DannoCrutch on sabers and cutlasses the handles are just long enough to fit the hand. The Bowie is a modified Saber/Cutlass. Having a long blade with a longer handle creates a lot of leverage and can be possibly disarmed. Heavier slashing swords have longer handles like the long sword were you need the leverage to swing the blade to create the power you need.
I see your point. Certainly seems relevant. I've always thought that a knife is a closer quarters weapon, and that in the case of a bowie, the longer handle could be utilized to effectively hook the opponent's arm etc. I'm admittedly no expert, but now I'd love to see something showing the pros and cons of both long and short.
DannoCrutch having a shorter handle on a Bowie would have the same effect long blade short handle. When parrying another weapon the potential of disarm is enhanced. Since your grip would be limited. Also on the thrust
Jules Thurongi in theory you can with a proper fighting guard. The choil seems a bit long on this Bowie but still may work. Having a proper understanding of Bowie work and training is the only way to know. Have to train to understand if something in "theory" works or not.
Not to doubt you john but from my research Jim Bowies knife was lost at the Alamo so how does your friend have a copy of the original again not trying to doubt you in any way love your work just more trying to get your insight and gain some more knowledge
I believe there are 3 knives claiming to be the knife he carried at the Alamo (by that time there were thousands of "Bowie Knives" being produced by different makers - everyone wanted "A knife like Bowie's"). Personally, I'd have thought he'd have taken the original one for morale purposes. And Davy Crocket's comment in his last letter to his wife would seem to bear that out. As for what happened to it, I suspect it got turned to slag on the mass funeral pyre they threw him on. But then again, who knows, lol
$5,000.00 is very pricy. I would rather get a custom made 1911 45acp pistol. And for $5k you can get one heck of a custom made gun. Great knife tho, I would pay up to $300 for it. For the asking price I would expect a crucible steel Viking +ULBERT+ , it's spelled wrong I'm sure so apologies.
Gorgeous blade, that meteorite is incredible looking!
A beautiful blade😎🤟Rock On John
I want one of these soooooo badly 🙏🏻
Meteorites generally don't make good steel as they're mostly nickel.
a real beauty John !
Nice to see a new video. Nate is a lucky guy. Nice knife.
Geebus, that is an epic blade. Totally agree on the long handle for a fighter.

*You wore pants!*
It's been a while, what happened to rocket bombshell?
By the sound of it, she got a white collar job in marketing.
Good for her.
tempo529 I agree :)
I will watch it thank you very much
ITS NAME SHOULD BE HOLY SHIT LOL
liked the blade look. are you carrying a huge folder on your left side?
Does knife have to be 5 g,s to work no does a knife have to be expencive to stab and slash and slice no but it all depends on what you want
nameless268 5g's is a lot for his work. There are better blades on the market that are a third less from more reputable smiths. Bagwell comes to mind
You could (in theory) block tomahawks with that guard!

I'd love to spread some butter on my toast with that thing lol.
Sweet!!!! I'll weight it and post it here alright?

zednotzee7 It’s thought that he may have had as many as fourteen different knives in his lifetime.

How about full length Elk hide/leather apron or gods forbid full length skirt in the same, just to appease your subscribers/fans.
