Why do you have tears in your eyes? Thats easy. You just felt what he did when he sang it. He poured out his soul in every song. And This one showed that even in his poor health he gave it his all when he sang. He did not let anyone down when he performed. He did so much for this world. And we need to respect that. And pass that on and understand what he put into music. Listen to other songs and understand him better. Because there will never be another singer like him.

No one knew they were watching a dieing performer. Elvis passed away shortly after this performance. He was a very sick man and should have been in a hospital, not on stage performing. His body was failing him. He had glaucoma, heart ,and intestine problems, not to mention bad medication that he shouldn't have been taking. R I P. Elvis Presley.✌️❤️🙏🙏🙏

He was as beautiful on the inside as he was externally. Please check out One Night With You form his ‘68 Comeback Special. And thank you for the reaction. I still shed tears every time I see this

This is heart achingly beautiful and tragic at the same time. Elvis was definitely spiraling here. He’s clearly unwell, slurring his speech, high and addicted to prescription drugs. How could he still perform this song at this level? He was dead 6 weeks later.

God bless him ❤ he was just weeks from passing away. He was so terribly sick, couldn’t see clearly and yet listen to his voice… it must’ve been so hard to sing given how ill he was but his voice stood by him until the end… and that beautiful smile, it never faded either. RIP Elvis, you were only here 42 years but you changed music forever ❤

How Elvis gave Rock & Roll a face: Elvis Presley was singing in the 1940s in black and white churches down south during segregation in the great depression. His viewpoint coming from dirt poverty was profound. His twin brother was stillborn and buried in a shoebox. His home was a shotgun shack with no electricity or running water. That was his humble beginnings.
He grew up in two legendary neighborhoods Shakerag in Mississippi and Beale Street in Memphis Tennessee. Elvis came from gospel and country and knew as many blues songs as BB King (BB said that!) and they were great friends as you saw in the movie. That’s the holy trinity of rock ‘n’ roll.
So Elvis was absolutely a pioneer as he was singing before Little Richard and Chuck Berry cut their first record. ELVIS MERGED THE BLUES AND ROCKABILLY AND GOSPEL and gave it a sound and stage presentation. NOBODY LOOKED OR SOUNDED LIKE HIM….
He was absolutely one of its pioneers and he engineered a very creative style that’s inspired everyone in the business one way or another. For a white man to be breaking segregation laws and fighting for black artists to be able to enter THE FRONT OF music venues and treated with dignity the same way a white person forever changed those dark and dirty “colored only “ entrances on the rear or side of venues.
No single human being changed the face of music more than Elvis Presley dead or alive and that’s just plain TRUTH.

THE ONE SONG THAT WILL TALK TO GENERATIONS of YOUNG PEOPLE for THOUSANDS OF YEARS. Imagine the 1960s, race riots. JFK Shot Dead. RFK Shot Dead. Malcolm X Shot Dead. Dr Martin Luther King shot dead. In particular, the MLK and RFK assassinations affected him beyond repair and push him into action. There were MANY ROADBLOCKS to get this song to the public square.
NBC executives said NO. Elvis' manager Tom Parker said NO. Sponsors and advertisers over at NBC who was supporting this TV special said NO. NOONE wanted to touch the subject of racism and human unkindness, but Elvis. In the end, Elvis won and got his chance, so he placed the song AT THE END of his show, right where they wanted him to finish with a Christmas song. Elvis had already agreed to the Christmas song. He was a deeply religious man, and would spread the Word daily.
Soon as Elvis heard this song he said he was placing it at the end, the grand finale. Everyone was pissed. Except for Elvis. He changed the world. When it mattered, when IT REALLY MATTERED, Elvis did big things to bring people together.
Typically he did these things behind the scenes, he never asked for praise for any of his generous deeds, which were MANY. But THIS TIME... for the first time he wanted to lend his voice PUBLICALLY. The nation was in mourning and fighting. Elvis saw a vision of peace and inclusion that very very few other people were seeing at the time. We are in NEED of his voice and vision TODAY.

probably cos he was about to die. It is a great performance, but you gotta go back a bit to see him in the different phases of his career to really understand how great he was. He looked awful in this video, and just 2-3 years earlier it would have been impossible to think of him looking anything like this. He could sing, but he had a whole charisma that meant singing was only a part of why people gravitated towards this guy. Go and check out Jailhouse Rock 1957 to understand how he moved music from standing still singing nice lyrics to expression on stage like no one had ever seen - th-cam.com/video/MfrC8PAQtlg/w-d-xo.html
