    I just watched a video the other day from a guy who purchases Amazon return items by the pallet. One of the items he showed from a box of returned toys was a Savage World Panthro, still on its card, with a leg resting on the bottom of the bubble. I'm happy to hear that the word is getting out about the quality control issues. I hope Funko fixes them because, like you said, they are one of the few companies that really understand nostalgia and what people want.

    I've also seen a FEW of those horror themed ones with their legs popped off in Target. Drives me nuts. These Thundercats ones LOOK so freaking good.

    I hate how Funko can make things that actually look halfway decent (as well as legitimately good poseable figures like the Mega Man line)... but...
    _they keep making POP FIGURES._

    Thanks for the look into these! I have to admit, the sculpts look pretty good, but seeing that issue with the ball joint just disappoints. It reminds me of the Spawn figures from the mid and late 90's. Ithe concepts and designs felt so right for the source material, but the execution just fails when you get toys that break in the package, or fall apart as soon as you try to set it up or stage it for display.

    When I got my Panthro his leg was off in the package. I figured I could simply warm the leg in boiling water and pop it back on. Nope. The ball broke right off the plastic is so soft. If I break another one I am going to try to convert it to reproduction Masters of the Universe bands.

    I know Conan is 90s and the toys were mostly garbage, but I’d love to hear your take on the cartoons. It had a complete story arc. I know it couldn’t do the savagery of the original stories, but I think they were true to the vision. Just my opinion, since I bought it on Blu-ray lol.

      From what I understand, there was a type of plastic that they used for the hip joints and it is a bit more unstable. They have noticed the issue, changed the plastic and are making new figures that should not have the same breakage issues.

    I had actually preordered these 4 figures because they looked awesome. And they were only £10.99 each. But then I read the reviews on Amazon and the quality issue, so I ended up cancelling my order and spending my money elsewhere.

  • @bb7931
    @bb7931 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am with you 100% on those POPs. They are stupid. They'll occasionally release some with dioramas like the Bespin Duel or Cantina and it pisses me off that it's not usable for a vintage figure display. Funko Pops are a plague. They are like Tribbles. And people buy that crap!!! It's like when a few years ago those atrocious "Date Movie" "Disaster Movie" kept churning out. And idiots kept watching them until I guess enough people wised up and realized they were stupid. Maybe that will happen soon with Pops. Then 30 years later there'll be a documentary about a landfill stuffed with nothing but Funko Pops.

    I'm a diehard Mr. Freeze fan so I got the figure they made of him for the DC Savage line. I INTENDED on keeping it carded, but the packaging was so destroyed I had to open it. I knew about the leg problem, so I just used a hair dryer to roll the ball joint so he'll at LEAST stand up. I agree 100% with you man... Funko could be doing some great stuff if they just focused more on the function alongside the form.

    Watching this just reminds me how much I miss good toy lines like the MOTU. Looking back. That was a really good toy line. Going one step further. GIJoe was just plain awesome. In the 80s anyway. Before the Joes lost their way in the 90s they were a plastic legend among boys toys. Today. Walking through the toy aisle at Target and Walmart. Many modern toys just don’t have that little extra something, the spark, the tangible thing, that toy lines had in the 80s. Two exceptions to that today would be Lego and Hot Wheels. IMO those two still got it. I look at those two today and I think “yup that’s what I remember”. Those two brands still give me the feels. The rest... just seen like cheap... overpriced... poorly painted... plastic. IDK. I’d like to be proven wrong. OK. For example. I know Star Wars: The Black Series isn’t all bad. But the price is too much and the overall product selection is really ...meh. And believe me. I’m a total sucker for 80s toy nostalgia ...yet ...SW:TBS is just become ...so ...boring. So emotionally empty. SW:TBS. Black, like it’s soul.

      I work for a job where I check community resources for people & bring people & resources. One such place I visited takes kids toys & hands them out at various events. In the overstock back room was several large tubs (cases) of Funko Pops (mostly Star Wars)- well over 200 of them. This was after a public event where they were given away to countless kids. To say nothing of the other toy, comic & collectible stores that will sell the new 1s for $1. So yeah, I'd say Funko goes a little overboard (even making them for cereal mascots?). Who is demanding the endless variety?

