    This is so cool. Not many people around our age know about this film. It’s amazing and so well done. I’ve seen it at least twice.

    To me no other movie has captured this part of Texas. like this one..I live about 100 miles from Archer City...same environment....same values here. The cast helped to capture it thru their superb performances...every one of them just nailed it... The decision to do it in black and white was KEY ...the austerity of this area came thru better than it ever would have in color. Another thing they captured was the undercurrent sadness of a slowly dying era...a slowly dying town ...which is prevalent in these rural areas...I know, I live in one small dying town here in west central Texas

    The film being in black & white really enhanced the atmosphere of the town. Outstanding to see it still relatively the same today. Thanks Jordan !

    I live just a block and a half from the Royal. There are events there all the time. The town is very active. Lots of great people and a wonderful place to live.

    "The Last Picture Show" is truly a great movie. And Cybil Sheppard was gorgeous in it. Nice to see Breck again.

    I met Helena Humann, the actress who played Jimmie Sue, the "lady" who bloodied Billy's nose, at a theater production. She was nice enough to sign my Playbill. Interesting that they did not mention Larry McMurtry's Oscar winning screenplay, "Brokeback Mountain" on the metal signs you pointed out. RIP Larry McMurtry 1936-2021 and Peter Bogdanovich 1939-2022.

    One of my favorite movies, it captures a time lost in America. Jeff Bridges said that a sequal was possible? However with the passing of Larry McMurty and Bogdonavich I doubt it. Loved all the actors, they were great. Enjoy folks, your trip back to the 1950's.

    As a native Texan and fan of the movie, I especially enjoyed the vlog. The author Larry McMurtry captured small-town Texas, and Bogdanovich's movie did it justice. McMurtry also wrote Terms of Endearment.

    Jah is just THE best. He loves his grassy yards, dry or green. And what a fine little traveler.
    That was a very good vlog. Thanks, Jordan! I'd forgotten the plot of THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, but did remember that Cybill Shepherd dated Peter Bogdanovich. The two of them were in the same restaurant on Sunset one time when a date and I were having dinner. She was quite pretty in person as well as on the screen. In those days you could see stars a lot in the Sunset Bl. area. A friend of mine ran into Laurence Olivier out for a walk and he said "good afternoon" to her. LOL! She was all aflutter telling about it. Funny the things we remember.

    Larry McMurtry had a way of writing stories that stayed with you. Two movies by him that left a mark on me are Hud and The Last Picture Show. I’m definitely adding Archer City to my must visit list. If it wasn’t already noon, I’d head there today. Great video.

    As a long-time fan of 'The Last Picture Show,' thank you for showing us the main filming location of this movie. Too bad you weren't able to cover Ruth Popper's home, but 50 years later, it's hard to know if ir even looks the same. But it lives on in film, the way we want to remember these locations!
    Thanks again, Jordan. Great vlog as usual!

    Happy to see that you and Jah are doing well. It was nice to see Jah spring into action after seeing your friend. Precious times indeed❣️Every small town has it’s little adventures and secrets. Thanks for explaining the movie. The smallest town I lived in had 7,000 people in the mid 1970’s called Blythe California. It had smaller neighboring towns with one grocery store and some other little shops. The townspeople depended on Blythe’s businesses to survive
    like the small towns of Ripley, Palo Verde & Mesa Verde. Since Blythe was a desert town located next to the Colorado River it attracted many tourists throughout the year who enjoyed fishing, boating, water skiing, rafting etc. It was also an agricultural area dependent of the Colorado River. I only lasted 5 years living there but enjoyed the experience of getting to know and live with the small town vibe. At first the people look at you with skepticism but after they get to know you they give you their heart. ❤️The heat was too much for me to bear 110-120 degrees in summer and the pesticide spraying of the crops made me ill. So back to LA I returned but with many fond memories and new friendships. 🌈

    • @jwallen158
      @jwallen158 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Dr pepper painting on side of building is next to spur hotel.. you gotta look close but it's there under cafe painting... The building across street was torn down and is empty lot that was hooked to buildings still standing .. Been so long since I saw movie I forgotten characters names.

    • @willnoiles2001
      @willnoiles2001 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was going to say, Jordan has the wrong location for the pool hall. That building was knocked down years ago and is currently an empty lot. Although it is on the end of a series of buildings in the same position as the facade of the Royal. But it’s on the other block, as the previous commentator pointed out.
      BTW, the lady who ran the cafe, was the late, great Eileen Brennan, who would go on to get an Oscar nomination for ‘Private Benjamin’ and later an Emmy for playing Jack’s acting coach Zondra in ‘Will & Grace.’

    Thanks for covering the filming location of this great movie Jordan. It's also timely in lieu of the passing of director Peter Bogdanovich in January. What a great cast when they were all pretty much starting out in their careers. Doesn't look like the town has changed all that much since the film was made there back in the early 70s. Great Job 👍
