    @2:20 I think you confused the Grind setting with the Shade setting. The Grind setting disables the autodarkening so the helmet can be used as a safety shield when grinding metal.

    And now I know how they work!
    It always puzzled me...

    Question what is best for 8hrs long daily welding without sunlight? Battery or solar?

    • @LaceyFamilyFarm
      @LaceyFamilyFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably go with solar for that. Simply so you don’t have to change out a battery all the time. Keep in mind the ‘solar’ helmets aren’t necessarily solar, they just use photovoltaic cells to turn the lens darker when welding, and no sunlight is needed.

  • @MikeVieira
    @MikeVieira 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks! So question....the solar panel...does it need to be stored in an area to get sun or can it be stored in a dark place but the arc from welding charges it? I never even thought about that..

    • @LaceyFamilyFarm
      @LaceyFamilyFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That’s a great question! No, it does not need to be stored in the sun. It simply uses the light from the arc to power the shutter. Thank you for watching!

      @@LaceyFamilyFarm Ah! Great! Thanks for the reply! Seems that's the way to go. Why would anyone choose battery powered over the solar power?

    • @venugopalbk4144
      @venugopalbk4144 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you use the helmet after a long time, in the mean time if battery get the battery gets exhausted, needs to be kept in sunlight, before welding first time on the day

      @@LaceyFamilyFarm so that solar radiation power from the welding rod is fast enough to dim the helmet faster then you look at weld?

  • @sptrader6316
    @sptrader6316 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What powers the LCD viewer was confusing for some users, including me. What I've learned is that the solar cells get charged by the light from the welder flash and use that power to darken the viewing lens. But what about the time it takes to charge the solar cells ?(fraction of a second), From what I've read, the batteries get triggered by the light sensors first, to immediately darken the lens (to protect your eyes), then, when the solar cells receive enough light from the welder flash, the solar cells take over and supply the power for the viewer. Think about it, why would we need batteries, if the solar cells were supplying all of the power to darken the lens ?

    Nice, except how many milliseconds does the flash enter the eyes until the solid state electronics darken? Wouldn't even a quarter millisecond damage the eyes? Yes, the last time I welded something, was just stick and the "eclipse lens" 😂

    • @LaceyFamilyFarm
      @LaceyFamilyFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question. I don’t know the answer honestly. All I could tell you is it’s super fast, it’s almost instantaneous. Enough so that it’s not damaging to the eyes.

    Pretty pointless video unless you are 6 year old starting to weld , It would be good Knowledge to know that your eyes are protected by liquid crystals that bend the light. You can control the amount of light and several other features depending on the type of lens you have even without the auto darkening feature turned on your eyes are protected with a layer of infrared/ultraviolet filter . Also layers of metallic and several other layers of technology that deletes harm to your eyes. Kind of a let down to the great minds of this invention with this explanation ..Calculator lines really?
