I have an old friend who lives just up the road from me and he raced a CL-72 back in the 60s and 70s. He still has it plus a few others, but he is looking at the Rebel 500 due to the low seat height. He is 80 now and has knee problems. He will be intrigued by the new Scramblers though. I started riding in 1964 and have decided to sell my three bikes. A 2000 ST1100 (best bike ever, IMHO) and a pair of 1996 XRs a 200 and a 250, both nicely restored with no expense spared. According to Clint Eastwood, "A man has to know his limitations," so I am recalibrating priorities and figure I have used up a couple of my nine lives by now at age 74.
Scooooop! Lol I think the CL500 will make it to the states. Modern Retro bikes are gaining traction. The XSR 700 sells pretty well from what I understand and this would be considerably more affordable. I’ve seen more than one attempt to turn the rebel 500 into a scrambler but the frame just doesn’t allow it. If it looks anything like the rendering with the metallic fuel tank and is under 7k, than I’ll more than likely pick one up.
I was hoping to see a 500 version of the H'ness for North America. The CL500 is close, but still not quite. I think Honda would have a hit with a middleweight old-school naked.
Hi I live in Australia and if the CL500 goes into production and actually comes to Australia, then it's the bike for me. All motorcycles that are NOW imported into Australia MUST have dual channel ABS installed on the bike so that it meets the Australian ARD ( Australian Design Rules ) otherwise they cannot be imported. This is my understanding
Interesting news on the potential scramblers. Their styling goes back to the CL72 250 scrambler from 1962, followed by the CL77 305 from 1965. The Hawk name goes back to the CB72 250 Hawk and CB77 305 Super Hawk, both from 1961.
I'm in the UK and have an 83 CL250S I'm trying to get back on the road right now. Love the styling, will be interesting to see if the new bikes make it
SubbeD! I've actually been dyin to have a honda scrambler. That Hawk also looks amazing. Yup, i want that too. Soo excited for this months shows. Just took my Black Edition out for its first ride this year. PLEASE HONDA MAKE A SCRAMBLER!!!!
why would you want a 5 gallon tank? It wouldn't look right. That engine gets 74 miles per gallon. 5 gallons in it is probably a longer range than your car has.
@@dirkdiggler5164 It doesn't have a longer range than my car. It won't get 74 mpg at highway speeds. I don't know that it won't "look right" with a 5+ gallon tank. I DO know that MY needs appear not to be YOUR needs.
@@sissydreams7494 Well, what I read is the Rebel 500 gets 74mpg, which would be 370 miles range on 5 gallons. My car goes 300 miles before it runs out of gas. Scramblers never had 5 gallon tanks...for example, the most iconic scrambler ever, the 1960s T120TT came with a 2.5 gallon tank. Just saying for the styling, an adventure touring type of fuel tank would be dumb looking
I love the way scramblers look, and I'd love a low powered one for town riding and short commuting trips, but I'd rarely be going off road on one, so I guess my question is what's the handling like on normal roads? Thank you.
It does seem a little low, doesn’t it? I’m still excited to ride one. I know it’s quite a torquey engine. I wonder if it’ll feel like the old Yamaha TRX850.
Every time a news bike is released in America everyone asks "Where's the scrambler?" Well here's two & they will probably sell. Not my style but lots of people want them & they will put knobby tires on for looks.
@@Mason_van_Bike I don't know why all the makers aren't adapting their existing models into standards and scramblers. It's easy and cheap for them to do. They can use engines they already have, that have already gone through the expensive and time consuming smog testing, and just change the layout of the bike. Capturing an entire additional market with minimal investment. They can also use many of the same parts that they already pout on their other models --- headlights, speedometers, fuel pumps, injectors, radiators, air filters, footpegs, etc. I'd never buy a Rebel 500, but I'd be interested in buying a CL500
Should be pretty fun, eh? Especially the 500 for bigger riders. Hoping for enough suspension travel to actually be useful off-road, and not just a looker.
@@Mason_van_Bike Yep. The older I get the better I like these smaller displacement scramblers. And like you said - hopefully we won’t have to mod them too much. Be nice right out of the box.
I rode a CL250 Silk Road when I lived in Tokyo in the early '90s. A friend lent me it for the day. We did a full day's riding round the Boso Peninsula. I live in Thailand now, and I could well replace my KTM 390 Duke with a CL500. 2:06 The FTR was a good-looking bike. Do you live in Tokyo? I have suscribed because of the Japan link.
If Honda builds a proper 500 Scrambler, it'll be the first NEW motorcycle I would WANT to buy since 1985
cl 500, I would pre order today if available

I'll be slamming my cash down for the red one as soon as I see one! CL500S I can't wait Lol
Keep us posted on the new cl scramblers. Very cool. I’m a buyer

Agreed! I always liked the Suzuki TU250x but it’s a little small for North America
Here comes CL series since 70's.
I prefer CL250

The 500 scrambler looks interesting. I hope they bring it to Canada. We were built for a nice mid sized scrambler

@weirdweld Good luck bringing the CL250S back on the road - I remember its styling really appealing to me when it appeared back in 1982.
The Last years for the CL were 1998-2000
I have a 1998 Now.. and would love a FI and electric start..
CL500 WILL BE GREAT

Thanks for the sub!
I’ll try to have some cool videos from the show for you!
I'll buy the CL500 IF they make it with a flat seat (as shown), LOW weight, a 5+ gallon tank, and tubeless tires!!!

I love the 500 in a twin both on & off road
As I'm short.
The Hawk 11 sport bike needs more power than the Africa Twins 100hp output.

CL 500 ❤️
I am really interested in the CL500 and if by some miracle they put a kick starter on it or the option to get one, I would pretty much be a buyer.
From what I've seen, maybe the scrambler 500
I would be very excited to see the scrambler 500 or the 1100 hawk

How long it will take to launch in India , actually I'm thinking of buying Honda CB 350 RS Scrumbler.
Be awesome to see in the US.
Couldn’t agree more! Even the smaller Rebels have sold pretty well, so I don’t see why these shouldn’t be popular too.

id be willing to trade up my crf250l rally for a cl500 if that pipe didn't interfere with panniers..

This looks good..
Sorry, I don't do Yen conversion in my head, soooo.

They could put that 500 in CRF Rally frame, but instead we getting more pointless bikes
.... not for North America....
Fingers crossed! It seems unlikely, but you never know.
