Racking :) I've just found your page as a happy accident when looking for the essential items needed as a carpenter. I've watched through about 5 of your videos today and i'm learning so much from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the internet :) Hitting the subscribe button
It's not just practical when a customer is near your van it makes you look very professional and very organised just the same as your appearance look professional and your works the same. 👍
Racking, hi Lewis Great little racking system and straight forward, I have done a whole false floor of the bottom of my van so I can lay sheets and doors flat and put my long straight edges in between the joists , but definitely restrict getting any sort of tone bag on top as it’s above the wheel arch level , I love the idea of drilling holes for the tubes so you keep them upright mine are in are in a cubbyhole laid in there so it’s a nightmare to see what is what definitely going to do your Method for the tubes, great idea and video mate 👌🏼👍🏻 !!
Racking: you kept it simple and functional which I guess makes it easier to adapt as time goes on. It that a short wheel base van, I noticed you showed the image of the 8x4s on the diagonal. Thanks for the video mate.
Cheers Tom, yes mate I like to keep it clean and tidy, makes life easier. Yes you can get 8x4 sheets in a short wheel base, I can get about 6 sheets of 18mm mdf with my current setup
Nice job. I moved away from the side racking in my swb low height trafic and instead created a sub floor above the wheel arch boxing strategically supported by a 2x1 frame. I've got one big drawer from the side door that goes all the way to the other side of the van, it's pretty huge. I did away with all my cases and systainers and all my battery power tools and 3 routers fit in their perfectly. In the rear door I made two drawers using the full width, they go all the way back to the side of the side door drawer, so again, they are huge. I put all other things in them, loads of space and even mastic tubes can fit standing up right. This leaves me effectively an empty floor for my tool bags and stands etc. I further went on to create partitions about a foot high just to keep things separate and stop them flying around and to give the tools protection if I'm carrying doors or sheets over the top of them. , I'm really happy with it and I've got no dead space. I can find things easily and more importantly put them back afterwards easily. Another bonus with the side drawer especially, is that I've got secondary security locks fitted and for a thief the only option would be to peel the top of the side door to gain access, they couldn't open the power tool drawer if they wanted to, firstly there's no space to slide it out, well maybe 9 inches, but also it's all friction fit, no drawer runners, it takes some leaning back to open it normally but would be impossible from above.
Hi mate, I have a Trafic SWB and was hoping if you mind sharing photos of your setup please. I’m looking at doing something similar to what you have. Thanks Lee
Racking, love seeing how other chippies rack out there vans. Carpet on the shelves is a nice touch, really cuts down on rattle and if you point the carpet pile towards the van exterior it stops stuff sliding of the shelves as well.
Yeah I’ve been thinking about carpeting the base, I’m not sure yet, I normally go in all gun blazing but with this one I’m trying to think things through a little more
Good demo of how to fit out a van for the tools you use. I did get all the way through and thought the result was a good one. Of course, the difficulty is that our workflow tends to change over time, as do our tools. Having loads of little storage areas - as I have in the workshop - can be a problem. I, too, have become rather cluttered in that department, and have to have a periodic clear out, or I just end up spending ages looking for things.
Racking. Great video Lewis as usual. I done my van in lockdown with bits I had laying around. I wish I could start again, but as you know, it's a nightmare taking everything back out again .
Recently I helped my brother do his van, We built a slightly raised floor so full sheets could be stored without impeding access to the tool rack. Works surprisingly well. Fits around 10 sheets of 12.5mil plasterboard.
I’m on my second van set and made a slight angle to my shelves…keeps things put. And a small lip stiffens and lets sheetgoods be clamped to the rack face vertically when floor space is needed. Plywood on the ceiling let’s long items have safe storage (tracks and poles)
Racking . Great job mate maby put a small lip on front edge of shelves stop the boxes sliding out when goin round roundabouts I found this out the hard way 😂
racking good job ,try to make use of you doors aswell if you can ie foam gun silocone gun ,down pipe bracket and strecher plate for foam gun gutter brackets fof silocone gun and tool belts coat etc. scerw first aid kit eye wash to doors aswel,l round tub off wet wipes fits perfictaly inti a soil pipe bracket .just a few suggestions best wishes from a fellow joiner
Racking, very interesting this, mine is messy and I hate working like that. I quite like how you sorted level and guide rail storage. Just wondering why you didn't go for lwb when you got a new van, would lwb not suit you better for this kind of work?
Yes the lwb was an option but ultimately I don’t really need it, this is the same van as I had before and it work fine for my needs so I stuck with it.
I know it's such a small thing, but why not have one saw blade facing down and the other facing up so they don't get bent or put any strain in the handles
To be honest mate theses saws are pretty robust, I’ve been doing it this way for years and never had an issue with the saws bending ect. They just spring right back
Good racking but personally I wouldn't have used glue as inevitably you'll be adjusting things in the next few months. I'd also have angled the shelves to stop items falling out when going round corners.
I didn’t use to glue racking but found that after a while it would start to come apart with all the movement of the van. Thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciate it
Put some carpet down on the floor as it deadens the noise in the back when your driving and it helps to protect something you've manufactured when delivering. Racking
Nice rack-ing !! Lol, Glad I didn't buy that bungalow, the noise from the speed of those motorbikes going past the house would drive me potty !!! haaha !
Racking. Makes a huge difference to productivity when you can get at exactly what you need straight away, really need to sort mine out now!
It really dose mark, not only that but means I can actually get materials in there now rather then just having tools all over the floor
Makes it easy to steal too. The long pull out drawers are the best approach with the added security they give
@@jcoul1sc I know, had mine cleaned out three times. Horrible.
Racking. Just bought a new van and you've given me inspiration mate 👍
That’s awesome mate ! Let me know how you get on !
Great job! I'm not doing anything for a van, but it's nice to see how I could do racking for my tool shed
It’s noice to know my videos are interesting enough to watch even if you’re not planning on doing the project ! 🍻

