I remember in Cav's HighRoad days my late mother - who knew nothing about cycling - used to support "the fella who always wins". Before every sprint finish, for the last 3-4 km I used to put my finger on him on the TV screen and she would watch in amazement as he worked his way through the peloton until winning yet again, right on the line. Today reminded me of that. He has given some value for money as a sprinter, that's for sure. Well done, Cav, from West Cork, Ireland.

Really great to see Geraint Thomas lead out Cavendish. Superb finish...for once everything went right for Cav. Sport never ceases to throw up great stories and this is one of them. Fingers crossed for The Tour. On another note I was looking at the skyline of Rome and it's fantastic to see it has not been ruined unlike London which is unrecognisable from even 50 years ago. Pity.
For once everything went right? Given he’s won 54 sprint stages I’d suggest it’s gone ‘right’ for him 54 times. He’s not won by accident on all those occasions 🤔
…But whilst the sky line in Rome is great on the ground it is a traffic nightmare . The car still rules, no bike facilities to speak of so not really a cycling city

On my group ride yesterday some riders were saying how Cav is old and washed up and can never win without a lead out train. I laughed at them and responded he doesn't need a lead out train. He may not be the best in the world at the moment but the GOAT just needs to be in positioned to contest and he can still win. So glad he can shut up the doubters. I can't root against this guy

It is so cool to watch guys like Cavendish or Sagan win because they can do it without a team. They read the group and get into position. Cavendish was following the biggest guy in the last kilo (effectively riding caboose on the train).Its nice to see him go out on a win, right?
What a Champion, you could see how emotional he was about the help he got from his old friends. Absolute respect for the race and rewarded for hanging in there for 3 weeks of a tough Tour.
That pain was for giving away the opportunity to win in Rome, for the sake of a "gift" to someone who didn't deserve it based on his behavior two days earlier.

Then after composing himself Horner says Cav can get back on his bike and return to the race That was a few days ago Horner said this....next sprint stage Cav wins, and wins easily
