I collect cds and cassettes and record my own. Don’t care for records too much and would rather use cassettes. Honestly can’t tell much of a quality difference between Spotify and cassettes. I wish they’d come back full force like records did..
Cassette tapes were the best technology, that were ever made and invented. As it just it doesn’t jump or skip, when you walk or jog or run. Unlike cds players and types I think it scratch or damage easily, unlike cds or vinyls as types doesn’t need too much protection. Unlike cds or vinyls does. 😊
I still own over 100 cassette tapes and 8 track tapes including compact disc and minidisk. Don't get me wrong, I love the convenience of streaming and downloading, but there's something special about physical formats that's so organic when it comes to listening to music. 🤗❤️
I have a 1977 Quadraflex PCD 388 and with a nicely recorded tape it's awesome! It's probably one of the higher end decks that were sold at pacific stereo back in the late 70's. Nowadays it's hard to find a proper new deck that weights 12 pounds! Also and actual metal all around construction.
My Sony boombox from 2020 makes really good recordings onto cassette from Spotify. I listen to them on my Walkman and in the car. Can’t tell much of a difference. As long as you have something decent I think it’s fine. It isn’t necessary to have a high end stereo system or cassette deck to get decent quality sound and performance.
@@9852323I only have a Magnavox Walkman from around 1991 and some of my tapes sound fine. In fact they're even louder when I turn Dolby noise reduction off.
Cassette tapes are about 10 cents a piece at rummage sales you can score a big there they were up to like 15 to $17 and the sound quality is excellent only problem is you have to be able to listen to a whole side then flip it over
I like to make cassettes from CDs. When I made them from vinyl, the music search wouldn't work because of the noise. It stood out like a sore thumb. That's probably why I go for CDs. That's besides the wider dynamic range and the 44.1 whatever.
Cassettes are the sound of the 80s to me. Many songs I grew up with are etched in my mind with that particular tape sound. Listen to a song on the internet or CD and then listen to the same song on cassette. They have a 'sound', more presence, more intimate and atmospheric and yet more punchy somehow too. I'd love to release my stuff on cassette some day.
I love cassettes and always have but when I was a kid maybe 4 I took the tape out of a cassette not VHS (which makes it worse) and put the tape into the VCR. The VCR died that day so I never got to watch VHS :(
Cassettes had 3 things going for them that we had to wait until the digital era to have again. They were dirt cheap. They were portable. And one of the biggest things and you've touched upon it is recording whatever you wanted. The 20th century equivelant of downloading music. Some.of the comeback is nostalgia and then novelty for you ger people. But to be honest some of it just makes sense. Even in the digital era tapes would be cheaper than usb sticks and SD cards.

Wrong Carson, 8 Tracks are considered lowest quality plus most 8 tracks would interrupt at least 1 song for about 30 seconds. How did we ever accept breaking a 4 minute song into 2 parts?
@@BryanDrew Yes they do. It's like half a second and a dropout of sound. Some are faster and you won't even notice it. Most just record over the track switch.
I think Walkmans are intriguing to zoomers because they’re so used to smartphones being able to do everything that it’s a cool novelty to have a device like a Walkman that only has one function but does it well.
Nobody thinks that people are gonna ditch Spotify and start listening on maxwells, but for young people like myself these are cool things to experiment with. Aswell they’re cheap, it’s nice to have you’re music on a physical format so I was between CDs and Viynl. CDs are nothing special and are digital just like Spotify and they’re boring, viynl is very delicate and very expensive and I can’t record onto it. Tape is a special format, it’s analog, can be recorded on and is far cheaper than viynl
@Gort yep, people still like to actually own their music and buy albums, and cassettes are perfectly suited for that. Even basic Type I can sound better than free Spotify. They are compact, portable and robust enough for teenage handling. Tapes have low level of standard hiss, but brains clean it out easily. There is an appeal in analogue sound. Vinyls might reach higher sound quality at the top end, but cassettes can give better bang for buck. You need to spend a lot more in equipment for Vinyls to get to the level of basic vintage sony walkman. People remember the radio recordings on cheap boomboxes to cheap tape or the copies of copies they got from friends. We don't judge digital music based on the cellphone concert recordings, we shouldn't judge cassettes based on careless teenage recordings either.
I love both but tapes are cheaper and I can record off spotify from phone to the tape deck and then the songs are mine without downloading the spotify decryption software or buying a download
Cassettes and CDs is Far more portable than Vinyl EPs and LPs. Cassettes and CDs still had its own Disadvantages, Still its relatvely Cyrstal Clear Audio compared to Vinyl. Especially Vinyl got clicks from dirty or scratched vinyls. Vinyl clicks is fine if you had a decent speakers with audio system, but with headsets and headphone it's a nuisance.
@@JerrySpann-fn4kw Sadly, Dolby has stopped licensing their noise reduction system since Ray Dolby passed away 10 years ago. There's some good news that National Audio Company does make Type II tapes but they're Cobalt rather than Real CrO2.

Not unless you have Auto-Reverse.
Flipping it over isn’t much of a big deal though and some players have auto-reverse
And such kind of practicality of it makes you keep attached to the medium itself.

I want my daddy's records.

The vinyl revival was pretty pointless too. Anything physical will wear out, so back it up on file when it's new.
