So India is divided into states based on the languages spoken in that specified region. Southern part of India has 5 states which have different official languages like Tamil for Tamil Nadu, Malayalam for Kerela, Telugu for Telangana nd Andhra Pradesh. Northern Part of India consists of Hindi speaking belt but even the Hindi they speak differs from region to region. So the Hindi language films made are considered Bollywood movies. Telugu films as Tollywood, Tamil films as Kollywood and so on.

As a North Indian I just feel sad. The people around were too gracious towards Alia and they are towards most North Indians who would just laugh away saying South Indian languages are too difficult. Its a shame that most people dont even try to learn basics of other Indian languages. Alia should have come prepared with some songs, dialogues and history of Telugu cinema. But like most North Indians she just thought she can get away with using English and showing ignorance.
