I always say this when new fans start their journey of "Bangtan Universe" because they get confused after a while and they don't understand why they don't understand. :)) So now I just pretty much copy/paste the same text. :) I know you were already told the order of the videos. But. The continuing storyline in the MVs is not exactly that, don't expect to watch everything like a continuous film. :) It's not like that. If you want a comparison, it's more like a huge puzzle with pieces all over the place. The basic story (let's say it's the frame of the puzzle) is the I Need You MV. Everything else, all the Notes (booklets included with physical copies of CDs with short texts like diary entries), all the other MVs, trailers, short films, etc are like puzzle pieces adding more and more details to the picture. Sometimes it's straightforward, you will understand immediately what's going on, but sometimes you will have a piece of information in your hand but you won't know where to put it until an other part of the picture is put together and all of a sudden you realize the piece you're holding will fit there. The best example is Taehyung killing that man in this MV. When the MV came out we only saw him kill somebody, nothing else. Only when the Notes for that album and his solo song's trailer came out later we found out who it was and why he stabbed him. That's how it works with all the details and information. Sometimes you will only find out the meaning of a detail four videos later. So don't worry if you can't put the story together because we still don't have all the pieces on the table. There will be new albums with new MVs and new Notes to take the story further. To be totally honest, when you finished with the MVs in the storyline the best thing you can do is watch a storyline explanation video, like xCeleste's for example. 2 parts, really detailed and well put together. Just because it's nearly impossible for new fans to catch up with around 5 years worth of materials in this topic, you would need to read all the Notes, there are clues in 15 seconds-only trailers you would never think of checking out, etc. It's just simply too much. 😁 Just an example about the importance of the different mediums you would need to go through: you saw Jungkook getting a beating in this, right? Why? You will never know if you don't read the Notes that came with the CD. It says: "Jungkook 11 April YEAR 22 I finally fulfilled my wish. When I saw the delinquents on the street I purposely bumped into them and got beaten up. I couldn't help but laugh as they beat me. My laughter lead them to call me crazy and hit me harder. I leaned against the shutters and looked at the dark sky. It was late at night. There was nothing to see in the sky. I saw grass that reminded me of how I felt- easily blown over by the wind. I felt the tears coming and purposefully made myself cry." damn, every single time I watch I need u I get surprised by how good this music video is I freaking love the juxtaposition of them being happy, but also emotionally dying inside, and of them wrestling each other for playing and taehyung literally killing someone, the bridge of the song is one of the best parts of the video I love their acting (especially jimin's on this one, his scenes are hard to watch cuz it looks so real) I love how raw and honest it is and I love how it is a more simple/normal representation of life (except for the murder lol) honestly this could be my favorite bts mv
it makes me cry !!! whenever they're together they're happy and balanced and when each one is by himself should face the turmoils and sufferings and gets into more troubles... ahhh i will not sleep tonight

Jeff fully represents me when I discovered the BU, I was so confused, until I started to see all the videos related to the bu in chronological order and I came across some explanatory videos where they completed information related to the webtoon "save me" that is directly related to the BU. And to my curious mind it was a blow to the head. The one behind all this is a genius.

They substituted girl for friend because it sounded better, but the song isn't about a girl. The lyrics aren't related to the video. The video is related to the storyline not the song itself. I am one that definitely recommends the explanation video early on.
The song always had girl in it. What you are referring to is when RM mentioned that to understand the video “friend” is more important, not that it was the original lyrics.
YEP they did their own stunts, and yes you are right - they didnt have a big budget - they used their managers as extras, and borrowed the managers cars. I think the low budget made the MV raw and so much more powerful.

When you see BTS they seem so light and fun so folks never expect how dark and heavy the BU is when you start it. The story of the 7 characters and their struggles and relationships has created kind of confusing (exceptionally?) confusing series of MVs that individually have elements that let them stand alone but you might leave confused about “why the snickers bars, Fire, and water” but can stand alone. Together it’s really interesting non linear story telling that is just fascinating. It draws people in but also tells life’s lessons as they struggle with very relatable topics that you don’t usually (ever?) tackle in pop music. I mean pop isn’t usually poverty, bullying, suicide, depression, drug overdoses, child abuse, and more. Yet for BTS these are the real challenges of youth or the so called “most beautiful moment in life”. It also how they are indeed with their friendship having beautiful happy moments together despite these things. Enjoy the journey it’s dark but if you like mysteries it’s here.
The key to going though the BU is a lot of explanation videos😭 after watching every video I had to watch multiple explanation videos and then once learning about art and literature referenced I had to look into that too. It’s a lot but so worth it. They put so much time and effort into the BU and it’s absolutely amazing. You’ll eventually start to put things together and see how all the videos are related. I think it would have been ok to tell Jeff who the girl and man are, as it doesn’t spoil anything and helps you to formulate your own theories a bit easier and understand things better. Also the fact that this song is not about a girl, it was written with the word friend but was changed to girl to make it more marketable.
BU content, but the mvideo is one of the most interesting ones from their career. And the song oh my... so good! And note that, in most of their songs a girl is never a girl literally. Or a love song is not really about a boyfriend or a girlfriend. 💜
The hotel name is in hanmun (Kanji in Japanese) , borrowed Chinese characters, but it does not have a meaning in Chinese. It is more like a family name in Japanese. So I guess it is an inn run by this family.

