    Glad that you love it. We changed over in April and it was a game changer for towing.

    I've had mine for a couple years, it is great much smoother ride and saves so much room over the slider hitch in my short bed.

    Man you got balls shortening those safety chains like that.

    • @thisisouradventure

      Thanks for watching. Yeah I had them to short at first and almost ripped the anchor out of the bed of my truck! I have them at the correct length now and have not had any more issues with the chains being to short. It was almost a costly mistake, one of those you live and learn moments in life lol.

    I wouldnt mind trying a gooseneck to save space in truck but the chains look like a pain in the ass. I have a companion hitch, its heavy and take up a bunch of space but it has worked great for 4 years, zero chucking. Larry

      Yeah the chains are a little bit of a PITA I had to get a step so I could get up in the bed to hook them. But I love it because it gave me back to the whole truck bed! Which is nice for tools I need as a certified RV Technician.

    Do you have plenty of room between the hitch & bed cover rails on sharp turns ? Thx & happy new year

    • @thisisouradventure

      Yes we have plenty of room between the bed cover rails. In fact the hitch made everything sit a little higher than the original kingpin which is nice. Thanks for watching.

    Nice hitch! I though Lippert would void the frame warranty if you changed out the pin box to a gooseneck unless it was the Reese pinbox?

    • @thisisouradventure

      Gen-Y recently got approved by Lippert for their frame and pin-box. I was worried about that as well and asked and did research before getting it installed. Thank you for watching.

  • @patriot8087

    What about the added weight and the lower or different center of gravity putting added stress on the frame of the fifth wheel ? secondly, could this cause the frame of the fifth wheel to bend or even crack and fail like we are now learning about the Lippert frames are experiencing?, I have heard Lippert will not warrantee fifth wheel with there frames when using the the Gen-Y pin box and hitch. please add some clarity to this if you can.

    • @thisisouradventure

      So the way the hitch is made the torsion flex really doesn't change the center of gravity. I feel this hitch has actually helped save our RV on multiple occasions because of the terrible roads. I cannot speak to the frame flexing or cracking as that is not a known issue with Alliance RV Lippert frames. Thank you for watching.

    Looks like you have an Alliance 31RL, if so what size hitch did you get? Great video!

    • @thisisouradventure

      We actually have the Alliance 385FL which is pretty heavy so we went with the 5.5K Pin Weight hitch. We had some friends with the 340RL and originally had the 4.5K Pin Weight hitch and had to upgrade to the 5.5K hitch after the break-in period. I would recommend if you are going to get the Gen-Y hitch get the next size up. Thanks for watching.

    • @ksblk404

      @@thisisouradventure That's good to know. We've got a 340RL and I was thinking of ordering the 4.5k, At the GVWR of 16500, the pin weight should be about 3600lbs. It seems like even the 4.5k would be overkill. Not sure why Gen-y rates them the way they do if you have to go up two sizes for it to be correct.

    • @thisisouradventure

      @@ksblk404 yeah I'm not sure what the actual pin weight of our friends RV is I know they had the smaller 4.5K and after the break in period the hitch was no longer in the green area on the hitch itself and Gen-Y had recommended to them to upgrade to the 5.5K hitch.

    the only advantage of a goose-neck over a normal fiver hitch, is the goose-neck is great for driving on the lesser dirt roads or in a farm field were articulation is needed.
    but if you buy a side to side tilt fifth wheel hitch it become same-o.
    over 40 years of working with the fifth wheel hitches (yes commercial size). never seen one fail. even when a train hit the loaded truck.
    0 time around the farm stuff.

    • @thisisouradventure

      Thank you for watching. Yeah the man reason we went to the goose-neck style is to get my bed back when we are sitting still in a campground. Because our business as a RV tech and Inspector I need to carry tools and parts and the fifth wheel hitch was a PITA to take in and our or move around to allow for the space.

  • @coevers1962

    Did you consider goosebox as well?

    • @thisisouradventure

      Thanks for watching. Yes I did but the new 3rd generation that will fit for our 5th wheel is twice as much as the Gen-Y hitch. Also because Reece had just released the new hitch there wasn't a lot of information on that particular hitch whereas I knew a bunch of people who had the Gen-Y on their Alliance 5th wheel and they were really happy with it.

    • @thisisouradventure

      We actually have some friends with a short bed who have this hitch. They have a plate system that centers the ball in the right location, in fact I think they have a better turning radius now with the Gen-Y. Thanks for watching.

  • @larryjanson4011

    might want to rethink your safety chains. as in front mount them not to the rear of the hitch (movement thing). but mostly the way your hooks face. place them ware the thicker part will get the stress when the hitch fails. NOT the open side as that is a fail point to a hook.
    look into heavy duty recovery to understand this.
