Menstrual cups are amazing. No leaks, no string hanging out, no liner, no pad, & you only change it once every 10-12 hours. You literally change it once in the morning and once at night. You don’t have to leave class or work to change it in the middle of the day or every 2-4 hours, none of that. No period smell, no extra hassle when wiping after the bathroom, no stained underwear or pants. Your cramps may lessen bc everything inside stays wet & warm & can do what it needs to easier. The cup just catches everything that comes out and holds it there until you have time to empty it. The only time I ever had to change it in a public bathroom it was while on a date. I just slipped it out, dumped the contents in the toilet, wiped it w/ tp, flushed, washed it in the sink w/ soap, rinsed it really well, went back into the stall & put it back in, washed my hands & walked out. Nobody even cared. I went back to my date super confident & feeling accomplished. Still amazingly comfortable, like you’re wearing nothing, like you’re not even on your period at all.
1. Shoutout to all you girls also watching this on your period. 2. I'm terrified of tampons, had to wear them when I swam and it was awful. Menstral cups take a bit of getting used to, but they're hygienic, cost soooo much less long-term than pads/tampons and prevent having as many bleed-outs.
Hahahaha!!!!! I was on my period once when I was performing in Sleeping Beauty as the Lilac Fairy, and I was wearing a tutu that was white underneath. And I guess I leaked. On stage. And a patron that had back stage access rushed to me at intermission to tell me in private that I was leaking and she grabbed a dresser to help rinse out the blood before intermission was over, 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 oh man! That was like almost 20 years ago, and it's still fresh. Also, I remember when I finally stopped dancing, I started having the worst cramps in my life, like seriously bad. I didn't know at the time that exercise can affect cramps, and going from dancing 3-6 hours a day 6 days a week to nothing took a huge toll on me. So I suggest transitioning slowly to some other physical activity to lessen the pain
I am not a ballet dancer and your story makes me wonder why anybody would risk something so humiliating happening to them. That goes for sports and gymnastics too. Did you get laughed at or bullied after it happened?

It's always been so uncomfortable to be in a swimming suit and maybe stretching on the deck and I was really paranoid, but now, if it weren't for all the other symptoms, I would forget about being on my period

Rebekah Butler samee, I love that thing. Especially at night. I used to leak with pads and tampons aren’t that great for at night so I was shook when I first used a cup. It’s also better for the environment so..only positive things
I live in Europe and here almost all the tampons are without applicators, so when you said you where trying to find an ecofriendly tampon brand I was like why don’t just use tampons without applicators (much smaller too for in your bag)
You Tube i live in france an half of our Tampons are with Applicators ... Tampons should not be used with or without appli.. because of the bleach inside and all the dangerous non healthy stuff inside So yeah you should find tampon you is “body friendly” before ecofriendly

I've tried the menstrual cup and it can't be more comfy! You're always clean and it barely bleeds trough - you can wear it with a pad if you're afraid at the beginning. You can even wear it all night without any worries. It takes about two to three periods to be all confident and go without any other protection. Also manipulating with the cup takes a little practise, but it's definitely worth it. And last but not least, it's the best decision you can make for the environment. Zero waste. I'd totally recommend it to all girls and women. It's life-changing, often I even forget about my period! ❤️ I love you! 💖
Awww mannnnn my studio is black Leo’s and if ur older than blue or something. We can wear skirts and shorts the occasional pants (just depends on the teachers mood) but no shirts in ballet
My school has a full on dress code. We have to wear the banana tights if you know what those are. And then the young kids and the oldest kids wear the lights colors. They give the teens one year to have a dark maroon :/
I’ve always wondered about this. I can’t imagine being a ballerina or gymnast doing the splits all the time, exerting, and periods. Good to know it’s just a normal thing that you have to struggle to deal with just like anyone else.
I’m a ballet dancer and I remember I started developing more than my classmates and they would talk about me - I know now it was jealousy but back then I was really insecure and still am about my body especially because I’m a little bit bigger than the others. But since I’ve started doing other dance styles (tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, acro) I have gained more confidence.
wish i knew these things when i was 13 and had to quit ballet because of period complications; i was on my period every day for months on end, no cramps just a lot of bleeding (and was not comfortable with tampons as i was young). when i started medication and came back to ballet, i was so out of practice it crushed me and i just quit. :(
i’ve been using a menstrual cup for almost a year and i really like it since you don’t have to worry about it as much as a tampon. if you’re worried about leaking you can wear period underwear :)

