    I just bought my first Snapper. It is a one owner, garage kept, 1983 model. It has been sitting in the garage for around 10 years. I want to do everything required to put it back in service. If this means opening the transmission case, then I guess that is what I will do. Thank you for this video! I may have skipped over some critical considerations without it.

    Hi Jim - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I guess I've been lucky with my 1996 box section RER. I was afraid of stripping down the gear case for fear of opening up a hornets' nest so I just bunged in 80/90 gear oil up to the fill level and kept on cutting. The old grease must have blocked all holes as I haven't had any leaks! We've seen the tornado footage on the news here and it's impossible for us to comprehend the impact of such events. I hadn't realised that they could strike all the way up to the Great Lakes.

    I am subscribed Jim, you can buy 00 GREASE from Tractor supply company for 7 bucks for a quart. That is the cheapest price I have found Sir. Now that is a deal. Or you can mix half number 2 grease and 500 weight ford differential oil for the model T Ford will make real sticky grease like snapper lube that will not dry out. Also, my Snapper dealer said Snapper does not sell the lube any more..
    Thanks for the information Sir. vf

      I can tell you that the original oil is different from the new replacement oil that they sell for a fair price. The original Ford differential oil which I have found at flea markets and year sales. Hope that helps and does not bore you with the facts. Good day Jim too. vf. @@jimjackson9381

    I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but it seems one advantage of using 90W or similar "fluid" is that a powerful rare-earth magnet could be mounted within one of the rubber plugs. This might allow the particulates generated through wear to be filtered out of the case helping to prevent further wear. Might make for a good experiment. The plug would need to be removed in concert with the magnet to keep the fines from falling back in, but I think that could be managed.

    • @jimjackson9381
      @jimjackson9381  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose that would work if you could get something to stick to the back of the plastic plug, automakers have been installing magnets inside of their transmissions for years because the gears that they stamp out are not deburred. Jim

    Well i do have some differential gear oil 80w90 and Amazon is out of that 00 transmission oil grease for the chain case
    I checked this guys and his is almost out of grease or oil in the chain case I gotta put something in it and I don't mind what it is long as it wets those parts his sprocket teeth are still good I'm surprised
    His differential is lubricated and good with old stuff in it I'm not gonna mess with that
    But the chain case needs lubrication I have a bottle of 80w90 gear oil and I'm gonna use that maybe that and pump some white grease in with it. It needs something because those chain sprockets are almost dry the teeth are good
