Kobayashi: We learned more about what goes behind the scenes in that episode, things that we didn't see in the main anime. And we see them conversing too, that's a really good addition to the main anime. Suzuki: Definitely. Especially for people who were interested. Kobayashi: Suzuki-san, you actually only learned about them being referred to as "sisters" after recordings. Suzuki: Ah that's right. After her first reappearance. I heard about the "sisters" thing. Kobayashi: Also, something interesting, that because they're like "sisters", even Meili's way of talking is close to Elsa's. Suzuki: Yes, like the endings of her sentences, the prolongations, reminds you of Elsa. Maybe she likes her so she tries and imitate her. Kobayashi: Someone should have told me about this before! Suzuki: From their everyday conversation we saw in some of the break times, you get to see how they're like family, and how they trust each other. I myself felt like it strengthened my connection to their relationship. Kobayashi: In contrast to their interaction in the main anime, you only see the them in the professional sense. Like, they're in the middle of the job. ... There's also an extra booklet with the BD release, the first volume. That one apparently talks about their first meeting. I think that is interesting to read. Kobayashi: Meili is an enemy, but even among enemies in the past, sometimes an unexpected thing would happen. So we don't really know how this will go, will we see them defeated, or maybe some other development will happen? We really don't know. Subaru has a timid heart when it comes to this kind of thing after all. Suzuki: Subaru really is kind in that regards. Like "she's a kid, so maybe.." something like this. I thought, wow he's really kind. Kobayashi: Well, he's also a high schooler too in his current age, so maybe he feels something there. Matsuoka Yoshitsugu (Geuse): This is VA of delicious Geuse (Juice), Matsuoka Yoshitsugu. Takahashi: Delicious! The first half had Kobayashi-san (Subaru) and Suzuki-san (Meili). For this second half it'll be me and Matsuoka-san. Yoshitsugu-san, this is the first time you're joining the after-talk. Matsuoka: That's right. Takahashi: This is right after recording Geuse's lines Yoshitsugu-san. Matsuoka: Yes, and it's my final time doing it. Takahashi: **cute sad noises**. So when you were doing Betelgeuse in season 1 did you know about Geuse? Matsuoka: In season 1, I actually learned about Geuse after it (after the recordings were done). I was looking at Sensei's web novel, and I found out about it then. If I recall correctly it was that episode (episode 17). It was about after that episode aired. It was a close call, because I think had I known about Geuse when I recorded those lines, I might have been affected by it somehow. So I ended up learning about it after. When I did, I was like.. What are you doing to her, she's like your daughter... "How beautifully will you cry when you see the half-devil... etc". Takahashi: In the last scene when Betelgeuse died, when Subaru said "It's the end". Matsuoka: In my mind, Betelgeuse at that time and state, on the verge of death, all of his memories and emotions might have been a jumbled mess. So it came out in that way. That last episode was really heartrending. And for Betelgeuse himself, at that last moment, he probably didn't remember still, but I felt as if his heart remembered something. Takahashi: Also, Betelgeuse's words in season 1 were really put together well, it was like all his ideals put into words. When you see Geuse now though you can't help but see how it makes sense now. Matsuoka: As a result of him using the witch factor, yes, he had no other choice. Even though there was no compatibility, he had to use it by forcing it upon himself. Honestly, if ReZero continued, I thought I would be able to play Geuse. But really to reach this day and actually do it, your heart feels about to break.. Takahashi: The most sad scene is really the part where he had to use the witch factor.. Matsuoka: Use it, and then fight while enduring it.. And then.. Takahashi: Pandora's mysterious powers too.. Matsuoka: It was way too absurd. You can't do anything against a witch's words, it felt. In hindsight, it's really someone who you can't defeat no matter what. But still for Geuse he felt like he has to do something, he had such strong feelings. But even after all these feelings and putting them into action, he ends up killing the most precious person... Of course he'd break... Takahashi: He tried enduring until the very end, even though he wasn't compatible. And after all this, today we saw the happiness that could have been.. Matsuoka: A future that could have been. Takahashi: How was it, this happy filled scene. Matsuoka: Even when I know it's just an IF scene, I still wished that this was the actual future. But after all, it's just a fabrication. Actually when I was recording this, I was told how this should feel like an everyday picnic scene, a harmonious interaction between the 3.. Takahashi: A natural everyday occurrence. Matsuoka: Nonetheless, even if it's the ideal world that Emilia wished for, she didn't want lie to herself. Even the direction of the scene, it was from the perspective of Emilia imagining this kind ideal world. Like how Geuse laughed loudly too. Takahashi: Ah. So even with how Geuse behaved. Matsuoka: When I was told to "laugh loudly", I felt like I wanted to go all out (Betelgeuse style). Takahashi: That Betelgeuse laugh! Matsuoka: In season 1, I actually learned about Geuse after it (after the recordings were done). I was looking at Sensei's web novel, and I found out about it then. If I recall correctly it was that episode (episode 17). It was about after that episode aired.
It was a close call, because I think had I known about Geuse when I recorded those lines, I might have been affected by it somehow. So I ended up learning about it after. When I did, I was like.. What are you doing to her, she's like your daughter... "How beautifully will you cry when you see the half-devil... etc".
Takahashi: In the last scene when Betelgeuse died, when Subaru said "It's the end".
Matsuoka: In my mind, Betelgeuse at that time and state, on the verge of death, all of his memories and emotions might have been a jumbled mess. So it came out in that way.
That last episode was really heartrending.
And for Betelgeuse himself, at that last moment, he probably didn't remember still, but I felt as if his heart remembered something.
Takahashi: Also, Betelgeuse's words in season 1 were really put together well, it was like all his ideals put into words. When you see Geuse now though you can't help but see how it makes sense now.