Omg the walking weird irritates me so freaking much! Cause when I’m heavy, it’s like a water fall and it’s just so uncomfortable so I kinda wobble and hope it’s not noticeable
@Mati X I can only tell you about my experience and for me, personally it helped. I usually have medium stomach pain and the cup reduced it a lot. I don't know why this is the case, but for me it works well. Maybe you should just try it, it either works for you or not, but I don't think it will make it worse.

It only works if the white underwear are super comfortable & fancy. They have to be your favorite but in white. Otherwise your period will come late just to spite you & ruin your plans. 😂

@@shortname1644 Some people cannot physically wear them. For me, they give me horrible cramps and just hurt (no, I'm not doing it wrong). I can barely walk like a normal person with a tampon in me, so dancing is impossible. I quit ballet because of the strict dress codes and just being so embarrassed. I also know someone who always has tampons slip out. Doesn't matter which ones or what she does, they fall out especially when she is active.
As someone with a crazy heavy flow, cups are the only way I dont leak. I'm not a dancer, but i would reccomend. Intimidating at first, of course, but after your first use it gets so easy. No leaks at all and so environmentally freindly! Plus no toxic shock. Win-win.
I have tried menstrual cups, I am actually using one right now as I am writing this. Menstrual cups are amazing, but they do need some getting used to. They work just like a tampon, but they are a little bit messy when taking them out because it doesn’t absorb anything, it just collects it. However, I never have leaks, even with having a heavy flow, it lasts up to 12 hours, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning it in a public space, and I workout in mine all the time. I use the small size from the Cora brand. I bought it at Target, and I definitely recommend it.
She's really good at opening up about this. Like I also don't get the kinda tabu around periods and she can explain that really well and it also makes you feel very comfortable about it
Not a dancer, and about 10 years older but I still loved your video, you give out grate advice, and it's grate to here you talk so openly about what you have to deal with, and encourage others to not feel shameful of something natural, also loved that it gave me a look into an aspect of a profession I hadn't thought about till today, thank you.
Menstrual cups are the best option for your organism + environment + convenience. They come in different sizes, so it very helps with first tries. I'm using it for 7 months and so far it's the best switch I did in my life
menstrual cups are the best, both environmentally and just for periods in general, if ur comfortable with that. you just forget they're there if u insert it correct and I imagine it would be very comfortable for dance. Also you only need to change it like every 12 hours so if you dance for a really long time you'll never have to worry unless your flow is very heavy. hope that helped x
My period made me quit ballet. It started the day I went back to ballet after covid. After it ended I just stopped going and anxiety got to me... I've never regretted something so much. I'm trying to get back to the strength I need to continue, because since I stopped ballet something is just constantly missing from me.
Yep :) Here in Norway we do have tampax available aswell, but they're a lot more expensive and way less common than other brands If I am to wear tampons the ones I currently wear I think are by libresse, but we have Ob aswell
i'm not even a ballerina (just an avid supporter), but i love watching as you spread positivity and confidence for a younger generation of girls :) thanks for using your platform in this wholesome way!!
You gave good suggestions about how to deal with your period in class, but what about in performance, and when you have to wear a light-colored costume? As you can see from my thumbnail, I'm an old woman, post-menopausal, but when I was young I danced, and had exactly those concerns you mentioned. And dieted to the point where I stopped having periods (in those days no one thought to call it an "eating disorder," it was considered praiseworthy behavior!) I really appreciate your comments to young women to respect their bodies wisdom; you are so right about that!
Thank you for doing this for all the young women out there. You normalize the many feelings we experience and your tips are stellar. You demonstrate warmth, compassion and grace. Thank you for being a role model for so many girls and women.
I’m watch this because I’m a gymnast, cheerleader, and swimmer so I found this VERY helpful! It was extremely hard for me because I got my period when u was 11 and I had to do my first tampon on my 3rd period (it has always been regular)
@Mati X I agree to some extent since some ppl are more sensitive and can get infections from pads and tampons or these can cause trouble in miss V's balance. Also, even though it's not harmful, soap is never "required", you're supposed to wash miss V with hot water and that's it, but oc it's personal preference. I don't know about other cups but the one I use is 100% medical silicone and I never ever had the problems I had before I started using it 🤷🏽♀️ but again it depends on ppl
To remove blood stains pour peroxide directly on the stain, let it fizz rinse with peroxide, repeat until stain is gone. Works best on fresh stains, if it's dried on soak in peroxide for an hour or so. Repeat if necessary.
PLEASE try a menstrual cup they are revolutionary! they save the environment and you can use them on the days leading up/after your period for extra protection!
I LOVE my menstrual cup! As a ballet dancer it works really well for me too, no leaks! In performances and exams is the only time I would choose not to wear it.
a few weeks ago i had a really heavy flow during ballet, and leaked all over my tights! then i had to wear sweatpants for the rest of class and it was really embarrassing
