  • Steelhead guide and casting instructor Trevor Covich offers some pointers on how to make an effective upstream Perry Poke Skagit cast. He touches on the importance of making a body twist and of simply letting your rod tip drop on the poke. This cast is enhanced with the use of a Commando Head. See more videos at pureskagit.com...

    This and the downstream video are probably the two best casting lessons I've ever seen. Really good explanation of the goals of the cast, how to achieve them, and how to make the most of everything. Also appreciate you covering common mistakes. Learned a few things that I can apply to other spey casts as well. Thanks!

    Trevor this are the only casts I use and actually work for me and helped me learn Spey casting 90 % of the time with skagit lines including the Opst ones , thank you so much

    Hey Trevor, great vid. For those of us who struggle to 'get there', knowing what line and tip you are casting helps explain the process. For us newbies, line and tip description helps a ton with each video.
    thanks

    Been practicing this for about two weeks, I have been double hauling for redfish in Louisiana for the past 10 years. It's been very difficult not allowing my D loop to come out of the water and having my line follow it. I'm slowing trying to brake the habit and keep my D loop with trailing line still in water

    Great tips and presentation. One question: in your OPST recommendation chart for 8wt swich you would recommend 325 grain. Here you are using 450. Is it depending on the rod action? Greetings

    • @OPSkagit
      @OPSkagit  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is dependant on rod action, although I don't believe we recommend a 325 for an 8wt Switch.

    Great stuff. You mentioned not wearing your rain jacket. I am physically incapable of fishing with any type of jacket apart from a waistcoat! They're just far too restricting. Perhaps OPST could do a 'how to fish in a wading jacket tutorial'! I'd rather throw a good line and get wet!

      Does that mean it's wet or dry?! I live in North East England which means it rains pretty much all the time! We don't get great weather over here! I often come back from the river like a drowned rat! As long as I'm fishing, I'm happy!

    This is more like my basic snap t cast haha. I was hoping to see a way up stream cast. Having fished the Rogue river for the past 8 years. 70% of my fish seem to be caught on a straight across cast or up river cast. I hook some on a down river cast or 45* cast if you will. But it does not produce fish like the across river or up river cast does. Also flies get down deeper when the cast is up river more. Basic physics. Fact is think out of the box for steelhead and numbers will follow.
