Cut from the same cloth as Sendak. And he's not wrong to be worried about the psychological well being of our children. Simplicity is key to discover yourself and gain confidence to grow up in the world. We have abandoned principals of life that have served our species for millenia. That does not bode well.
I wonder if he’s spent a lot of time in France/Europe, his accent sounds more Parisian than it does New York. That could just be me though. Great interview :)
Nah, no live action film .... they'd ruin the show's soul and heart, make it crammed with pop culture references from the past decade, add pop songs and other gunk we don't need. We have the show, a weird and special gem of cartoon television history; that's enough for me.
John is my childhood hero! And my adult life! I had somebody make me burnt DVDs because I been wanting to watch Courage since it stopped airing around early 2000s! It was my absolute favorite show! And at 34 I can say I've raised my daughter on it, who is 12 now, we watched it every night when she was younger and shes wanting to rewatch it all again now, so we been chilling out at night rewatching all the episodes! It's one show I can rewatch every episode over n over again! You have no idea how much I love Courage! I love all the old Nickelodeon cartoons like Rockos Modern Life, Agghhh Real Monsters, ugh they were the best cartoons! I cant get into all this new Netflix shows n real life shows, I'll be 80yrs old and still watch my old cartoons!😍 thank you for your work!
I too lived through being bullied through school. It's the classic creative people treatment I think. The ones who don't fall in line stick out the most, easy target for others' frustrations. Today, I pity the bullies, realizing the abuse in their own family, environment.
Glad I stumbled upon this. Really interesting and thoughtful guy and your grounded questions gave a great balance to a sometimes dizzying interview. Great job all around
You did a great job with this sit down interview. I was in my early 20s when Courage was on television originally so I really didn't watch it as much as I should have as I now would probably watch it if it were "new" so to speak. But again thanks for sharing great work.
Dude I'm 34 n I watch it constantly! I wish it wasnt on Boomerang tho, wish it was on Paramount with all the other good 90s Nickelodeon cartoons like Rockos Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Celebrity Death Match...that's all i watch is 90s cartoons, i hate real tv😂 I also had someone burn me DVDs of all the Courage Epispdes like 8 years ago because i couldnt find it anywhere n if was always my favorite show...i had the Freaky Fred episode taped on a vhs tape 😂 this man is my hero! Wish he made more episodes or put it on something other than Boomerang

Ok Courage the Cowardly Dog was one of my favorite cartoons and at the time I was a teenager as an adult I still love that cartoon....!!! Maybe a good one would be the creator of the Garbage Pale Kids the animated series, Biker Mice from Mars, Gargoyles endless possibilities....
Thank you so much for the suggestions, I will look into them - I have one coming out in a couple of months with the creator of Ugly Americans this OG comedy central show, its amazing if you have not seen that show!

39:00 my whole elementary and middle and high school classes never where races or picking on people rudely only when they felt like they had real beef. The way how me and my generation did it was basically right away you challenge bullies stand your ground quick against mean bullies as tall as you can. Its the only way I can describe it I helped stopped a bully it was great he called me weak for telling him to shut up and as soon as the teacher went out the door i grabbed him in choke hold to make him tap and never bully any one again cause I Said be chill with every one or its happening worst next time. lol just had to make sure teacher did not see in certain lower grade teachers will step out during nasty moments so if there to rude they might step out for 10 -20 secs. enough to make someone tap lol she walked back in every one laughing him gasping for air me sitting down on other side of room just starring at him not to mean mug but to pray he was not about to snitch. So I was popular and my friends and they all did the same as me stood up for the ground you gotta walk on. and we kept it peaceful all through out only little girl drama FEW very few cheating problems and ..? IDK half went on to there dreams other half or little bit less than half got stuck in town.
being popular was key with good life moto wanting to fight for pure good. we hung out with every one so no one broke the rules. at least I imagine that is why every one kept that way cause it was like most people wanted it that way.?
There's no way it would come close to the original Cartoon Network show's charm and macabre whimsy. They'd screw it up. Just watch the orig 102 animated tales that were created.
Am I crazy, or was John kinda subtly condescending and cranky in this interview? Can’t put my finger on it. Maybe he didn’t jive with the interviewer, but it’s there through the whole thing. I’m not just looking to complain, I really like the guy, but he had an “arms crossed” energy he doesn’t have in other interviews. The interviewer did a great job pushing through, and got him to open up despite all that though. I expect some pushback on this, but I know I’m not the only one picking up on it.
Yeah he doesn't seem invested in this interview at all (i can't blame him) i don't know how many people she's interviewed but she's a drag to listen to here. Like she just shotguns out questions in the same monotone voice, and doesn't seem interested at all in his work.
He seems like he was tough to interview. Like he wanted to be the one leading everything and was reluctant to share real information about himself. What a dork.
He's dealing with a bad interviewer, dudes crossing his arms from the beginning is not a good sign. She doesn't seem interested in the topic and just rambles in a nagging voice.