    All jokes aside, I'm glad you gave your thoughts! I may have to challenge you though on the LJN's line when it comes to figure-to-figure scaling though (we'll save that for another time).
    Some other things to note from me of this line that a lot of people miss that I take issue with:
    1. The character art for both Mumm-Ra and Slithe is from the 2011 cartoon. Likely taken off of Google images.
    2. The logo on the belt isn't actually the proper ThunderCats symbol, but is instead an incorrect fan-vector found on Google images that got slapped on.

    I agree with most of what you said here, but I like some of the Funko Pops. Keyword being some.
    The thing is I like the concept of having the figures look like the original Masters of the Universe figures, I also like how they did the Masters of the universe characters in the three and three-quarter inch like the old Star Wars figures, and I can't tell you how grateful I am of the amount of money you saved me because of your reviews of these toys.
    I mean I'm kicking myself because all of the toys I had as a kid or either lost or broken, so I don't want to get something brand-new that reminds me of those toys that's going to break as soon as I move its legs.

    It's a shame about the quality control, I really dug the idea. It's especially sad when you consider that He-Man toys were super tough when they originally came out. When I was a kid, you could beat the hell out of MotU figures and they'd take it. They were built to be played with. That's an edict sadly missing from too many modern toy lines, they're all so fragile they can hardly be played with.

    • @rictusmetallicus
      @rictusmetallicus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think many "toys" are no longer meant to be played with by kids, they're made to be bought and kept misb or mosc in some collector's cabinet or be displayed in a cabinet.

    Great video, I've been hearing about these "Savage World" figures. I've heard of their "DC Heroes" and "Slasher Villain" lines, now this is kinda the first time I've heard of their "Thundercats" line. And I still have yet to check out the old cartoon or its 2011 revival, hell I know I'll be avoiding the upcoming "Thundercats Roar" series like the plague. But from what you said, it seems "Funko" is going a little too authentic with this line, what with the brittleness of these figures. I hope "Funko" does get the message in this video, and gets to work on improving the quality control, so these "He-Man-esque" figures will have a better lease on life.

  • @Sportimus
    @Sportimus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It isn't just the breakages that are an issue with these. I've seen some sloppy paint applications on them as well. I bought only Lion-O, and I don't mess with his legs at all either. The legs on my copy do move, but I'm not taking any chances. I've decided to stick with Super 7's "Vintage" MOTU line of the same style "old school" 1980's 5.5 inch build but with the Filmation style. The 2-packs have QC issues. The 1st wave of single carded figures do as well, but not as bad. Just pop the leg back on or re-stap the chest harness. As for Thundercats, I'd rather see Mattel continue with the Classics line. Otherwise, I'm tasing on these Funko releases.

    I have the first wave and only pulled the trigger because the second wave was in the pipeline. Ordered mine from Big Bad Toy Store and spent the extra couple bucks to get the collector (white glove) packaging. I noticed once they arrived that two of the four figures had one of their legs popped off. Ugh! This poses a problem for MOC collectors. Anyways, the legs did pop right back on and I haven't had an issue but I also haven't played with them. Much like most collectors, they sit motionless on my shelf. Also, I too agree with you on the Funko Pops. I really see them as the Beanie Babies of this generation. Unfortunately, Funko makes a boat-load of cash on them and they'll only stop making those when the oil runs out. On a side note, LJN's Thundercats line paired great with Galoob's A-Team line.

    Granted qc is an issue, it seems like this should be an easy home repair now that they are in your possession. Can you pop off the legs after a nice soak in boiling water? If so, either sand a little off the peg or sand the leg hole. But again, if Funko had a modicum of qc, this wouldn't be an issue.

