You were spot on here in St. Johns. It was 1 min. till 4 pm and the rain started. It is soooo nice having an seasoned Pacific N westerner forecasting here. CHEERS and thanks for the GOOD work.
Your nailing the forecast lately Rod, much appreciated! I'm southeast of estacada at 1,300 ft and it's just 32 and rain now. We're on that edge of the banana belt 😉 yay!
Drove from Oregon City to North Portland 4pm, it started raining 23*F - freezing on the dry ground as it touched it, became too slippery to drive even on what looked like regular road, so I drove home.
Started raining in Oregon City about 3:50 PM. Outdoor thermometer reads 32. Light accretion beginning on vegetation. Your forecast is right on the money…thanks.
I’m sitting here at 1038 and in ne Portland passed 122nd, it’s been 21 degrees with east wind constantly. We have a pretty good coating of ice on everything. Even the trees. I can hear the trees clacking in the wind. If precip picks back up, I think we will lose power soon. It kinda slacked off for a couple of hours, but radar returns show an increase in the last 30 minutes.
Conditions started as freezing rain for us in the higher elevations in the Coast Range north of Hwy 26, and has now transitioned to sleet as of 6:30pm with temperatures at 25° and falling.
Do you plan to ice skate to the studio tomorrow morning? 🙂 I have been hearing the unmistakable sound of freezing rain accumulating on surfaces since about 4:30 PM. I am in SW Portland.
When I used the new NOAA Experimental Storm Forecasting tool, 3 am to 9 am is horrible. We go from 1/4" to over .25 inches of freezing rain over mass amounts of the entire country. - It is the inches of ice that have me concerned.
Rod, what happened? It hasn't gotten above freezing all day. It says it's 33 and then 34 and then back down to 32. Everything is still solid, there are pools of water making the solid unmelted ice even worse to walk on and now I look at my weather apps and we're not talking about 40s until Saturday. Your Portland weather page still suggest it would be 40 today and that is clearly not going to be the case. There seems to be some updating needed and maybe there's some splaining to do. Appreciate what you do but boy, I hope this is actually going to change soon this is been a long time that we've been trapped in the house, no dog walks etc.
TY Rod. You sound hoarse - been a long week eh?! Hey, what happened to parameters being within 2 degr. Lol. When you started your website (before the app) you used to give yourself 2 degrees for accuracy. Hahaha 🤣 Just messing with ya Rod. I remember when you went to 3 degrees and then now it’s 4. Stay safe and rest your voice. Warm liquids and yawn a lot to relax.
