Huh, I had been there a few times myself and never knew this either....
After 8 years of touring, I had my first "bad trip" there.
    Black pyramids, with gold tips.
Now I am a Father of three and sober as can be.
    Sigh, still missin' Jerry though.

Bill Graham spared no expense when it came to what he referred to as 'his' band. Bill was like a dad to the GD. Helping bankroll them when things were tight. New Years runs were his show. BGP made west coast shows a delight. Softer lighting, volleyball games pre show at rear floor. Food that catered to the psychedelic...not hot dogs and EZ cheese. Bill probably attended more GD concerts than anyone outside the band themselves up until the night he was killed. He truly loved the Grateful Dead. And building Shoreline shaped as a Stealie when viewed from above...with perfect dimensions nonetheless!...proves just how 'dead'icated he was. We miss you Bill. And even though youve now been gone longer than your time spent as part of the GD scene..your legacy lives on! And so does your building....

Tom Mittemeyer ...Tom, I used to work for Bill Graham doing security. You may have heard the term "Bluecoat", its from wearing blue windbreaker jackets at Shoreline. Other concerts at other venues, it was light blue (Baby blue) vests that had STAFF on the backs.
      I worked for Bill from 1987 - 1993.
I also worked FIVE GD NYE shows in a row.
The first one for me was when Bill was OLD MAN Time on a float of The Golden Gate Bridge at midnight. I was one of the security clearing the path for the float to come through.
Nowadays, I live in Nashville, Tenn.
I was still working for Bill when he was killed in that chopper crash with his pilot and his girlfriend Melissa Gold.
Anyway, maybe we may have crossed paths during some GD shows or other shows.

1993, I will never forget not knowing if it was dusk or dawn at 7 p.m., and the unrecognizable spinning faces of everyone around me...real bummer that would have put a noob in the hospital for life.

+ Peter O'Connor. Very cool you worked for BGP during those years. Probably got to see/hear many a Dead show. And prob had fun doing it.
I was at your first New Years run. The Golden Gate bridge show was the BEST NYE show I saw the Dead play. New Years shows really weren't meant for their musical oomph but just the Band having fun.
They cooked that night. We talked to a security usher that night after the show. An African American woman who someone had dosed (with her o.k.). I still remember her grinning ear to ear and saying 'Michael Jackson ain't got nothing on the Grateful Dead!'
A truly treasured moment indeed. So glad the Dead pulled off a great show for her!

Theres definitely something about the Dead at Shoreline. When I was there in 95 they shut down all the big vendors and let the kids do their thing. People walking around naked holding giant cubensis in the air with no hassles. It was insulated.
