I WANT THE ROCORD TO SHOW THAT DORING THE DIFFICULT STRUGGLE IN MY LIFE AS A LAW STUDENT AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY, DR. HOWARD THURMAN SENT ME A CHECK FOR ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Always, I will show my appreciation for his free Gift.
It most certainly is Howard Thurman speaking. I was very fortunate to have him as the chaplain all the time I was at Boston University as an undergraduate. His sermons were amazing, and his voice really carries you along with him. He I knew in person; the other one that I admire is Rufus Jones, older than Thurman, someone that Thurman also learned a lot from. I am currently reading 10 Thurman and 10 Rufus Jones books. They work very well together.
such clarity of thought for a man to speak so eloquently coming from the segregated south being born in 1899 his words are so timeless and speak to every man's condition and purpose on this earth as he said "When you and God become one then all of life's resources will flow unto you" wow what a powerful statement
dr. Thurman lets us know that the interweb of quantum entanglement is not the sum total of Who We Are. But if we take that inner journey into self that exploration will uncover the untapped Genius of self, and the purpose that was made for us, not us for the purpose.
Jaygresh, there ARE more akin to him. There are you, and me and everyone else who turns and turns and turns to align again and again with the divine. Blessings!
Arias, Thanks ... I purchased the book and read it several times.it was GREAT! He was obviously a man of great depth, intellect and experience. A true elder of humanity and I would certainly counsel others to read it it, Cheers ... Steve
Thanks, Joyce. I grew up in Daytona Beach, and it's neat to think that Howard Thurman and I played in the same river during our chilhood years, only 55 years apart! Next time I'm in Daytona I'm going to go by his old homeplace.
Howard Washington Thurman (November 18, 1899 - April 10, 1981) was an African-American author, philosopher, theologian, educator, and civil rights leader. As a prominent religious figure, he played a leading role in many social justice movements and organizations of the twentieth century. Thurman's theology of radical nonviolence influenced and shaped a generation of civil rights activists, and he was a key mentor to leaders within the movement, including Martin Luther King, Jr. Thurman served as dean of Rankin Chapel at Howard University from 1932 to 1944 and as dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University from 1953 to 1965. In 1944, he co-founded, along with Alfred Fisk, the first major interracial, interdenominational church in the United States. Howard Thurman died on April 10, 1981 in San Francisco, California.
Stephen... Howard Thurman has an autobiography entitled "With Head and Heart" that you might want to look into. And if you would like more mediations like these there is an audio series available called "The Living Wisdom of Howard Thurman: A Visionary of Our Time". Hope this helps. Peace.
The great mystic Howard Thurman, ask the fundamental question we should be asking ourselves with all of the struggling, striving, wind break around us, economic power, for fame, certain kind of honor.... memory preserved... "What do I really want... making me bring to bear upon a single focus.
It certainly sounds like him. My understanding is that he did these throughout his life. And yes, it is his voice we are hearing. And his voice brings back so many memories.
Wow. “If (man) is able…to say “Yes” with all of himself to the thing which to him is more important than whether he lives or dies, whether he succeeds or fails; if he is able to say “Yes,“ then the resources of life begin to move towards him.”
Arias ... What one book about Howard Thurman that would discuss both his life and his teachings? Also, how could I get a video copy of the link that no longer appears "The Moment of my High Resolve? It was there couple with two other medications. Thank you ...
"Head and Heart: The Autobiography of Howard Thurman" and I would also recommend his book "Jesus and the Disinherited". Martin Luther King, Jr. read this book during his first period of activity in the black freedom struggle in the late 1950's.
