This is where I got to experience someone else's raid salt for the first time. The vast majority of folks here didn't know what they were doing (as expected with how the Crystal Tower raids are now mandatory for MSQ), and the experienced folks didn't tell us anything until after the fact. What they DID tell us wasn't very helpful, as it was less "advice" and more "complaining in loud but vague ways ("BRUV, TOWERS THO" "WTF Y NO TETHER?" etc.)". I came to this video for a post-mortem review of that debacle, and I'll make sure to spread this advice as necessary to other sprouts in the future.
Yep, came to these videos after failing to heal properly on raid tower 1, and got told to suck a fat one and get good at healing. In short, I told the player to fuck off with his rude attitude.. :-D I have no idea why, but ffxiv players seem to think you should know the mechanics even if you are very clearly a sprout. Its the most irritating part of the playerbase for sure
@@orenji810 I've never encountered anyone like that in FFXIV But granted I just re subbed months ago. FFXIV usually has a great playerbase I guess the new wave of players isn't a good thing.
@@SauceCup It usually only happens in alliance raids in my experience, theres always that one dude whose gotta be an asshole or a troll about things and play the victim card if you call them out.
My suggestion/request: Make guides for any old endgame content that is no longer as hard as it once was. Miz and Happy guides are great, but as I never played that stuff when it was new, I find your guides to be infinitely more useful as it pertains to the experiences as they exist NOW. If you have the will to do it, I say cover as much of it as you can :D
I am uploading the first updated guide to Coil today! I knew they were needed, I just didn't realize how much they were needed. So...I am gonna do as much as I can.
This had to be the most stressful, terrifying experience I've had with this game so far. I was made to feel like I was letting the alliance down, another tank was butting heads with me because I turned the hydra away with provoke when they weren't, and just. Yeah. I get the feeling nobody really knows what they're doing but they expect it to go as perfectly as any other duty. Which I would be okay with... if this were like any other duty. But nah, I got landed with a group that didn't seem to understand that wipes are natural when you have a bunch of people that need to learn a duty. And it would seem our DPS was pretty low because we saw Heatwave happen
Yeah i always expect a couple of wipes in randoms raids. people need to have patience and explain things for people who dont watch guides over and over. learning is part of the process. Im sure you were doing okay. The next time you queue its usually alot different
I had the exact same experience. It started at the Garms in the first room. The whole raid just devolved into 20 minutes of emotional meltdowns. Why WoD does this to people?
It's good that you're making these. I followed outdated guides and ended up wasting time learning useless info about Crystal Tower 1 & 2. So I went into 3 without a guide and we wiped 3 times
I am going to try to cover as much as I can because updated guides are certainly important imo. And if I don't cover something you want to see, feel free to let me know and I will see what I can do.
I just wanted to drop off a thank you for this series. As a new player, I was intimidated by an older guide on how to run the Crystal Tower raids. I really appreciated how you made things easy to understand, in both what to look out for and what not to worry about.

This entire guide is great and really helped a lot, but I gotta give you bonus kudos for being literally the only guide i have found so far that 1) explains the chain mechanic (all of the mechanics, really, but especially this one) well and 2) actually shows where to tether the chains due to the cut down effects and small names. I grinded this raid a fair amount in order to get the final boss minion and no one ever explained the mechanic, even when there were new people. Everyone just says to "leave it to someone who knows what they're doing" which is insanely unhelpful. Thankfully, you do a great job at explaining things AND showing them!
great content. i am a new player playing tank and i dont dare to go blindly into dungeons, trials, raids etc. as most people expect me to know what i am doing and to lead them through. These guides are just too good for me to miss out on them. Thank you for your great work.
As a returning FF14 player I am watching your guide videos and am greatly appreciative. I also enjoy your commentary and you make it extra fun. Thank you for keeping these posted. You sir have a new Subscriber!
Extra tip for the first boss, the glowing pad rotates clockwise. It's not random. So sometimes you can stand on the one that will light up next instead of chasing it in a circle.
This is really helpful. I used your guide for the 2 previous Raids before this and we thought we should just "wing it" on this one. Bad idea. Problem was most of the people on the raid just wanted to run it silently, and after wiping a couple times because most people were like me and complaining about it I mentioned that maybe 1 or 2 of the 24 people who might know this mechanic maybe explain it. Filled with good intentions there were conflicting statements and most very short. Thanks for this guide. I am a bit miffed that while I understand the trials and dungeons in the MSQ I don't get why they force us to raid also. I guess a taste for it is fine but this was my first time in game I felt like I was in WoW.