Menstrual cups are the best! I'm a university student and it saves my life if I have long days with breaks just long enough to get to my next class. They are great for training too (I'm a pole dancer). It just takes a while to learn to use it and you need to pick the right one (you probably want a firm cup if you're active, the first cup I had was too soft and wouldn't open properly).
Well done for talking so openly about a super-sensitive subject - just like as in your 'body hair' video. I bet there are lots of young girls/women who will be delighted with the info and options you explore. Again, very well done!
Ok Luna IDK how this happened, but I started my period unexpectedly last nighT, and I was nervous because I have dance today. And you uploaded this video today, about this specific thing, which is literally lifesaving....thanks so much
my staple tip is pain management. I've got scoliosis (fun!) and the chronic pain from that plus from my hypermobility is absolutely magnified when I'm on my period. I always let my teacher know that hey i'm not feeling great and might not be able to go full out every time. my studio is very casual so that's never really an issue. i take pain meds before class and have some ready in case i need more, when we're doing free stretches (basically do whatever you want before we go across the room) i always spend some time in childs pose for my back. and i know my limits. do not push yourself to injury because you feel like you need to prove to yourself that your period isn't going to get you down, sometimes it will. and thats okay. and if youre period is one of those absolutely debilitating, agony inducing ones. *go to your gp* you might have endometriosis (1 in 10 women do!)
I would like to thank you for talking about this subject. I wasn't told about my period at all. I want to applaud you for talking about a subject that is looked down on.
menstrual cups are the best invention ever. there is no waste, it saves you money, and it's so much better for your body. there is a learning curve but i highly recommend - i've switched almost every girl i know to a menstrual cup
Menstral cups are AMAZING! I have used one for the last 3 years and love them. I use Juju, super comfortable, soft, lasts for 12 hours and great for gymnasts like me or active people and dancers. They last for up to 12 hours and are the best thing ever for your period. Better for the environment too.
A diva cup is great!! It makes a barrier between the blood and the air, so as long as it's in properly it won't smell. And you can leave it in for 12 hours. They're good for the environment too.
Bro, I just started my period in 2020 January and my period be coming earlier every time. February 16th: Me: “Ah, finally. My period finished.” 2nd/3rd of March: My period: *gUtEn tAg*
Meme God It takes a little time for cycles to settle down. Learn to listen to your body and think about how you felt and looked a couple of days before your period started. Bloating, craving, mood swings, break outs, tummy pain, etc., can be indicators that it’s on it’s way. Always be prepared, not only for yourself but for your friends too, and encourage them to do the same. You may end up helping another girl out, especially if it’s their first period and it’s all new and a little scary to them. It’s one thing to know the theory, but quite another to face the reality😊
K P thank you! I thought abt the days before I started my period, I was having mood swings, tummy aches and so. I just didn’t know i was gonna start my period because I never really thought abt puberty and so. Yes, I constantly tell my friends to take pads with them and extra underwear incase an “accident” happens. Ya know. But now that schools r closed it’s better for girls who are just starting their periods bc it wont be so hard at school. Once again, thank you 😊
i found that the OB tampons are a good alternative. there’s no applicator and they’re really comfortable and i’ve never bled through when using them :)
Good for you, for being so open about a subject that many don't want to talk about! We need more women like you! Also, menstrual cups are an alternative to disposable tampons/pads. You can safely wear them up to 12hrs & you don't have to worry about how your flow is that day (heavy/light). Bonus: if you think you might start, you can insert the cup even if you aren't on your period yet, just in case. Just be sure to check it after class & remove it if you don't need it. Also, make sure to remove it every 12 hrs. There is also the period panty option. Thinx are popular & they have a TON of fabric/cut/flow options; thong, high waist, hip hugger (and way more). Light, heavy flow. They say that they take the place of a panty liner & on light days you might even be able to wear it alone. They even have a leotard option. You can get them @ shethinx.com. I'm a bit older than many of the gals on here (I've been getting my period for almost 30yrs now!). I can tell you that it gets much easier to manage & you get into a groove. Remember it's a natural, normal thing & there is nothing to be ashamed of!
im a dancer who uses a menstrual cup. with tampons, i would leak sometimes even though it would be uncomfortable to remove? with a menstrual cup, i have only had one leak because i didn't empty it before class on a heavy day, and that was because i laughed not because i was dancing lol. if you have it open properly, it is so much more reliable and i have much more peace of mind with my cup than i did with tampons. if you have thought about trying menstrual cups or discs i would recommend to give it a shot!
I’ve been using a cup for about 6 months and it is the absolute BEST, game changer really! You should try it, and it is the best environmental friendly option
Two table spoons of molasses within the first two days of my period, makes mine be almost gone by three days and hardly ever leaks , wear two underwears instead of one to help everything stay in place and is less likely to leak .a worm pack helps with cramps besides for the pain meds, I've been doing it for years .it's awesome!!! P.s. you can even put the molasses in your tea, hot cocoa, or coffee and oatmeal as a sweetner ,feel free to split the two table spoons of molasses to the first and middle part of the day.if you can't take them both at once, but it will work best if taken both at once. Hope it works!

