Lifelong race attendee at IMS for all types of racing. Appreciate these episodes and your insights. Thank you and keep them coming. You are one of the best treasures of IMS.
I give you credit Doug! As a former photographer out at IMS for 20 years... Climbing up and down into those places (especially over turn one) is not easy -- especially in a suit!
That was great Doug! I drove out from Boston three years in a row for the 500 - first time in 2014 when I got to chat with you at the base of the pagoda the morning of the race - thanks for being so cool! Great memories
As someone other than a pro photographer, I am now starting to learn why folks say "enough, Mr. Doug"; I sub to all IMS social stuff, but I'm at the point where I'm inclined to agree with these 'other folks'. This track has developed years of mystique on its own; best to admit the same so that you can offer an inner look no one else can have. If you agree with me on that, then let it be a fantastic offer - preferably, one that no one else can duplicate; and since we're just taking deep dives on IMS itself, something that simply will NEVER be duplicated - then let the host be willing to admit the same in a manner we can see & feel in video. Like a Lucas film. Anything that crosses over... beyond the film to say (perhaps) the exact same words Mr. B does... but it's more real or more relevant to the audience. Man. Representing THAT track in THIS day & age of motorsports... what a nearly God-given winning lottery ticket THAT is. CFOs Unite! (and instead of picking one of us to carry the torch, let's consider what CMO suggests lol).
Wonderful, Doug. I love these. Thank you! I wonder if you could do a future one to show us where the turn announcers sit for the radio broadcast? And how have the places changed over the years.
Should show the long shot from 4 to 1 of the cars going into the corner more. It's the best angle the track has to show their speed as they flick left for the turn and dart across the screen
I hope I'm not being nosy, but I was wondering if Doug Boles is any relation to Sherman Boles who was the mayor of Newcastle, Indiana? Maybe someone will know. My mom went to school with Mayor Boles.
Doug, I just attended my 42nd Indy 500, we are from Northern INDIANA, I set in northwest vista section 2, we always listen to the race broadcast on scanner with headsets and I would like to say this years broadcast was the worst ever, please advise how we can get better race coverage while at the race moving forward. Thanks Kevin
@@healthyone100 its actually not in that situation. The course is barely played now. Penske knows he would make more if it were affordable. He does not care. He wants it to be exclusive. Racing is often not about the money. It is often about prestige and a pp measuring contest.
Wish these videos were longer. Could go all night learning about that place.
Doug....you are iconic....passion beyond the job....we appreciate you sir!
Can I suggest a episode on the flower boxes for speed cameras on the exit of 4, who suggested them, why and when did they start?
True that! They have been running that camera angle since the 1980s at least
Attended 1999-2019. My happy place
Cool video, and yes those flowers are an iconic shot lol! The Speedway is full of interesting 'hidden spots, these videos are great.

Great job Doug! Nice to see all aspects of the track!
Love all the behind the scenes, and all the places we cant see as regular spectators
I'd give anything to go stand next to the flower pot coming out of 4. So Iconic.
I have been blessed, I worked turn four camera spotter in the 90s and then from one of those baskets in the 20teens. My favorite is turn 3 though!

We need more!
Good inside info. Thx Doug
Great series
Thanks Doug.

There is a video on here that shows where they sit!
Love your purple kicks 🤣
Please don’t stop making these videos.

Not sure about that but Doug's Dad was a Judge in Hendricks County.
@@michaelhogg324 Thanks! My mom went to high school in Albany, Kentucky with Mayor Boles.
I'd pay for a tour of these spots
I’m there right now

Raising the price of the golf course was criminal
its always about the money even at Indy!

Cool
iconic is becoming an overused word... each description of iconic becoming less & less iconic with each blurting of the word...
