The Knack broke the Top 100 with "My Sharona" in 1979 as well as Queen with "Fat Bottomed Girls" that same year.
Sweet hit with "Ballroom Blitz" in 75.
Crazy Horse had a smash in '79 with "Rust Never Sleeps" which would sound cool on that guitar. Rock music was beginning to lose out to Disco; but, there was some good guitar back then. We survived. There will always be guitar music. Always.

jonathanlovitt - They were refreshing at that time. As were others. Such as The Pretenders. The Heart Breakers. The Clash. Guitar bands. Good stuff. "Disco Sucks" was the battle cry.
ACDC became one of my favorites.. only to find out Bon Scott would soon be dead. That was a drag, but they came back hard as ever.
These days I'm amazed. Some of these kids can shred. Insanely. Guitar music will never die.

Yeah it reminds me a lot of the Les Paul Recording, which was the kind of les Paul that Les Paul himself used to play. It's got all these added electronics and things in them, I believe this Artist model was actually inspired by the Recording model. But yeah the Recording had two output Jack's for stereo play, and boosting and cutting of various frequencies, and very unique pickups that have never been imitated or put in any other guitar, those Recording models sound absolutely beautiful and the only way to get those pickups is to get a vintage Recording model for $10,000 or whatever. I'm hoping Lollar will make some new modern version of those pickups, like how they made new Charlie Christian pickups

Steve Khan recorded his classic solo on Steely Dan’s Glamour Profession with an ES version of the Artist series.
The genuinely fine Artists IMO were those made by Ibanez from 1981-83 (or so). Well…made for Ibanez by Fuji-gen Gakki and Terada.

Steve Howe also used the ES version of the Gibson Artist on Asia's first tour - I don't think he ever recorded with them, but with all the switches he could cover the tones of many of the guitars he used in the studio with one guitar. I think he had 3 of them for that tour - and he added an upper pickguard to his (i.e. a second pickguard on the bass side of the guitar).

Brass hood ornaments were popular in 79 as well haha, but a beautiful guitar. The stop tailpiece looks unique, is that a roller bridge equipped with tuning screws?

manaman545, if you look to the right of the cover, there seems to be a smaller narrower cover that only needs two or three screws. I’m hoping that’s the battery compartment cover.