OMG! You described my period in like three sentences, I´m 14 almost 15 and all my friends have their periods from like two or three years ago and mine just came last year, it was so stressful ´cause it didn´t come back in like 6 months and I was very worried about that. Actually, when I talked to my teacher she told me that she got hers when she was 16, also talked to me about getting tampons for class and to wear skirts... It was super funny when my ballet friends found out, the thing is that I´m really good so I dance with girls and boys about 16-17 and that makes me the baby of the class and everyone is so overprotecting with me for being the youngest, anyway when they found out they literally throw a party to celebrate me being part of the ballerina life... Lol, I just love my class so much!! They are like my older siblings, the teacher is very strict but she is like the mom always taking care of us and making us feel comfortable.
I’m so glad you made a video of this! As a dancer, nobody has ever educated me on how to deal with tight clothing, tampons/pads, getting periods late (which SCARED me so FREAKING BAD), and shaving, and cramps, and discomfort in general! Your like the older sister I wish I had ❤

I'm a competitive swimmer and let me tell you, buying a menstrual cup was game changing. I use the organicup, and once I realized how to correctly position it according to my body, I stopped hating periods. It's always been so uncomfortable to be in a swimming suit and maybe stretching on the deck and I was really paranoid, but now, if it weren't for all the other symptoms, I would forget about being on my period

