Old country is the best and your Dad is one of them. A true country artist.

The way this podcast keeps on unfolding and deepening is amazing. It was hard for me to imagine how the excellence and excitement of Season 1 could be maintained, but guess what, it has, and then some. Very excited for the rest of Season 2, and about where it is headed in Season 3. What an incredible gift. 💝

Thank you for your incredibly diligent research and dedication to this project. I'm a touring musician having hardly listened to Country music prior, and it's opened up a wonderful world of music and musical knowledge for me. The direction of seasons 2 and 3 sound incredible. Thanks again - Josh

Season 3 drives right into my wheel-house! These are the best podcasts out there, at least for me. Cheers!

Was lucky enough to see Justin right after Harlem River Blues was released. I have seen a lot of shows, including Dylan himself and nothing has come close. I'm just sorry for those who discovered his greatness too late.

"A paint by numbers product made for children who grew up thinking the clown show they heard on the radio was country music" Bingo and bullseye. Thanks Tyler for all your work in documenting and sharing the history of country music.

TMC, I’m with you on your assessment of what is and isn’t country music. I’d argue that country music stopped being country music around mid to late 1990’s instead of 2000. In addition, on your clear channel comment, spot on and as you’ve accurately cited the sentiment In Tom Petty’s “the last DJ.”

Tyler, I'm so sorry that you've lost a friend and that this world has lost such a great musician. For the record, my favorite episodes are the ones that you delve into history for, like the Rusty and Doug Kershaw episode, so I'm especially excited to see what you do with the vast history that is at your fingertips.

Nice Jane Doe shirt. I’m an Amarillo boy that had depression era parents but have lived in nyc for 16 years. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Looking forward to getting to know you....and your thoughts on the history/evolution of traditional music...evolution used loosely. I always appreciate a fresh point of view ✌🕉☃️

Although apocryphal, the concept of gospel songs being not simply an expression of religiou s devotion but also a means of conveying instructions to runaway slaves embodies the concept of speaking to different audiences in different ways with the same medium. ( wade in the water, etc..)
Very interesting and introspective take you have on all of this and I appreciate the chance to look at it from a new angle.
Also, I’m sorry for your loss

Tyler your views are dead on and what so many had to do to get past the control of what happens to a song after its written and just get forgotten until it's pulled from a desk drawer, been there and I would have loved to talk to your father with guitars on our knees

I think you are over-intellectualizing real Country Music. Not that I disagree with the premise. It used to be called Madison Ave. The next thing you know, Harvard will be offering classes on the juxtaposition of pre & post 2000 Country Music. God help us!