Cracking job mate , did my van this weekend as I was fed up trying to find things
I feel you Lee, it’s a right pain isn’t it mate 🍻
@@LTWCarpentry going to do the same as you mate , top job 👍
Racking. You made that look easy. Thanks
Thank you for your comment buddy 🍻
Racking, I have the same van and have been struggling on how to rack it, thankyou for the inspiration 😁
That’s awesome buddy, let me know how you get on buddy 🍻
Racking great vid - liked the technique with the jig saw

Racking, nice job mate. You can even take the rollers off your stand. And stand it up vertically. Gives you even more room. Makes a massive difference
Yes I have done this in the past, this works fine for now but I may change it
The racking looks tidy , great job .👍
Cheers Chris 🍻
Racking. Great use of space Lewis I always love a look in the back of a tradesman's van !! Great Build and great video
Nice one Steve ! Much appreciated mate Lewis
Racking. Great layout for carpenters van. Look at trade tidy the sell apaper towel holder that your missing or first aid kit shelf
Nice one Paul, I have an idea for paper towel holder, as for the first aid kit that lives under the passenger seat in the front
Super nice racking. Well done.

Yes I find the same, I end up just shoving stuff in compartments to get them out the way and end up massively cluttered !
Top tier racking, that is mate
Cheers Leo 🍻
Racking. Great video Lewis as usual. I done my van in lockdown with bits I had laying around. I wish I could start again, but as you know, it's a nightmare taking everything back out again .
Yes mate it’s all well and good thinking “I’ll do it again@ but in reality it’s much harder then that
Racking - watched to the end. Good video! Subbed
Cheers buddy, glad to have you onboard 🍻
Racking, something very satisfying doing your racking in the van, I’ve redone mine 3 times in a year and a half and I’m planning on a 4th.
Ohh wow ! That’s dedication there !
@@LTWCarpentry dedication or OCD one of them lol, problem arises when you get a new tool, it then needs its own space 😂
A cracking van racking video. Loads of ideas for when I finally get round to mine thanks 👍🏻

Yes a raised bed can work very well in a van, I stoped doing it as I can insulation a lot of the time and you can fit much in with a raised bed
Racking, great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Racking. Nice job mate 👍
Cheers buddy, much appreciated 🍻
Racking, tidy job mate. Be tackling mine soon when I get some dry weather. So I can actually work outside.
Cheers Mike ! Keep me updated with how yours comes along mate 🍻
Racking! Tidy work as usual mate, always good to get the van in some form of order!
Cheers buddy ! I’m so much more efficient when I can find stuff ! And I can get materials in there now !
Def need a van tour mate. Racking
Will do buddy 🍻
Really good racking Lewis. It’s so good when you can find everything 👏🏼👍🏼
Thanks as always Mandy ! I can’t stand a messy van ! Really slows down production
Racking: great job and a good use of space, would put small bungee straps across all the boxes to hold them place 👍
I did think I would have to but to be honest they have been fine
Nice bit of racking Lewis, love the upside down jig saw skill👊
Cheers hoggy ! I find jigsaws much easier to control this way round
when you used the jigsaw you did it underneith, is that how its meant to be done?
Its easier to follow the line underneath and it gives a cleaner cut on the surfice 🍻👍
Nice racking!
Thanks! 🍻

so glad
I subbed 18-24 months
Like I said glad I did, ur content and presentation style is brill
Cheers buddy ! I really appreciated that ! And I’m also really glad you subbed ! Mean a lot ! 🍻
Make sure to install all anti-theft measures you can find if you are leaving all of this in there overnight. Nice work, looks much more professional.

Does weight distribution matter when putting up shelves?
I have done this in many a van and I know many others the have the same and it’s never been an issue buddy
Racking. Nicely done buddy, what length screws did you use to fix to the plywood on the van sides?
Cheers Dave, I used 30mm screws for the most part
@@LTWCarpentry thanks buddy