I live in Europe and here almost all the tampons are without applicators, so when you said you where trying to find an ecofriendly tampon brand I was like why don’t just use tampons without applicators (much smaller too for in your bag)
You Tube i live in france an half of our Tampons are with Applicators ... Tampons should not be used with or without appli.. because of the bleach inside and all the dangerous non healthy stuff inside
So yeah you should find tampon you is “body friendly” before ecofriendly
and they don’t make so much noise because they aren’t in this big "bag"

i been use tampons without applicators now for.. holy moly 9 YEARS, from very fisrt period

I love you! 💖

first tip: avoid light color leotards
My dance school = "You MUST wear a light blue leotard at age 15". So I belong to that :(
Feed by Noa awww I’m glad my uniform is dark purple
Awww mannnnn my studio is black Leo’s and if ur older than blue or something. We can wear skirts and shorts the occasional pants (just depends on the teachers mood) but no shirts in ballet
One is black but we have to we’re tights and no underwear tho and no shorts but I got mine before I restarted dance I got mine at 10 and in 3rd grade
My school has a full on dress code. We have to wear the banana tights if you know what those are. And then the young kids and the oldest kids wear the lights colors. They give the teens one year to have a dark maroon :/
noa vandenbogaerde lol. At my place, we wear an any style black leotard and a wrap over skirt so I'm lucky 💕
But since I’ve started doing other dance styles (tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, acro) I have gained more confidence.
oh man i’m sorry 🥺

@Mati X I can only tell you about my experience and for me, personally it helped. I usually have medium stomach pain and the cup reduced it a lot. I also know someone who always has tampons slip out. Doesn't matter which ones or what she does, they fall out especially when she is active.

How....convenient.

You gave good suggestions about how to deal with your period in class, but what about in performance, and when you have to wear a light-colored costume? As you can see from my thumbnail, I'm an old woman, post-menopausal, but when I was young I danced, and had exactly those concerns you mentioned. Hi, so I don't even do ballet but I'm pretty sportive too and the Organi Cup has literally changed my life + it isn't toxic as pads and tampons are 👍🏼
@Mati X lol yes I mean you're not supposed to put chemicals in your V
@Mati X I agree to some extent since some ppl are more sensitive and can get infections from pads and tampons or these can cause trouble in miss V's balance. Also, even though it's not harmful, soap is never "required", you're supposed to wash miss V with hot water and that's it, but oc it's personal preference. I don't know about other cups but the one I use is 100% medical silicone and I never ever had the problems I had before I started using it 🤷🏽♀️ but again it depends on ppl
@Mati X (also I'm sorry if I'm not expressing myself right, I'm french)
@Mati X that's what I tried to say but you definitely explained it better than I did 😂
To remove blood stains pour peroxide directly on the stain, let it fizz rinse with peroxide, repeat until stain is gone. Works best on fresh stains, if it's dried on soak in peroxide for an hour or so. Repeat if necessary.
OB makes a great tampon that is organic and applicator free. It takes a little getting used to but I love it because it’s sooo tiny.

And you uploaded this video today, about this specific thing, which is literally lifesaving....thanks so much
If u don’t like tampons I recommend the always flex foam pads, I wore it my last class and I did t feel a thing
my staple tip is pain management.

I got my period in the shower 2 years ago
K P thank you! I thought abt the days before I started my period, I was having mood swings, tummy aches and so. I just didn’t know i was gonna start my period because I never really thought abt puberty and so.
Yes, I constantly tell my friends to take pads with them and extra underwear incase an “accident” happens. Ya know. But now that schools r closed it’s better for girls who are just starting their periods bc it wont be so hard at school.
Once again, thank you 😊
I started March of 2020 and it was so irregular like mam pick a time
i found that the OB tampons are a good alternative. there’s no applicator and they’re really comfortable and i’ve never bled through when using them :)

Mee lol uggh
my first one and i’m scared that my pad will show through my tights!
Thanks so much ballerina squad ✊🏿✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏻✊

Also for swimming or dancing type activities, you can cut the string on a tampon a little and tie it ( so the strands stay together) to keep it hidden : )
