You're the real king! Just got promoted to BI leader in my company, solely by taking adv your videos & tips for my reports in the past 10 months. I am forever grateful Bas
congratulations! 🎉🎊🍾 this comment really made my day! Maybe it started with the video but at the end it is all about what YOU did with it:) super, keep pushing 😎
Bas your channel and content is hands down the best anywhere. In depth yet so simple to understand the way you explain. Simply no competition out there 😊 My team that I am a part of is migrating from Tableau to Power BI (currently on Feb 2023 version due to IT restrictions). I have local admin permissions on my work laptop so I can upgrade PBI to May/June 2023 but have to wait since need to train my team on PBI features before jumping the gun. Your videos make it sooooo tempting to just update to latest version and start enhancing my dashboards. 😅😅
You are awesome!!I was recently promoted to a Senior Performance Analyst position and timelines will be a major feature that will be used! I start in 3 weeks, but I want to have this knowledge prior to my start date. You are one of my Power Bi geru's.
Excelent, Bas did u turn off the tooltip for Event Pos Y 1 ?? . Because if not, all the measures will show when we move the mouse coursor over the points, right?
Your content is absolutely brilliant, can you also share the data set that you use for these examples? I am new to power BI and i would love to try it practically
this is the sort of thing that should be a feature in power bi. I sometimes do similar stuff to have changing colors according to trends in shadow graphs, and I always wonder why the need for such "dataviz engineering"... nevermind, great video! lots of new ideas
Many thanks, great video! Do you see any possibility to add a hyperlink to those key events? Would be extremely helpful if the end-user could click on it and see the announcement page or whatever.
Amazing stuff, I will definitely be trying this out. Bas, is it possible to do this with multiple lines? Say instead of year being on the x-axis, the year becomes the legend and the x-axis is instead the month, making each year a line so that it is easy to compare the same months. Can we still add annotations to the data points like this?
Amazing video.. How did you get that interface? I dont have the buttoms at the side of the graphics and the option to choose a field content by clic on it. I must drag from the right where is all the data
Hi Bas, this is awesome stuff, tried it and loved it. However, I faced some difficulties during my own implementation. When my timeline has multiple events on the same day, the error bar gets elongated (that's fine given how error bars work). The main issue is that I am unable to get all event names to show up simultaneously, because Power BI only displays the first/last/count. Is there some solution or workaround that is more elegant than manually combining events names that fall on the same day?
That`s fanstastic feature! Thank you! If there were several events in the table on one date, then only one event for that date is displayed on the graph. how to solve it?
Many thanks for your videos on Power BI, these are always very helpful and informative. I have a very simple and small question. Can we reuse or call a variable in another DAX expression? For example, I am working on a financial projection assignment. Using a DAX I have calculated the collection percentage and stored it in a variable. Now I want to use this variable in some other DAX expression but I do not see it. In its original DAX where that variable was defined, it appears as (x) but not in other DAX. Please explain if it is possible. Thanks
BAS this is cool but not working for me. First of all, I can't see the Custom data labels and there seems to be no way to bring them in. I can apply the setting in "title" but thats not following your steps anymore. Secondly, when i add my actual data in $ figures on the secondary y axis, it either shows as one straight line or does not show at all. I'm not sure what is going on, can you help?
Hi. Maybe you can help me with an advice. How to filter matrix visualization so it will change only values and rows with columns will be untouchable. By using interactions when slicer only filter the table I am getting not that picture that I want. DAX UpdatedScore = CALCULATE( SUM(Data[Score]), ALL(Data), Game[Game] = SELECTEDVALUE(Game[Game])) shows wrong data, but bring almost what i wanted
Hi Bas, can you please make a video on how to create a Waterfall chart with multiple totals (like LY Actual Vs current year actual Vs Target), love your videos man you are my hero :}
TESLA TO THE MOON 🚀 Cool graph but I think I would have just used the date as the custom data label and had the description in the tooltip to keep things tidier
After playing around with this I think the issue is because I have previously used Calculation Groups in the PBI file which affects the auto sum function on numbers which in turn impacts on using the eventid in the chart... even using selected value or sum of the eventid doesn't solve the issue as the event description will not be added as a custom value. very annoying
It'd be nice if labels could be set to the LEFT of a marker, instead of just above or below. But a somewhat complex workaround (and isn't that what Bas's channel is all about?!) is to create a measure or calculated column to offset each datum slightly to the left and add another data series with hidden markers and visible labels. But that's probably getting a bit more complicated than needed.

Great to hear, happy I can help :):)
Thank you Bas! I totally needed this tutorial. I’ve been struggling to figure how to do this and you showed me the way!
Ah 😎 cool, nice to see you needed thsi visual!

