I haven't painted in about 25 years. I've been afrauid to try again because of all the new products. This gives me confidence that there are still products around that I'll be able to work with. THANKS!
Karen Gammon actually the products have gotten much easier to work with than they ever were in our days brother, get a gun out and start spraying something and you’ll wish you never waited so long. I was in your shoes, painted in a Chevrolet body shop right out of high school then moved into restoration painting and then joined the military and was away from it for 20 years but took the plunge and it was the easiest painting and best I’ve ever done. Find someone at the paint store you can become friends with and they will walk you thru all the compatibility issues to watch out for and they will lead you down the right road. See if they have some mistint paint you an buy cheap to practice with so your not screwing up $400 worth of paint. Good luck and have fun!!!!!
Thanks for the video. I just got my DeVilbiss paint and touch-up guns yesterday. On my way to Sherwin Williams to pick up a good quality automotive paint to do the instrument panel in my airplane. The painter around here was ridiculous with what he wanted to charge... I can buy all the guns, paint, sanding supplies, thinners, ect... for cheaper than his price and still have everything to use when it's time to paint accent stripes on my plane.
Awesome job. I painted for a few years and its nice to see someone still keeping it simple. Very nice work. Be careful with the respirator. Dont end up with problems breathing. Great explanation of the process. Again great job.
Im an auto body collision student so still learning. I appreciate this video, remind me of basics and im thinking of single staging my car and never sprayed ss. So thanks good video!
bud voss most of the single stage i shoot is similar to shooting clear, 10-20 min between coats depending on temperature, reducer, and how quickly its designed to flash. Typically once it gets sticky on the masking its ready for the next coat. if its still "wet" not sticky, keep waiting.
This was very helpful to me as I am about to go and spray a single stage on the front clip of my Silverado tonight. Never have done this before. Basics like how to use the mixing cup scale was appreciated. Will try to spray out the rest of the truck later, but my heated space is very cramped.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have shot single stage paint enamel in the past but needed a refresher for setting up the gun and the 3 adjusters.
Single stage means the base coat and clear coat are all in one. It has nothing to do with harder or reducer being included and is need in both single and two stage applications. A two stage would be base coat clear coat. I hope this clarifies things for you.
very helpful. Purchased a used s-10 blazer for me and my 11 year old son to build together for a little truck rod. We plan on doing everything we can ourselves. This will be applied to our project.
+CBiskitone Thanks for watching and i hope this video was able to help you out. That's awesome that you and your son are building a truck together. I've always liked the blazers. look me up on Facebook I would love to see how the truck turns out.
I'm considering painting my own car and I have been debating on which system to use, basecoat clear coat system or single stage. Single stage looks very good and seems a little more simpler to paint since all the ingredients are mixed in together. TY for this video sir
The Dynamic Duo Derrick Culpepper I'm no pro painter. I've done base clear and single stage. I always have better luck with single stage. The cool part to me is when I'm wet sanding and buffing some times I burn through the paint but with single stage you just put more on and ur done. I painted my old boat with single stage urethane and after a wet sand and polish looked like glass.
Definitely do base clear. Get a quality "medium solids" urethane clear. Put 5-6 wet coats. Start on the areas that are easy to get light or miss. Grill, window edges on doors etc. After 3 coats, check for orange peel. If it's really bad, reduce your next pot 10-20% and spray 4 more coats. Or you can let it set up for 24 hours and cut it with 400 then 1000. Spray 4 or 5 more with reducer as mentioned. Base coat should be light tac coat. The 2 medium wet coats. Always make sure your spray booth is as clean as possible, like go overkill. I use thin painters plastic by 3m because it creates static when pulled apart. Which makes the dust cling. Then I'll spray most of the areas with a wuick mist coat of cheap urethane or even some old rustolem etc to encapsulate the dust. Good luck. Have good lighting btw!
I would also strongly zuggesr basecoat top coat. This single stage was sprayed much like a basecoat top coat..giving you that satin finish. I've painted antibodies for about 13 years now and typically with a single stage you'll mill out in one coat and use accelerator for your hang. Overall you will a very high gloss and waterfall like finish with a single stage if you hit your 7s.
I've always like stage 1 paint jobs On old car's it last longer when left outside Yes it fades. But at least you can buff it out. Clear coats seem to go bad after 2-3 years On my 1971 chevy truck It has a one stage The paint was like you don't want a clear coat. I told him The truck is just a truck I don't have it for just the paint Job. I like things that last 5-15 years Yes yellows and reds look faded But with the polishers now you can bring it back to life. Just make sure you have the painter Add a few extra coats
I've never painted anything that took more than a can of spray paint. I'm watching the videos to find out what type of paint to use etc. I'm going to to paint my 36ft motorhome by myself! I need to watch more videos!
the bigger the surface you're shooting the more filters for your respirator you'll need, you will make a lot of overspray HVLP or not,use your breathing apparatus and live to paint many things, good luck, once you adjust your fan leave it there for uniform coverage, have someone help you with hoses, goes quicker
Mario Rodriguez thank you for watching. I stopped there. You could wet sand and buff but not really needed. It’s a urethane paint so doesn’t need a clear coat. Can wait 4 weeks until it’s completely hard and just wax it. If outside in the sun I would wax ever 6 to 8 months. Hope this helps you out.
There are many factors in getting a good result. One place I found that successfully combines these is the Magic Painter Method (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the no.1 info i've heard of. Check out this extraordinary website.
Thank you for all your support and videos they are very helpful. I have a question on single stage paint from Sherwin Williams. what is the flash time between coats? how many coats do I need to apply?
That looked nice when you was done. I was gonna attempt to spray my car hood and was wondering how far l should go with the grit of sandpaper? If l got ready to paint and wet sanded it with a 400 then 800 and once more with a 1500 then wipe it down and paint it. Do ya think thats good? Or should l of went further on to a 3000 grit ? Or did l go too far with my sanding?

