I never thought smartphone apps were even close to being capable of accomplishing this. I assumed I was years and $$ away from semi-quality 3D scans. Thanks for showing us this!
You mentioned wearing a skull cap, You're correct - your hair will make the model dimensions incorrect as in reality your hair will compress down when wearing a helmet but if you printed that model, it would have a solid lump on the top of your head representing your hair, therefore it would be inaccurate. Good job on the video, I learned something - thank you!
I was experimenting with some desktop photogrammetry software and even though I am using good lighting, quality pictures, processing them for hours even, etc etc, and this simple phone app seems to do a better job... wow. I guess it's the face scan technology in the iphone x that makes a huge difference.
No android version so I might just have to borrow your head, I think our noggins are around the same size as I used the percentage you set your Magneto helmet to from your old video on sizing helmets for the one I printed and it was perfect. Hope ya don't mind XD
I downloaded Scandy long time ago but I stop using it because The results didn’t come like I want but now you give me a new hope to make a better detailed 3-D model face thanks brooo
Very useful video ,thank you very much !But I've tried this app,it just doesn't work the way as you did in the video,it seems like I have to move the phone around my head rather than just turning my head around in front of the phone ,I don't know if it's the latest app update or ios13,have you tested the latest version on ios 13?There is another 3d scan app called bellus 3d,have you ever used this one?If you do,which do you think is better ?
I downloaded this app because of this very well done video. The app dose take some getting used to but pays off when you get the hang of it. This has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for my printing. Thanks uncle Jessy.

@@UncleJessy Darn! But I guess it makes sense to make a fully working and stable version for one OS rather than have to divide their development over several version
how well does this scan an entire body by having someone hold the iphone or ipad to circle around a person to scan, can you achieve the same detail level you got off the closeup scan of your head? How long did it take for you to scan a higher res closeup of your head?
Thank you for this and your efforts into showing how you’ve gone about with your process of making your helmet. This was really giving me some ideas to what I could do for myself, especially using the 3-D scanning app! 🙏🥰 I’ve used mesh mixer before but very limited use, and I thought that you could use Sculpteo for correcting your models, have you tried that?
Very cool and thank you for the tutorial! I have to get a new phone :( as I only have an 8+. I might be borrowing my daughters iPad Pro until I get something updated...lol
Love how in Scandys offical videos they use an android and only have it on the app store currently... You can find old android apk files from 2018 that crash and don't start up though.
Not on the website but the apk is available on google..just search.. the problem is that it does not work on every android.. the phone should true depth and openCl etc..
I really thought he was gonna say get a ruler, stick it in one ear and out the other.. I need sleep. Great tutorial. I'll have to find an android equivalent
Where is the android version please? There seems to be a lot of interest, but although the website says there is an android app, it doesn't seem to be available.
Lets suppose you place the camera in front of a tv in a movie, when the actor move his head, will be possible to create a scam of the actor's face? Or it will see the flat tv screen?🤔
I'll 3D print this as a severed head for Halloween The severed head will spook away some children, but after people see Jessy's face The whole street will be empty.
Well the TrueDepth camera is basically a shrunken down Kinect. Apple bought primesense which created the technology used in the 360 Kinect. The Xbox one Kinect uses time of flight instead of structured light as used in 360 and TrueDepth.
Uncle Jessy i cut my own hair too which means the front and sides look good and the back is crooked but thats the person standing behind me in lines problem not mine

You should drop both files into fusion 360 and use the section analysis tool so you can really see through the mesh.
Hahaha " Scan your body part...Let's hope it's your head ;) "
Now you can do the Uncle Jessy mask for your shelf of Avengers.
Ohhh damn. I could make a mask outta this! 🤞I can figure that out

You might get better results with EM3D app! Very similar but much more accurate on the mesh.
dude this is amazing! The possibilities for mask making. Now I have to befriend someone with a new phone haha
Pretty wild right? I stole my wife’s to play around with it originally
Have had the app for a while but wasn’t using it correctly, thanks for this!!
Yeah the instructions are a bit confusing. I’m sure I’m using some of it wrong still but hopefully a step in the right direction
Thanks for this video. Changes everything.
brilliant way to shorten scaling time
Yeah working on a follow up for another project using the app to scan another part of my body for some armor
Great explanation and very helpful! really appreciate you taking the time to give the details. Simply great!!!! many thanks!!!!
3D printing yourself would still be awesome, if only once, just to see how well it worked. Interested to see the print.
Printing my head now. Full body.... feel like I’d need a legit scanner for that
hey Jessy, great video. Im pretty impressed with the scan quality on a head. How does it go with scanning just normal objects?
Funny enough I haven’t tried anything other than my head and my kids heads. Will try scanning some other random things and post online.
@@UncleJessy you'd think it would work a lot better since its a static object, look forward to your results!
i have a i phn 12 reg can i use it for scanning
Awesome video. You definitely need to do a "hairy Jesse" Ala the "Hairy lion" for your hair and beard - that would be fun to see.
Bwahahahahahahaha now that would be funny
Thanks for sharing this. I downloaded the app and it's perfect for what I needed.

Nice video and a great use of 3d scanning. To bad the app only supports Apple devices, it would be fun to test it on my android phone :(
Apparently they did have an android supported version last year but stopped working on it to focus on the iPhone X
@@UncleJessy Darn! But I guess it makes sense to make a fully working and stable version for one OS rather than have to divide their development over several version
5:58 without knowing anything else, i would guess the power button resets the camera in case the app freezes, or something like that.
Does it work on iPhone XR?
This would be a great tool for creating replicas, :)

Is there any chance of you showing the same helmet technique in cura or prusa slicer please?

ik no one will probably answer but how did he put the face scan on the headscan?
The file that I am getting from scandy pro has my head incredibly tiny. I am at a loss as to what to do to fix this.
your scan looked eerily like Max Payne from circa 2001. Not bad for a phone cam and a Lincoln...
Going to make my best squinted Max Payne look and do some bullet time jumping

Just to let you know, Jessie, the cutout lettering in your calipers weakens the model a lot. Mine snapped.

At 21:00 you start talking about scaling. You edited the Z scale when talking about your ear-ear length, wouldn't that be the X axis scale?
looking at 23:00 looks like the X has that 170 scaling. so maybe it's just my misunderstanding.

How do you export on windows
Can you scan an radio control truck body
