it go, I won't let it go I will let it go, I can't let it go
The songs on this album are considered by most to be "apocalyptic"- but I don't think they're quite that simple. Maybe I'm just drawing too much from the crying baby cover art, but I think instead of ushering in the end of man, they're welcoming man at his birth. They are foreshadowing the imminent terror he is about to endure and the beauty he will witness concurrently. They're not warnings but explanations delivered with pure sincerity. So they need to be a little unpleasant
This is the only song that I heard in all my life, that made me feel genuinely anxious and nauseous in the first time I listened it. This ending is a true work of genius, briliant!
I read recently that this track was written about Kirsten Dunst's character-Justine in the film (one of my favourites) Melancholia! Can anyone confirm? I'd like to believe it anyway, why not eh?!
yes i believe this is true - all of the lyrics match the film as well, and kirsten supine refers to when kirsten was lying 'supine' on a river bank in a big scene in the movie!
It's a lot to take in, almost too much. I closed my eyes and it felt like there was a bright light shining in my face, except there was no warmth coming off of it.
Just to keep things clear: I love this song. The entire thing, but I've seen some people looking for the "breaking point" in it before. I agrre with Gavin, you should be here for 0:00

Ryan Bergen is it weird that i think this sounds nice and not disturbing or tense at all (expect for the last part)
@@tiago9679 no the beginning is beautiful the ending is terrifying
I love how this album is as emotional as it is purely psychotic
just like life, darling
It's like a sad punch to the face.
Clearly
that little guitar lick that happens during the verses is so pleasant to hear
listening to swans is like getting up too fast
this is true
I JUST WOKE UP TOO FAST TO THIS I FORGOT MY LAPTOP ON HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
More like getting eviscerated and reformed into a Godly being by the pure white light of infinity
I find it interesting how you can still hear harmony within the chaos
thats the main thing ive noticed about this album is that no matter how chaotic it gets you can still find the beat somewhere to keep it grounded
literally shoegaze
@@icehot900no. There are some good shoegaze songs but it's basically noise music fused with indie rock and pop. Not anything to do with Swans

Swans created some of the most insane\powerful pieces of music ever. My number 1 band for sure
If there's a song worth crying rivers to, here it is!
Bro I swear this is Giras most controlled vocals. 😂
This is an alternative way of existing
An enormous monster
And a peaceful goddess at the same time BRILLIANT

The ending sounds like a robot being strangled to death. 10/10
This makes me want to cry or pull my hair out,or both.
I love this song. Melancholia by von Trier provided the inspiration. The art of it is everything else.
This is outrageous.. I got 3 ads in this song. And i have just only passed the middle mark..
My favorite song off of tbk
Same probably
This is my last Swans heartbreaking and breathtaking song.
That advertisement is a gaddamned sin!!!
The crescendo Is absolutely asphixiating

Ok but considering this song is literally inspired by a movie about a planet crashing into Earth you're really wrong there

the second half of this song feels like being pummeled to death
This is just… perfection

Liza yes I confirm Gira wrote it after watching melancholia (or maybe I read the same lie as you?)
yes i believe this is true - all of the lyrics match the film as well, and kirsten supine refers to when kirsten was lying 'supine' on a river bank in a big scene in the movie!
If you go on the Genius page for this song it has the interview that he says it’s about Kirsten Dunst in. It’s 100% about Melancholia.
Laleen Darshika are you correcting me? Cause I spelt it right
Yup.
Joy and pleasure. Yes it does.

Wonderful album, thank you.
I just instruct my self in his voice
Wasnt this song inspired by a Lars Von Trier film?
Yeah, Melancholia
Oddly beatiful
I was in Discord VC with a friend and I meant to play Turning Japanese by Kirsten Dunst on the music bot but it took this song instead.
best mistake of your life
