@@Sm0ke821 as for now DIV only suffers from bad pricing. IF you were to get one of the upgraded editions you always have the battle pass without paying ever again. I think its hardly comparable to something demanding reccuring costs. Not saying im specifically hyped for DIV, but its monetization seems to be less worse than the rest for now. I played closed beta and am not sure if I should spend 80 euros on that game tbh

Idk if you read the AMA from the European guy that's been botting since 2004, but he's basically saying the token is going to increase the demand for gold. Just like last time, it's going to make botting more profitable for him because people will buy his gold to get tokens for game time. His problem is never the price of gold, it's a lack of buyers. Blizzard is forcing more buyers to go to him with this change.

runescape is a good example, some people are too lazy to do daily gold farms so they pay for third party gold to buy bonds(wow tokens) for game time for less then jagex offers. people in wow already sold wow tokens for classic gold in the first week of classic launch. think i remember 1 token being worth less then 100g lmao

Majority player base did care about WoW token in the first place. That's why we quit all Blizzard games :)
asmon reminds me of my uncle when i was in the army in 2010. He would talk about the army during the 1980s when he was in but really didn't know what he was talking about because he was only in for 2 years, things have changed, and he forgot alot of stuff. You can tell Asmon doesn't even play wow, so he's kinda out of touch with alot of stuff.

The wow token to me as someone who quit the game during bfa is like putting a monetary value to how much your time is worth while playing the game to support your in-game needs. I was playing this game to immerse myself and disconnect from reality, seeing a dollar sign in game in any capacity to me ruins the experience that mmo's provide, immersion aside my interest in the game dwindles the moment I see that I'm not only not earning money while playing the game, but really does seem like I'm wasting my time and essentially money. I like it when the game is wasting my time when I am not reminded that it is.
Yah I was always able to steer passed it. Like, I will earn my own fucking gold within the game doing in game activities. And I feel the same way with levels. I earn my own levels by playing tha game. I dunno, play the game in such an unrecognizable way anyways, in both retail and classic. Like, I actually play the game. Discover flight paths. Earn levels. Etc. It doesn't really affect me to much because I am a softcore wow player, and I always have been to. It sucks more for hardcore players, who are into world firsts and all that. When you see other people just paying to skip over stuff you worked for. It kind of ruins the appeal for those players.
I only really care about my own progression. Even in retail, I stick to the dungeons, exploration exp and questing exp. That is it. No pet battles. No PVP. Nothing else in terms of gaining exp. I also don't spam dungeons in retail either. I usually do each dungeon once or twice. And then I do the quest areas to. And I don't move on till it's all done. Some people don't see the point when you have to recreate the game to such an extreme degree like I do though.
I still remember lvling my monk in BFA, and I leveled to lvl 20 with just a 1 handed sword in my main hand. Because, back in the day, you had to be lvl 20 to dual wield. So I just pretended that I couldn't dual wield. It added that layer of progression back in.
Gods I hate the take that gaming is "wasting" your time. That's entirely subjective. It could be said that workaholics who spend every waking moment trying to make money waste their lives because they never stop to smell the roses. In the end, life is short and we all face the same fate in the end. If you have fun gaming, it's no more a waste of time than skiing, watching a movie or reading a book.
Narrowing what is and isn't a waste of time down to monetary value is depressing. Though, as I said, it's all subjective.
To be honest everyone expected to see WoW token coming after they had put TBC mount pack.
Who cares about mounts? They're purely for cosmetics you can sell mounts for gold.

@@Croach193 Talking about private servers isn't cutting off communication. The people who play private servers are wow fans. And Blizz has been unable to provide an experience those fans want and this have seemed it out elsewhere.
It's up to Blizz to communicate with their game's fans, even if the fans are in revolt, playing competing servers.
If Blizz stops interacting with a large reddit community for their game because some fans of the game say they found a better way to play said game, then it's Blizz being lazy, insecure, and burning the communication bridge.

Private servers don't require paying the intellectual property owner. That's why companies don't like copyright violations, cost them $. Speech censorship on platforms Blizz doesn't own is a whole separate issue.
The /r/classicwow mods haven't heard from Blizzard in years. They just admitted that. They didn't severe any relationship because one didn't really exist.

GDKP would be so much better without gold buying wowtokens or otherwise, because as it stands now an avg player can't afford much to anything, without frist joining 1-3 other GDKP and leeching, to get the gold at the end.

Why would that be? Is it because the paid service Blizzard offers is shit that's not worth it? Maybe the solution Blizzard should be looking for is to improve their service, not to demand censorship of open discussion.