Amazing Bas!!!
Your capability to blend imagination with tech skills is fantastic!
Congratulations!!!💯💯💯💯💯
Thank you Joao :) Cheers!
Excellent job. Really like that PBI visual.
Great instructions as allways! your the man!
I appreciate that! 🙏 thanks
It´s hard to describe in words how incredible your work actually is! Thank you a lot!
Wow, thank you Andre! :) 😎
@@HowtoPowerBI Dear Bas, how to handle multiple events for the same date?
Another terrific video! I have not known the errors bars are so useful until today.
well, that trimmed bared looks great! and as usual great video.
Oh thanks 🧔🏻♂️😎🤪
Your content is absolutely brilliant, can you also share the data set that you use for these examples? I am new to power BI and i would love to try it practically
I watched this a while ago and thought it was cool - coming back to it, this is cool, useful, explained well.. thanks so much.
Wow! I'm speakless! What amazing and usefull tip. Congrats! I´ll share it, for sure!!
Awesome! Thank you Elton :)
Hi Bas, is there any trick to align the titles to the left rather on the top!? @HowtoPowerBI
Definitely like it. I dont get to have rhe possibility to set a custom data label. How can I get access to this feature?
Hi Valentin, it is in the may version (you need to enable it in the preview options under settings)
Thank you for the fast reply! I'll try it straightaway
Would be nice to have better control of the labels. For example, being able to wrap them to a confined area. Great video!
this is the sort of thing that should be a feature in power bi. I sometimes do similar stuff to have changing colors according to trends in shadow graphs, and I always wonder why the need for such "dataviz engineering"... nevermind, great video! lots of new ideas
I totally agree! Sometimes the workaround takes way too long (thinking doing and DAX) for the benefit
You are the man , thank you for posting
😎 sure , thx for watching
Another clever banger! Nice work
Appreciate it! :)
Nice! Can't wait to try that out!
You should! Many many options!
See how happy he is while talking about Error bars.😊😊 Nice video Bas👍
Absolutely one of the best features in pbi
@@HowtoPowerBI Yes, i love it❤️
Simply the best !

And I thought I knew the possibilities of PBI... Oh well... :D Thank you for your awesome and useful trainings.
PBI has a lot to offer haha especially with all the new buttons you can click now :)
Many thanks, great video!

How do I display events on a parallel line (in date order) please?? Your videos are amazing thanks so much!

No doubt 👍😊
Hey Bas, I'm recreating this at work and can't work out why only the events from 7 upwards are showing... any ideas? 🤞
Beautiful. I would also try to add zoom slider :)
That would be cool!
Great new design love it
Thank you Jimmy! Cheers!
Wow impressive really✊✊✊💥💥
Thx😊👍
Always something new🙂😀
:):)
True
Any possibility to share the working file? If not, even that's ok but honestly great work and how we can bring this in our analytics work.
:) download link is in the description
I'm not seeing the ability to turn on error bars...has the feature been discontinued?
It is amazing..Well done, Thank you very much for sharing 👏👏
Thank you! Cheers! 😎
like in a same chart can insert forecasted dates and show their delay? or is there any other way ?
That`s fanstastic feature! Thank you!
If there were several events in the table on one date, then only one event for that date is displayed on the graph. how to solve it?
Add the "event" column in the "Legend" field. That does the trick for me.
Great as usual
Thanks Andy glad you think so! 😊
Really nice creativity! How much of your time is just spent tinkering around? Always impressed by your non-standard use of features
Thank you very much! Yeah trying out every button :)
Great tutorial and ideas. What if we add start date and end date of the events! If any tip plz
Impressive Bas, as usual on your channel.
Much appreciated! Happy to see you here 😎
Thank you for the great video! I wish one day I could be as good as you in PBI 🚀! BTW LOVE the error bars, can't wait to try it on in my dashboard
Thanks a lot, great viedo, hugs from Colombia

Great content. just one question is it possible we can two dates comparison (baseline dates vs forecasted dates) and their delay in a same chart? how?

What if you needed to incorporate this into combo chart, where both of these would be on the same axis? How would you create dynamic event id?
How did you create the dimDate table and what is its purpose?

Next level visual though we should need to add custom tooltip to minimize the data label.
Always an option:)
You are just amazing 🥰
where can I find the data set to practice?
Download link in the description
Thanks for this great video
Requesting you to create video for Microsoft Fabric plz

So great!
Tried this but the custom label refused to allow me to add the description in

How about a vertical view for this, to make more room for each daye event 🙄 Brilliant tutorial as always, really loving your content 👍👍
Will try but it’s generally strange to see.timeline vertically
bravo, I can't wait drawing a similar timeline
Go for it!