I've actually been playing for several years and this is the first time ANY guide has explained Focus Target. Omfg. I had assumed it was the same as Target Lock and was very carefully avoiding it. Thank you. 😭
Although I died once on Ceberus (which was fine, near the end of the boss anyway. Had to happen once..) I got through this relatively effortlessly! These guides are great, and I actually love that the MSQ forces you to do this stuff. Because I'd probably skip it myself, or get to anxious because I don't want to screw up.

Glad I'm done with this one now, what a trainwreck of a raid. Wiped three times on the first boss, and I died so many times as a tank on the first one. The first time I died I admit it was my bad for not paying attention to doom, but the second time it was doom again immediately after I was ressed and I didn't even have time to get to the glowing platform. Third time again, I get ressed and immediately I get doom yet again and this time either I didn't have time to get to the glowing platform. Eventually a healer calls it out and I tell them why. As a sprout, I greatly appreciate the clarity and concise info you provided in this guide. Super nice when an old guide is still A tier 6+ months later xD
Okay i just wanted to say that im really happy with your guides! They are short enough to watch, clear and easily explained with very nice examples! I hope to see more raid guides from you :D !
Hey man, I got into FFXIV a couple of weeks back and your guides helped me thru the Crystal Towers series. Thank you so much for doing an updated guide on these, your channel definitely deserves more subs
For discordance on 2nd boss: The heads also cast discordance; when you kill a head, all discordance casts will be restarted. If you fail to kill a head within the time it takes the cast to finish, all casts will go off simultaneously and you will get the raidwide damage multiple times (however many heads the dragon still has + from dragon itself). For Anemos: Shockwave can also be surecasted, very useful for casters or melees. For Cerberus: As a tank (specifically, tank for group C who will do MTing for this one), pull him a bit to the north and face him sideways, so neither his front nor back aoes are on chunks of players. Keep that way also after his charge, keep in mind to keep the puddles AOE-free.
Thank you for this guide! I ended up getting lucky and never getting targeted myself on a lot of the things. It really helped on the eyeball boss because a lot of people got whacked but I was able to stay alive to revive and heal.
Separate comment that's unrelated to the video, because this guide is great: clear, concise, and easy to take notes on. But I do not know how people have fun with raids. It's not even the wipes that can happen with the variation of experience or the tons of mechanics (though I do tend to tunnel so that...sucks)...it's just the expectation of how it's supposed to go and the fact that people really don't care if you're new. And it feels like this is only a consistent pattern in raids. Hopefully there's no other mandatory ones, these are scary to me and kinda dampen my experience. The guides make it better, though. Edit: Wow. Almost a year since this comment. I'm like halfway through EW now. And the raids feel so easy-I'm doing the Crystal Tower raids on an alt tonight. Yet somehow I'm still super nervous for this one LMAO. The difficulty progression with crystal tower is like...faceroll, faceroll with the occasional brain cell required, and ✨️ STAY ON YOUR TOES, B*TCH! ✨️
I know I sound like a sensitive snowflake or w/e but that's because frankly, I am. I don't work well under pressure at all and these raids are the first time I've ever felt a ton of pressure to be the very best, and I'm still only working on ARR patch content (like, duh, since I'm here)! And I literally only play as DPS. I dunno. It's just a lot.
@@callmeobsequious I only played these raids because they're compulsory, but yeah, it just feels like you're letting down too many people. Definitely prefer the smaller parties where I can chill with friends and not feel too bad if there's a wipe.
Loving this videos because so many of the first ones I watched went in depth on all the mechanics but then when I ran the first raid I noticed that everyone else was just ignoring them. I hadn't realized that the recommended iLevel for groups was so much lower than what people even in basic quest gear were wearing. Also the comment on focus targeting was useful, I hadn't seen anyone else mention that at all.
Also want to add - when fighting Cloudy, she'll occasionally mark someone and hit them with one beam, and then a bunch more in quick succession. These aren't lethal on their own but can be a pain in the ass if you're standing around a bunch of other people, especially if they're new/low ilvl. So if you get marked, you might want to run away from anyone clustered around you (but not directly into her line of sight, otherwise she could hit you with the big particle beam, if you're not careful). If I recall correctly, this is the skill called "feint particle beam," but I could be wrong. Thank you so much for making this!