    I appreciate that you hate those stupid Funko POPS as much as me, worst thing to happening to "collecting" maybe ever! Your points are all well asserted here Michael - I agree with it. You're also correct that their ideas and are incredible good. The Primal Age figures and Batcave with the rideable Wolf accessory figure is really amazing. They even used translucent plastics and rubbers that remind me of the 90s - I think like you said they are close. Unfortunately, at Target those figures are like $11 for legs that pop off. Not worth it. Hopefully your message gets delivered to them. I'm still really tempted to collect the Primal Age line - it's so 80s/90s.

    It's worse than you think. I tried to repair a Pathor today. I ended up breaking more plastic. The pelvis plastics are terrible. I had to used super glue to put the legs back together and now I can't move them...

    Thank the maker! There's something GOOD on.
    I think the "SIGH" is my favorite part. So much is being said there. So honest.

    Buying these was my worst mistake, I am not even opening the rest and sadly I can't sell these at cost. Funko really screwed up

    Is it true that Funko lost the rights to Masters of the Universe because of the Savage World lines?

    So the Target Primal Age figures (and Primal Age wave 2 and Street Fighter) have legs can pop off in some cases but they DID go back and make the leg connectors out of a more durable plastic that avoids actual breakage.
    So what did I do? I dissected Panthro and Mumm-Ra and swapped the leg connectors out with the new ones now that these figures are all sub $10.
    I’m on the fence whether Slithe and Lion-O need it.
    I DO think they made huge QC strides this year and wave 2 is worth a look. I’ve been told by a Funko employee that they took a beating on QC for 2018 figures. The leg connector was always supposed to be more durable and the factory for late 2018 figures went off specs.
    He’d like to see wave 1 reissued with fixes but wave 2 sales will need to justify it with his bosses.

    Thanks to this video, when i finally found some of these at gamestop a while back, i put them in hot water to prevent the legs snapping. Saved me from breaking the figure and gave me some cool figures to have on display.

    I'm a new subscriber, so don't know the story, so i was wondering why you don't like Thundercats.

    The only 80s figures I can think of that could remotely be compatible with the original LJN ThunderCats line are Cops N' Crooks, The Centurions, Bravestar, and Remco's Rambo. It really was a mistake on LJN's part by not having them in the 5 and a half inch He-Man style articulation and scale.
    I've managed to pick up the Savage World Jason Voorhees from their horror wave and Kitana from the Mortal Kombat wave. Both of which held up okay and I didn't seem to be having any trouble getting them to stand. Maybe, it was either by pure luck or I was being very careful with them. They are pretty sweet and I think I may pick up a few more in the future.

    I got my nephew a Batman Batcave for his birthday that came with a sort’ve 3 and 3/4 inch scale Batman. I was hoping to get him a Joker, Penguin, or even just a random thug to play with. Found the Batman toys in the same scale as the one that it came with… but they were all variants of Batman!!! Why?! Give us some damn villains, Jesus!!!

    When it came to Funko Pop figures, I went for the ones I truly wanted. I only own Pops of TMNT, Batman, Kenny Omega from NJPW and a few from Dragon Ball Z. Otherwise I stopped collecting those. Not a fan anymore. These Savage World Thundercats look like cool display pieces, despite the quality control issues you mentioned. I might get me a set, but not anytime soon. Thanks for sharing this.

    Great review and excellent points, but I think we all know why Funko won't ever stop making the stupid Pops and why these figures are the way they are: money.
    For whatever reason, people are buying the Pops and sales are what matter. It's not "Funko, stop making Pops" it's "People, stop buying Pops!" If people didnt buy them, Funko wouldn't keep making them.
    And as far as these figures go, it's about making them as cheap as possible. "Who cares if they break? They bought them, the money changed hands so we're good. If they break, go buy another!" is the edict. Funko's argument will be that the price would double or triple if they produced quality which puts it out of the price range of kids. Even though most kids will have no idea about these characters, they're still the demographic for them. And let's face it, most adults aren't going to play with them the way kids do. As someone else pointed out, adults are just going to put them on a shelf, if they even open the packaging at all.