I haven’t played WoW since Vanilla and haven’t had a gaming PC for over a decade. I get my Warcraft nostalgia fix vicariously through watching Asmon but the recent classic hardcore craze has gotten me so hyped I’ve been actively looking for a rig to play on. But thanks to this news I suppose I can save myself a chunk of change

@@Urbish-v3t i actually like the token, bc im the 1% of wrath players that dont buy gold from the Chinese sites that have deals with blizzard and also sell your data lol. to suggest blizzard arnt also scammers is pretty funny. we cant buy 30days of game with our bnet balance anymore, we have to get 60+, and you need sub time to actually buy the token for gold on wotlk. not to mention their other projects like OW2. id say there are actually private servers that are less scammy than blizzard at this point.
I prefer other players buying gold from robots who later commit fraud with their financial information over everyone being able to buy gold through a legitimate source or to be able to pay their subscription by farming gold. I don’t play WoW, but this is my perspective. Maybe WoW token free servers could be a thing.
Carries for gold and gdkps arent bad at its core. The problem is however that litterally every carry in existence is connected to either scamming, RMT or both.

Blizzard is cynical and calculating, they timed the wow token to be early enough to hit the peak raid content of the expansion, but after people had already committed with 6-12 month subs, so they don't need to care about resubs. They will wait until all the people who care about the integrity of D4 have already bought it. Once they think they have captured that audience and already gotten their money, they will discard them like a used tissue paper and go for the whales. D4 will only be non p2w on launch. The SECOND they have "used" that market they will shift D4 to a p2w model.

you guys should try to play a real rmt game, lmao you dont know how good you have it with blizzard - you just dont know very much about gaming at large. Only a non-trading game will have nothing to buy for real money because anything that has a real value and can be traded will lead to people buying/selling it.
It’s so easy to buy “illegal gold” as Asmon mentioned without getting banned.
Have the purchased gold be sent to a burner account (which will eventually get banned), once that gold arrives, deposit it into the guild bank of your main. Log on your main and withdraw it. Stock up on gold sent to the burner, then cancel the subscription until it’s time to re-up.
I did this for GDKPs in TBC and main account never got banned. Much cheaper than WoW token too.
Also still cheaper $20 for 8k I can get that for half on g2g

Imagine if only there was a way to check on players currency and realize you just got 20M out of the blue. I guess technology hasn't reached that far yet.

The problem with GDKP's in classic is that people who are the carrys are 100% RMT'ing. I know someone that is dropping 320k for shards in Ulduar.
What bridge was there? Blizzard never asked "the community" if they should add WoW tokens, they just did it. They didn't ask if they should scrap the PvE in overwatch and just focus on the PvP, they just did it.

The simple truth is the WoW token makes them so much money, it's worth the bad press. They days of the Blizzard logo being a stamp of quality is gone, its now a company with profits first, gameplay second. rip.

Baffles me that some people think this doesn't matter with the logic that "Well you don't have to buy gold so I won't and its fine!" Like you don't realise that you don't need to buy gold for this to affect you because there are X many spots in a Raid and if someone else is better geared than you good luck getting that spot.
I don't care about the token. I get a raid spot. Because I've been progressing with a guild since wolk launch.
GDKP's and resulting RMT makes a WoW economy hyperproduce. It generates the need for people to generate more gold through ingame action than they otherwise would. so yes... It does generate gold.

I can't think of any good argument supporting that game ruining tactic. Killing boars, to pay for top gear (so you are a "hero"), is miserable.
Edit: That's if everyone can pay and be invited to a Naxx raid. Let's say a green geared fresh 60 level player. If all players there, are well equipped and experienced, then it is a different story. Maybe there is no other way for a PUG.

Maybe Blizzard is actually the one Creating the bots! That’s why they don’t ban them and there are always more bots. Now with the WoW token Blizzard is “giving up” but they really are double dipping with the token AND bots 🤯 makes too much sense to not be true
And now we see the actual reason bots have not been banned this whole time. Long con for a wow token in classic, exactly as was foretold day one of classic reveal and release. As if a single person would believe they couldn't easily handle bots at any point IF they wanted after watching single digit amounts of programmers do it effectively on private servers for a decade.
For me, the WoW token is more insidious that it appears at first glance. Without the WoW token, Blizzard had incentive to crack down on bots farming gold to put pressure on RMT. With the WoW token, a major crack down on bots would reduce the gold flow into the economy, drop the gold return per token, making the token appear less of an appealing investment.
Say goodbye to everyone who used to play wow classic. I know I was thinking about wow classic before I clicked this video, now I'm not thinking about wow classic anymore.