Thank you so much I’m actually new to ff14 and these three raids were my first ones and I was terrified but your videos reassured me and helped me breeze through them
thank you so much for uploading this! my bf and I were doing these quests this very weekend and were hoping you had it! you're doing the lord's work amEN
I just reached the crystal tower quest line that you have to do now to progress the MSQ (only recently learned this wasn't always required) and seeing these guides after watching once from when the content was relevant took so much stress away. I still like to try do everything as intended as far as possible just to get practice but knowing that if I make a minor mistake it's not going to cause the entire raid to wipe was such a relief to hear. I'll be checking the Coil guides next because I skipped them while levelling because I was too anxious.
Voice is amazing. Information given is clear and concise. You are my go to for everything 🖤 make all the guides you want because I will definitely watch and re watch and re watch and re watch lol thank you for doing what you do! This sprout appreciates it
Since a lot of new players have started XIV (me included, about 3 weeks ago), updated guides like these are rather helpful. I was unfortunate enough to not see this vid when starting it for the first time, but I did do some research. Even so, the sheer amount of new players who didn't know a thing starting this was rather frustrating, especially since they strangely tended to be either blue or green dps. I wish many would stop for a few minutes and read/watch content like this, just to avoid becoming confused and giving up.
honestly FF14 could do with adding raid mechanic info on the duty finder, even some basic stuff for the bosses would help a lot of new players who cant be bothered to look up additional info.
@@Wet-Milk Yes, I feel like researching info for main story line things shouldn't be necessary. Even with watching these very great video's in advance, I'm still a shit tank the first time through because I can't remember this all and I panic haha. Waiting for this one to start atm and I'm quite scared, but there's no way around it.
I would just like to thank you for making this updated guide! I was fortunate my party also knew what to do. You've been an amazing help and I hope you get more subscribers
I was lucky to get a really good group; everyone was very patient when we wiped on cerberus and just encouraged each other a lot overall. Even so, your guide did help a bunch so that I was able to be prepared ahead of time. Thank you!
Thanks for the video! Our B-elly team had only a few pople in the belly, but thankfully my sprout-ass sprung inside the cerberus (like 15 seconds too late) and busted some intestinal wall just in time!
Great guides thank you :) I was too scared to go into these raids but the guides helped me feel pretty well prepared, I still died on the first boss cause the glowing areas kept going dark before I got to them... but woulda died a lot more without the guide :D.
I love all your guides, thank you for making them. To be honest, when you said your group wiped in there i was worried but i tried it today and we cleared it all in one go, phew!
focus target is amazingly handy in this game and is not explained anywhere. I noticed a lot of people do not even know it exists, which is a shame just because of how helpful it is in so many situations lol
Hey bud just got through the Tower raids (as Main tank) thanks to your awesome Vids thanks you so much for taking the time to do these as a returning player doing this content for the first time they were invaluable
Dude thanks so much for this Crystal Tower both in story and raid mechanics are so cool but so much to take in and learn so than you for providing this guide!
I have over 3000 hours played in this game and I have the dorky mentor status symbol, but I honestly never knew that focus target was a thing. I guess I removed that from my controls right off the bat because I didn’t understand what it was when I started playing. To make up for this, I figure it out another great little trick instead of using focus target. You open the HUD menu and click on the target info status bar, then go into settings on that element and you can break it into three smaller components. These would be the bosses health, a separated attack cast bar, And buffs and D bus I believe for the third. What I did is made everything the smallest they could go except for the cast bar, I expanding that And put it lower on the screen so even if I’m looking at my skills I can still see what the boss is casting at all times. Or whatever else I am tab targeted onto at the time
best instructional informative videos on YT I have been thru too many to count that do weird shit in their video and they miss the point of information. Thank you good sir
Thank you for this. This one has me a bit scared and I hope to not let others down in the alliance. I am a Bard sprout and not too fast as I am much older in age just starting off learning FFXIV. I did make it through the first two areas, thanks to your videos, but this one seems a little more intense. I will probably watch it a few more times before attempting it as it is mandatory for the main MSQ to continue on. Hopefully no updates have taken place since the video was originally created a few years ago.
I watched your video like 5 times and this was still the must confusing time I've had thus far in this game. But i did nail the getting puked on and eating part. So I helped.
Thanks so much for your guides! Very helpful to have the important mechanics parsed from the ones no one cares about. All of the years old videos are very difficult to use as a new tank. One thing that might be helpful in future videos is notes on certain trash fights? Most are steam rollable but I ran into a couple that could use a mention here and there. Either way thanks again for putting the work in!
I love it when alliance raid gives us the hardest boss at the beginning. I just love the salt and drama that follows after we wipe 3 times and there are still a bunch of bosses to deal with later meanwhile the group already hates each other. World of Darkness and Dun Scaith did this best.
lol I always find it odd the first bosses are usually the most difficult. But its also nice knowing the worst is behind you after the first boss when you go into something new.