It's pretty fundamental to understand that the storyline doesnt focus on romance (until the Highlight Reels I guess) and "I need u girl" just gives off the wrong impression...
For once you're in the same position as like 90% of ARMY. We all have so many questions about the BU, and even with explanation videos like xCeleste's, nobody can really fully explain the entire BU. It's just too complex. XD

Enjoy the journey. Getting into the BU gave me headaches for weeks. So many questions. So many theories. I haven't completely solved the puzzle. I bet i never will haha!
When I started researching the boys, in August 2020, I was also lost with this story, notes, etc... I saw a lot of XCeleste's videos, I think her work is one of the most complete when talking about BTS, and I think your Taylor was also wonderful. In short, in my mind, BigHit and their team did a wonderful job of publicity, as they always do. They created this concept, these MV's bring a whole situation in which many young people identify themselves, doubts, anxieties, depression, fears, etc... and from there we can see how much their songs make perfect sense. I saw Suga's note, I cried, they created a concept so real that it touches the soul. The title of the album also has everything to do with it, really the most beautiful moment of our lives is the time of adolescence, where we are learning to know ourselves, and apprehensive about what is to come. Well, that's how I understood it, and it's fine with me, no complications.

When you see BTS they seem so light and fun so folks never expect how dark and heavy the BU is when you start it. The story of the 7 characters and their struggles and relationships has created kind of confusing (exceptionally?) confusing series of MVs that individually have elements that let them stand alone but you might leave confused about “why the snickers bars, Fire, and water” but can stand alone. Together it’s really interesting non linear story telling that is just fascinating. It draws people in but also tells life’s lessons as they struggle with very relatable topics that you don’t usually (ever?) tackle in pop music. I mean pop isn’t usually poverty, bullying, suicide, depression, drug overdoses, child abuse, and more. Yet for BTS these are the real challenges of youth or the so called “most beautiful moment in life”. It also how they are indeed with their friendship having beautiful happy moments together despite these things. Enjoy the journey it’s dark but if you like mysteries it’s here.
The key to going though the BU is a lot of explanation videos😭 after watching every video I had to watch multiple explanation videos and then once learning about art and literature referenced I had to look into that too. It’s a lot but so worth it. They put so much time and effort into the BU and it’s absolutely amazing. You’ll eventually start to put things together and see how all the videos are related. I think it would have been ok to tell Jeff who the girl and man are, as it doesn’t spoil anything and helps you to formulate your own theories a bit easier and understand things better. Also the fact that this song is not about a girl, it was written with the word friend but was changed to girl to make it more marketable.

BU content, but the mvideo is one of the most interesting ones from their career. And the song oh my... so good! And note that, in most of their songs a girl is never a girl literally. Or a love song is not really about a boyfriend or a girlfriend. 💜
The hotel name is in hanmun (Kanji in Japanese) , borrowed Chinese characters, but it does not have a meaning in Chinese. It is more like a family name in Japanese. So I guess it is an inn run by this family.

I don’t think it would be fun to watch the explanation video now. I think watching all the videos and making those connects are fun. Then when you watch the explanation video, you can see if you were right or not. But there’s also watching the explanation then watching the videos. So you can be like ahhh I remember that from that.

Welcome to the rabbit hole🐰💜 Ah, I wish someone would give a heads up to the people starting BU with "I need u" to not focus so much on connecting the lyrics to the video, given how we know the lyrics changed and the overall context... It's pretty fundamental to understand that the storyline doesnt focus on romance (until the Highlight Reels I guess) and "I need u girl" just gives off the wrong impression...
For once you're in the same position as like 90% of ARMY. We all have so many questions about the BU, and even with explanation videos like xCeleste's, nobody can really fully explain the entire BU. It's just too complex. XD
i hope you’ll react to all the storyline music videos and short films before watching the explanation video, i believe that watching it just after the beginning of the bu kind of take the fun of discovering it away
Jeff is all of us going into BU. But it would be great if he can first watch all the videos in chronological order and then see the explanation as I feel as a filmmaker and storyteller he would enjoy that more. But of course, he can go down this rabbit hole his own way.

I am an 1 yr old army and still dont have the courage to start the BU stuff. They have too many things to explore. Good for you Jeff.
When I started researching the boys, in August 2020, I was also lost with this story, notes, etc... I saw a lot of XCeleste's videos, I think her work is one of the most complete when talking about BTS, and I think your Taylor was also wonderful.
In short, in my mind, BigHit and their team did a wonderful job of publicity, as they always do.
They created this concept, these MV's bring a whole situation in which many young people identify themselves, doubts, anxieties, depression, fears, etc... and from there we can see how much their songs make perfect sense.
I saw Suga's note, I cried, they created a concept so real that it touches the soul.
The title of the album also has everything to do with it, really the most beautiful moment of our lives is the time of adolescence, where we are learning to know ourselves, and apprehensive about what is to come.
Well, that's how I understood it, and it's fine with me, no complications.