yeah it's hilarious how asmongold randomly has horrendous takes but because of his stubbornness thinks there must be some intelligent reason why because he has it in his head that he's smart and has good opinions. GDKP literally destroys the game, period, no discussion. it opens the door for bots and gold farmers to start their business and floods the server with tons of gold which in turn inflates the economy, and completely ruins the experience of people who try to play without purchasing it. prices go up and ppl buying gold can just soak up consumables and if enough ppl do it, ppl who dont buy can't afford them.
the prices in GDKPS become so absurd that no one other than people who sell GDKPS or people who buy gold can afford them. and it completely destroys the spirit of the game. unfortunately there has always been a portion of toxic players that don't care, that's why a strong community driven server that cares about this issue is the only solution.
Can we just think a little bit here, from a business standpoint, they look at where the revenue is coming from. « Oh it seems, whatever we put to buy in the game, people are buying it and generate revenue »
So what are we gonna do ? Generate more revenue !

Exactly this. It's a business. Integrity is no longer a part of the equation with large corporations. All that matters is more money, for more marketing to promote shit to make more money before competition can. Sadness. Peoples nostalgia keep them coming back. Have to bite the bullet, except that those old days are over, and it's time to move on and support more honest developers.

Blizzard is like a farmer who charges a cow for the pleasure of being milked, and then sells the milk back to the cow at a premium.
You can also just join a guild and raid 2 hours a night for two nights and actually enjoy the game instead of trying to "win" as fast as possible.

Been on private servers since 2015. That's where classic plus has always been.
I reactivated for classic, I did not buy Shadowlands, I did not buy Dragonflight, I did not but TBC bundle, but I bought a character copy, and transfer. If classic era realms ever become more monetized than they are now, Blizzard will not get any more money from me. I am not alone,

FFXIV 100%. I left WoW after 16 years and am never going back. Playing FFXIV from beginning to end over 9 months was hands down the single greatest gaming experience of my life. Just don't play it like you do WoW. Play it casually and treat it like an RPG that has MMO elements.
Depends on what type of game you want. There are so many.
Guild Wars 2 if you like a more chill and laid back experience without much obligatory grind, FF14 if you want something closer to wow-style progression

You know what probably happened, after the Activision Blizzard - Microsoft merge was denied (thank fuck), Bobby Kotick probably started foaming at the mouth and yelling at every department to start making more money to offset the fall of the merging in a fit of rage. I imaging in my head: Bobby Kotick, but photoshopped to look like the Joker.
If the merger fails, which it hasn’t, Acti is getting a ton of money from Microsoft for the failure.

What really sucks is how they'll say that HC is a failure because of this boneheaded move.
How do you truly combat wolves(bots) it's not by killing(banning) the wolves(bots). No that will only get few of them and more will be born in future to replace the ones that got killed(banned). The best way to combat wolves(bots) is to go after the rabbits(gold buyers). Less rabbits(gold buyers) means less wolves(bots) to deal with because there are less rabbits(gold buyers) to feed the wolves(bots).
I just want a WoW with no changes. One that isn't going to be taken down by Blizz or now is changed by Blizz themselves

How to find out bots.
Log all trades. See if one players always trades the same amounts of gold and never takes something in return. Take action against the seller and buyer.
You can also add other variables to check. Do these characters always run the same route from the starting point; do they not complete any quests; does not a single character on the account actually does any progression in the game?

Was gonna play HC on official servers, but even though this has nothing to do with that directly, I can't support Blizzard by paying a sub, it's just unethical and shit like this will just keep happening if people keep paying. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they released an extra life token to keep playing after death or something stupid like that. Remember when Blizzard said WoW token would never come to classic? Yea, don't take any promises they give seriously EVER.
Its easy to stop the gold selling in its tracks if Blizz wants to! But they choose not to do it.
Any simple accounting program can pick pick up serious fluctuations in a characters income. Including trying to use the AH to launder gold! More complex accounting programs are used in real life to see peoples income, where they worked and how they got their money in real life LOL!
This is just a video game and it would not be hard at all!!
I am going out on a limb here but I believe that there are 2 main reasons Blizz ( or someone there ) doesn’t want to stop it or wants to be indifferent towards it.
Someone there is directly involved or indirectly involved with the gold selling/bots.
Someone there is looking the other way. (Bots mean more subscriptions!)
Both 1 and 2 is an additional income stream.
The best example I could use is a company or LLC that makes radar guns for the police to use for speed traps. The same company or LLC has another entity that makes radar detectors for public use lol! They make money on both ends.

