I think you've captured a rare sighting of the Cormorantus Narcissistus. As long as they're centre stage, they'll do anything to get your attention. In fact, it's almost human like!
You are correct their behaviour is very different from Mallards. This cormorant had been dive bombed by black headed gulls . I think he was trying to wash himself from the droppings. Thank you for watching and learning.

You may be right, however judging by the black headed gulls buzzing him, i think he was super annoyed.
Their behavior appears slightly different from that of mallards, perhaps because they are chasing fish.
