      Those drugs aren’t used to hasten the death but to relieve the pain of the individual

    So is there a difference between Euthanasia’s definition and that of assisted suicide?

    Hi Adam, not sure if you can help but I’m interviewing some people on their opinion on legalising euthanasia of terminally ill. What would a deontology view/person and a consequential say? I’m still bit confused . Also, great video :)

    • @EddieEducation
      @EddieEducation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for asking (I hope I'm not too late for you).
      A consequentialist would look at what creates the best outcomes, and would consider each case individually before deciding what is appropriate. As for deontologists, it depends on which acts they consider to be inherently right or wrong. If they believe preserving life is inherently right, they'd avoid euthanasia; if they believe preserving dignity is the main objective, they may support it.
      Unfortunately, this doesn't give a clean cut answer, but may illustrate how each approach would view the topic.

    Euthanasia isn't only passive. You're ignoring the active/passive distinction that medical ethicists often make in introductions to the topic...

    • @EddieEducation
      @EddieEducation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment, Tom. You are correct that I do not use the term "active" euthanasia. However, this is because it is generally assumed that euthanasia is active, unless specified, including by medical professionals. This is also why the OCR exam board does not use the term 'active euthanasia'.
      You'll note that I address various aspects of actively ending life in this video, as well as passive ones, so I think the suggestion that I am ignoring this distinction isn't strictly fair.
      If you do find it difficult to identify which aspects of euthanasia are active or passive, however, I would gladly signpost them for you in this video.

      @@EddieEducation Hey, thanks for the reply! This was such an old video that I didn't expect to hear back, much less so soon. My misunderstanding may reflect differences in curriculum. I am in the US and in the textbooks and articles I see, it's one of the first distinctions they make and emphasize. I was expecting to see it written on the board, but your reply satisfies me! So thanks!

      @@m12327 No problem at all - there are often differences between UK terminology and that which is used in the US, or other countries. I'm glad that this has helped though, good luck with your studies!

    Although historically Christianity has in a way glorified suffering and things to induce suffering like self injury to satisfy the need to be cleansed of their sin

    In regards to the comment someone made about ending Homosexuality can you instead pray to end Homo phobia, please? Even the pope has said that it’s important to show those who are Homo Sexual the love and respect that every person deserves