We were gambling while raiding MC during WoW Classic and I had the wild itch to just randomly quit the game, so I put down 1,200 gold on a roulette and said if I lost I'd just unsub. I won double my bet and then quit the game anyway a few days later after realizing just how bad the bots had gotten by that point. I can't even imagine how bad it is now.
Bliz just wants to run all their games into the ground like they did starcraft, that way they can downsize and just reap profits off candy crush
Honestly i think its because their internet bills for running battlenet are unsustainable, hence why battlenet has been terribly laggy to play on for years and years; it only seems to get worse despite declining player numbers.

If blizzard decided to not make any changes to wrath classic from the get go I would have a different opinion on this. However. They have made a lot of changes to the game which overall Ive not had a problem with. The same goes with the wow token. I played wrath back in the day when I had more time to play and loved grinding gold and playing all the content but now I don’t have the time but still want to enjoy the raiding experiences which so far have been really fun. I don’t need to buy a wow token but if it keeps players still wanting to do the raid content but dont want to play the grindy parts of the game anymore or don’t have the time then what’s the problem ?. Just play the game how you want to.
As someone who legitimately farmed 15-20k gold during the wotlk prepatch and then another 10-15k from 70 to 80 this is honestly kinda disheartening, It took a serious amount of time for me to farm that and it turns out i could have just waited and forked over 80 dollars.
When they said the AH mount was leaving the game, so many people spent hundreds on tokens to afford the mount
Anyone know if the Token is capped @9k?....it dropped from 16k gold down to only 9000 right now on morgraine - feels like blizzard are trying to protect their investment of raw gold because if a token was say 1000 gold nobody is buying that token @$20, Besides people with large amounts of gold for investing in the future.

Most people buy gold to do GDKP's therefore it is against TOS to buy 3rd party gold which people do then gets injected into GDKP's.
If blizzard added npcs with high tier gear that cost a lot they could burn off a lot of excess gold in the game
kinda happened in eso too, the carry market rocketed the cost of everything to the moon.

I feel like the guy in this video (not Asmon) misunderstands how GDKP's run / are worked. On Mankrik, the top GDKP servers have -hundreds- of players looking to do runs. It's not a fear or worry, in any capacity, that "someone will run out of gold" and that you're milking them too much because there are so many buyers that can be lined up.
RMP was already there. Blizzard just wants to be the one making a profit from it. Issue is, if gold sellers offer 50k gold for $5 and Blizzard sells gold for 10k gold for $20...the RMT outside of Blizz still thrives.
Tbh I don’t see why anyone is too upset… players have been buying gold left and right in classic. The gdkp runs have been infested with gold buyers

GDKP does increase the amount of Gold. Not directly, but since people need it, it means they need to farm it more. I got nearly all my chars decked out with MC Items on a private Server. And the total amount of gold i earned on the Entire account is around 1500. With 10 charaacters. That is simply not possible if GDKP is the norm and each run demands that you have at least 3k to spent just to get the Invite. You need to farm like crazy, and if everyone farms gold, the amount od Gold on the Server increases in comparision to other Servers without GDKP.

What’s so unthinkable or so impossible that people didn’t expect this. When the game is developed by a corporation that hasn’t hired a employee based on their ability while focusing on the persons value to the company. Rather they put aside qualities like experience in game development and hire based on color of their skin, if as toddlers they had their genitals filleted and used to fill up bags of their skin so their teacher doesn’t have their parents arrested for for denying the idea the teacher groomed into them. So the decision to fuck something up is no surprise when it’s developed by the generation of people who fuck up everyrhing and haven’t gotten anything right yet.
You knew before everything was either cheating or effort.
Now you have to add in the plausibility of purchase, to every single thing you see that can be abstracted to gold.
No matter what excuse or rationale you find, this does not improve the player experience.
It has no vector of improving it, you are now more aware of your wallet in a fantasy game than ever.
Does gold make you win? No. Buying it makes you lazy OR value your time. But, people spend time making money. So they spent time in the gold they bought.
I was a buyer, the raid leader just does "gold checks" before GDKP runs start.

Even as a "hardcore" player, I couldn't possibly care less about the token. I don't buy gold and I raid with my guild which isn't a GDKP. It has 0 effect on me.
