I'm glad I watched your video. I bought this deck when it first came out and then got rid of it, primarily because of the 4 of pentacles, I couldn't make heads or tails of it, I really thought Giuliano had lost his mind or was just being ridiculously lazy. I was going through a very difficult period in my personal life, so my perceptions were seriously off. As you know, for some people a single card, the design of the back, whatever it is, can make or break a deck. Now, all of the sudden as I'm watching your video, I suddenly understand the significance of the imagery. Not only was the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood essentially English, but the Beefeater wardens are your guides on the tour of the Tower of London that houses and showcases the British Royal Crown jewels and stunning examples of the silversmith's art., duh. Their story about clipping the raven's wings is also very entertaining, but I digress. My favorite card is the 7 of cups. No other artist has captured the significance of that card as profoundly and beautifully as Giuliano Costa. The Pandora's Box imagery is absolute genius. I guess I'll be replacing this deck LOL.
This deck is one of my favorites this year so far, it is so vibrant and alive. Thank you for sharing the references and yes, I had the same complaint about the sameness but that’s all. I hope they release it’s sister deck borderless so I could use them together.
I agree about the clouds, that’s a very valid criticism. Could’ve created a lot more emotion and moodiness to enhance each card’s meaning by differentiating the sky more. I do love the rest of the imagery though, the intricacy is wonderful, but not too much. Thank you for this review.
I always have seen clouds as thoughts, just a thought. Love these cards, have been trying to figure out what cards these were from seeing a utube reader using these but could only see the odd card and the back but at a angle, but the ace of swords I saw, so that started my quest to find. So happy to have solved my mystery. Now we are in lockdown and can’t get them couriered. Oh well at least I know now what cards they are.