Thanks for the video, I badly orange peeled my cj7 in Orange (LOL) and was looking for what I did wrong. I guess it was way too low psi ( 18-20 ) I've wet sanded it with 400 and will try again with 30 - 35psi as you have shown.
MrBigredf250 bad orange peel on a single stage could also mean you did not put the coats wet enough. with hvlp gun you're not supposed to have high pressure.
Great video brother, for not being in a paintbooth great job with pretty minimal dirt. What brand Urethane did you use in this video? Going to do my motorcycle tank and fenders in a single stage urethane
my first time painting did a single stage white and left pretty bad orange peel. Am I able to sand and buff to fix the orange peel look or will I have to remove it and do it again? awesome video!

I shoot single stage a lot, I'd suggest a hat or painters sock so your hair doesn't get a mist coat of overspray. Beautiful spray, nice work!
+Paul Lujan Thanks for watching and that's good advice I will do that for sure.

Actually it will lay down just as nice with high volume low pressure hence HVLP
I have the newer version gun the DeVilbiss FLG 4. I heard good things about the finishline guns. Cant wait to use mine. Im also spraying single stage
they are awesome, but like ALOT of air.,
Great video brother and thanks for sharing it!
Did you use a slow - medium or fast reducer on this project?
Thanks
Looks nice. Single stage iswhat I bought for my 79 dodge aspen hope it looks just as good. I have an 8:1 ratio paint
Great straight forward instructional video, thank you for sharing. And you MUST protect your eyes!
thank you sir. really great . do you think that higher air pressure in the gun helps avoid orange peel paint? thank you. frank
Always wondered how single stage worked. Thank you!
I fux wit this guy heavy, simply for his choice in music. I subbed for sure
Thanks ,you answered my question, spraying manufactured parts for new product ,ironically same color, just needed settings and tip size, thanks

Sweet thanks for the tips I needed a little more about the ratio of paint but it looks straight forward
great video man, Im doing my 98TA this week! THANKS!
That high pressure tip is solid.
Super nice brother!!!
Are u going to sand that? Or could it be sanded? What would be the next step. Or does it just end there?
Thanks looks beautiful
Mario Rodriguez thank you for watching. I stopped there. You could wet sand and buff but not really needed. It’s a urethane paint so doesn’t need a clear coat. Can wait 4 weeks until it’s completely hard and just wax it. If outside in the sun I would wax ever 6 to 8 months. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks Mr. Robert. Sure it helps out.
Thanks again Brother. :)
I tried single stage urethane after years of using 2 stage. Painted an aluminum airplane door. I really liked the results.
I did a few pieces new to paint, and 2 stage was a pain!! Went for the single stage and wow, some much easier to shoot for the newbs..
Doc Upland Ca
Do all solid have the same mix ratio?
The mixing was different using a single stage, then a regular 2 stage process. Ppg is 1 to 1, and the single stage was like playing scientist.
@@docsgaragewerks ok..thanks

Is there a single stage for plastic parts , Bumpers , Fender flares ect ? thanks
thank you. single stage seems to be easier than clear coat and buffing.
Nice job on the paint and pillar pods
I subscribed bro....keep me posted
Thanks man and thank you for watching and subscribing!
@@robertjacquin do all solids have the same mix ratio?
Great Job bud,, the speaker 🔊 holders came out looking better than it should👍🏻🙋🏽♂️
Nice work!
Looks great a lot more simple than doing clearcoat thank you
Great video that has shown me how to start my project.
Thank you for all your support and videos they are very helpful. I have a question on single stage paint from Sherwin Williams. what is the flash time between coats? how many coats do I need to apply?
20-30 min and 2 coats one light and 1 heavy..
you did a good job ,good gun, good paint ,
Hi from Scotland thank you for your video good information thanks again
That was a good video, I appreciate the demo. Safety first!

Thank you for watching yes I like all kinds of music
Very good job! What about humidity affecting the paint? I could see the sheen on your arms.

I did come out nice with alittle more pressure. Another thing to is to make sure there is enough lighting so see how wet the paint is laying down.
how did you do it can you share with me , thank you
Thanks, great info. Told me exactly what I needed to know.
Can l mix base coat hardener & clear coat ?
Did u shoot clear after or it was just the paint nice job though good for beginners.
No clear needed on single stage paint......
Good job dude

Hi mr.? I just want to ask what kind of compressor are u using at???
Can you spray urethane clear coat over 40yr old enamel?

what psi do you run your gun at and what brand is your spray gun
hey bro what if your using single stage spray cans? how do u go about that? do u have to add anything besides prime, base and clear?
Real life Fantasy I think your confused buddy. If your using a base and a clear then your not spraying a single stage. A single stage is color and shine in one product, no clear coat required
Nice color man
Nice job..
You be whistling while you talk bro!! Lol thanks cool vid
how do you protect your camera?
Nice end result!
good job man what psi did you use ?
Around 34 psi
34 is extremely high but for a single stage shouldnt effect pigment contrasting. A typical single stage would be 20-25 psi wide open. Itll should like a wet puff. That would be ideal, especially when uou do get into pigments that are soluble enough to contrast
nice work thanks
