Stats: Hypothesis Testing (P-value Method)

  • Demonstrates the basics of hypothesis testing using the P-value method: find the test statistic which in turn gives us the P-value, then compare the P-value to the level of significance (alpha) to determine whether or not the Null Hypothesis is rejected or not.
    Remember, first find the test statistic. Then, using its value, find the AREA in the tail(s). This area is called the "p-value". To find area, watch this video: • Stats: Finding Probabi...
    PLEASE NOTE! I did not make a mistake by showing .0045 as the area (probability) for 2.61. Look carefully at my picture. I have shaded to the *RIGHT* of 2.61, not to the left. If you look up 2.61 on your table and see .9955 your table is assuming you want the area shaded to the LEFT of 2.61. Again, I shaded to the RIGHT of 2.61. I hope that makes sense.

    I like your P-Value testing approach - it is better than my college-level statistics course. With "null testing" - you get some "negatives". If you are testing a "research hypothesis", the you are almost always looking for a "one tail test". Your "research hypothesis" can be very strong by these methods. Thanks for your effort!

  • @dumisanimasaka
    @dumisanimasaka 11 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Use the Z score formula to calculate Z then
    You use Z value table.
    2.61 is a Z score and the probability for 2.61 from the table is 0.9955.
    However this value is the area (1-a). So to find the correct area of the tail, you subtract 0.9955 from 1 which gives 0.0045