One of the best guides. Strait to the point and informative can't wait to see more
For discordance on 2nd boss: The heads also cast discordance; when you kill a head, all discordance casts will be restarted.
Thank you so much I’m actually new to ff14 and these three raids were my first ones and I was terrified but your videos reassured me and helped me breeze through them
thank you so much for uploading this! my bf and I were doing these quests this very weekend and were hoping you had it! you're doing the lord's work amEN
these guides got me and my friends through the crystal tower. thankyou. please keep doing these
I just reached the crystal tower quest line that you have to do now to progress the MSQ (only recently learned this wasn't always required) and seeing these guides after watching once from when the content was relevant took so much stress away.
This sprout appreciates it
My god I've been playing for half a year and everytime I get this raid I don understand what's going on, but thanks to you now I know, keep it up!
Thanks!
Just finished the crystal tower thanks to you!!! Love these guides they were super helpful to a new tank!!
I did not know about focus target! Thank you for an excellent guide
No problem. I am going to be putting out a lot of little tips like that. I have a ton of things written down that I am putting together right now.
I was lucky to get a really good group; everyone was very patient when we wiped on cerberus and just encouraged each other a lot overall. Even so, your guide did help a bunch so that I was able to be prepared ahead of time. Thank you!
thanks for this. as a new player and crystal tower is a pre-requisite to further progress with MSQ, this is indeed very helpful.
Thank you for these vids! They helped me run my first raid flawlessly.
Really grateful for these updated guides and yeah, first run we wiped on the first boss 5 times because no one was paying attention to the mechanics.
Wow 5 times, that's...a lot lol
Thanks for the video! Our B-elly team had only a few pople in the belly, but thankfully my sprout-ass sprung inside the cerberus (like 15 seconds too late) and busted some intestinal wall just in time!
This feels very intimidating tbh. But having the opportunity to see up to date video guides helps a lot, so thanks.
As a newbie sprout tank, *raids are giving me severe heart attacks*
plz help
me rn :(
@@Dalfrid001 still have that anxiety as a tank?
It is a big job. It is kinda like being a dad.
Big same right now
This was so helpful: all three crystal raid vids were! Thank you so much
Thank you for the focus target tip! Lesson learned!
focus target is amazingly handy in this game and is not explained anywhere. I noticed a lot of people do not even know it exists, which is a shame just because of how helpful it is in so many situations lol
You got me through the previous 2, I have faith in this guide as well
Hey bud just got through the Tower raids (as Main tank) thanks to your awesome Vids thanks you so much for taking the time to do these as a returning player doing this content for the first time they were invaluable
Dude thanks so much for this Crystal Tower both in story and raid mechanics are so cool but so much to take in and learn so than you for providing this guide!
Dear lord this is a lot of info. Tho I watched your vids on the previous two raids and went smoothly in one run each. Thank you and subbed!
Super useful guides for the Crystal Tower, thanks for making them!
SO helpful, I really appreciate these updated guides!
Super great guide, would love to see more old raids (ie the Heavensward Alliance Set) covered by you. Cheers!
Covering more of A Realm Reborn content and then moving into Heavensward.
very detailed and beginner friendly!! Good stuff man!!
Thanks for this series of guides in a modern view they have been very helpful 😀
today in 2021 I'm looking this guide and helps me ALOT! THANKS!
New player, and this series of videos was so useful thank you very much!
thank you so much for this series of guides!
Only saw one comment saying it, but for controller players, hit square and select focus target from the dropdown
Either way thanks again for putting the work in!
love just watching everyone in your team dying to the mechanics as if they're demonstrating just for us
lol one of the runs I did where I filmed I just sat there thinking...wow this is exactly why we need an updated guide haha
@@MicaDoesStuff haha i was thinking surely those are paid actors at 3 minutes xd. ty for your videos!
I’m a beginner doing raids for the first time and your videos helped me a lot
Thank you for the super mega helpful guides
Your guides are great, thank you so much!
the guides for these raids were amazing!! helped so much!
thanks for videos. They are very helpful for us new wave of players
thank you so much for the guide. it really helps new players! keep your passion burnin
I appreciate this a lot as a new player, thank you.
Thanks to this guide, doing the World of Darkness for the first time was smooth sailing. I actually kinda felt like I knew what I was doing.
Sprout here - this is super helpful. Thanks!
Brilliant, thanks for doing these in 2020!
these guides are saving my life dude thank you
