When I had my first customer I didn't know if I needed to put her 3 dependents plus her (4) in the box you put "5" or if I was supposed to put 1 because she was applying only for herself. I figured it out on my own but I'm glad you covered it here. It's a common question when it's your first application and you are on your own.
If you indicate that she is an immigrant, you can have a $0 income and still get the tax credit. The quote doesn’t show it, but that’s how it pans out in the application
I wrote an elderly couple last week. Ages 67 and 75. They have ssn, no work permits yet. Entered $0 income in app. I also entered that they have no dependents nor will they be claimed as dependents. They have $0 plans with ACA.

How
the 65 year old is claimed as a dependent on the adult children's children tax return
then the income for that household is used
No. I write the immigrant by themselves
