    Great job on the rocker panel and showing how to replace the rusted ends and mockup to replace it thumbs up 👍👍

    What always AMAZED ME, was the owner always wanted ORIGINAL METAL over reproduction metal. When they could never distinguish between the two, after the job was completed. Zoninks!

    A trick my dad taught me to get into those tight rusty channels - take a piece of metal cable, strip off an inch of the plastic cover, fray the end and chuck it in a drill at low speed. Watch your speed because it will flail and bang your knuckles.

    Barry I too enjoy grinding sanding the metal! Like driving it’s relaxing! I like the patch instead of replacing.

    Nice job grafting in that piece in there. That's a big difference in the width of rockers as well. Answers the question of why people have issues with them. I am liking that welder more and more. I really like that light inside. That was a really good idea.

    Really enjoy watching you save the original panels. With as much work as you put into saving the rockers you HAVE to save the quarters and driver's B pillar. I know it's a lot of work but if the owner is trying to keep as much of the original metal as possible it only makes sense. That would probably total 1/3 of the original car which would be pretty respectable considering how crunchy it was to start. Awesome job so far!

    Klutch makes a good welding cart. I have one that my Lincoln MIG and Miller Plasma sit on and even has a storage compartment for the consumables. Also has a spot for your gas.

    I watched a video the other day on all these rust converter paints etc. It was made by “repair geek” is his TH-cam name. The heading was something like if you use por15? He did a 8 month torture test of all these different rust prevention paints. You really should watch it. He also did one earlier on what’s the best rust prevention out there. I don’t want to spoil it for you but the Eastwood system ranked second worst out of 8 different methods. Rustoleum was one of the best and the cheapest. He did everything to them. Bent them smashed them pinched them etc left them outside for almost a year in direct elements rain snow uv light etc. It may be something you want to watch for future builds.

    Hey Barry. Bought a Lenox diamond wheel from Lowes instead of using the fiber wheels. Cleaner cuts...lasts a whole lot longer...Yeah $16 ea but lasts way longer on lot less mess.

    Man that looks good. I like your thoughts on grinding and sanding... If someone hates that part of the work, they probably need to find hobby. It seems like 95% of the work is in the prep and cleanup. The quality of the job depends on attention being paid to those things.

    When welding a thicker gauge metal (say for example the thickness of the inner rocker panel plate) to a lighter gauge metal (the outer rocker panel) when using a MIG welder could you estimate where the heat range and wire speed settings should be to reduce burn through and do the copper plug weld pliers help as well? My MIG welder is a Hobart Handler 135. Thanks Barry

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m not familiar with the Hobart and experience affects the welds as well. If I was using my Lincoln 140, wire speed is generally set to 2 of 10. Heat is set to “b” of 5 choices.

    Seeing how you use the crap out of your drill bits, do you ever sharpen them, or do you just buy new ones? If you sharpen your own bits, what do you use?

    • @JoDaddysGarage
      @JoDaddysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t resharpen them. I use high grade bits.
