"Ahoy, maties. This is KAB, Antonio Bay. Stevie Wayne here, beaming a signal across the sea ... for the men in The Sea Grass, miles out tonight: a warm hello. And keep a watch out for that fog bank heading in from the east. In the meantime, relax with me while I play this song from The Coup DeVilles." Love this movie. It drips with eerie atmosphere and dread, but at the same time its setting is so often beautiful (Stevie walking to work, Andy on the shore spotting the phantom gold coin, etc).
I like the way you see things. That seen with Andy spotting the gold coin on the beach is one of my favorites. The wind, the music, just the whole atmosphere.
@@eduardo_corrochio I known what you mean. There's another one that comes to mind though. It's Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. There are some truly peaceful and relaxing scenes in that movie juxtaposed with the terror and they both feature Tippi Hedren. One is where they shown her little car speeding along the winding coastal road. In one scene you hear the car's motor roaring as Tippi is driving along and in the next shot you see only the ocean vistas and hear nothing nothing except the wind. There's also another similar scene when she's chugging across the bay in her little motorboat. They do a wide angle shot and again you only hear the wind. It's beautiful.
@@josebro352 Such a good movie! I like when she's driving the curves and the lovebirds sway in their cage from side to side. Cute moment. Hitchcock knew he had to add little smiles and chuckles along the way. Oh, and when Melanie takes the liberty of bringing the birds to the Brenner home as a gift for young Cathy, and she's taking that motorboat over, and then sneaking around ... if someone unfamiliar with The Birds just watched that scene alone they'd think she was bringing a bomb to the house. It's shot and edited so well, taking something ordinary and injecting some excitement. Also: The lack of music score also creates something unique in the film.
@@eduardo_corrochio OMG exactly! I know the scene and you're absolutely spot on. The camera angles make her approach to the Brenner home seem menacing. As if there's something sinister waiting for her inside. And you're right about the lack of a soundtrack. It makes it all the more unsettling. Sadly you don't see scenes like that in films today. A lot of thriller films from the sixties and seventies were shot that way. Coincidentally The Birds was also filmed in the same area as The Fog. Point Reyes and Bodega Bay. The whole northern California coast has sort of a spooky atmosphere about it. Another suspenseful film which also has some beautiful and serene shots is The Dead Zone with Christopher Walken. One minute you're seeing blood in a bathroom then in total contrast the next shot is a bleak, wintery landscape with only the silence of the snow. The musical score is somewhat sad as well. Check it out if you haven't seen it. It's a great movie.
"Sure beats Chicago" is right. I'd trade city life for a DJ in a Lighthouse gig any day! Went to college in Santa Clara in 1987 from Upstate NY. Finally in 2004, flew out to visit family and took a rental car out to Pt Reyes. Saw Stevie Wayne's house and the rusty crosses leading up to where the old church was in the script. Got to the Lighthouse gate and it was closed due to high winds. No one was out there. The sky was blue and sunny. There's a stone knee-wall in the parking area that overlooks the coastline. I could picture the movie opening as the camera lifts skyward revealing that same shot. Prettiest countryside I've ever seen out there....
John Carpenter has such wonderful, atmospheric vibes in his movies: The Fog, Halloween, Prince of Darkness, etc. This video captures the movie's look perfectly, right down to that eerie glow of the fog. I think I'll go and watch it now 😀
@@josebro352 The Prince of Darkness is very good. Very spooky, especially the "dream sequences" that the characters have throughout the movie. Donald Pleasance plays a priest in this as well.
This is cool on so many levels. It's one of my favourite films and I loved the calming and ethereal feel of the film, even as it was a horror with plenty of scares, it was also laid back in many ways. It is such a cool film with a great story and this is a nice treat for fans of the film. Thank you.
"I don't know what happened to Antonio Bay tonight. Something came out of the fog and tried to destroy us. In one moment, it vanished. But if this has been anything but a nightmare, and if we don't wake up to find ourselves safe in our beds, it could come again. To the ships at sea who can hear my voice, look across the water, into the darkness. Look for the fog."
Rachel, If you like foghorns, there's a video on TH-cam of the S.F Bay foghorns that you'll love. It is a wonderful relaxing piece, and for those of us who had that as part of our acoustic background, a touch of home.
My wife and I drove out to Point Reyes last week at 12 midnight in December. We had the KAB music playing in the car as we drove from Stinson Beach to the lighthouse. We passed Stevie Wayne’s house at 12380 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and also the large Cross at 12835 a mile up the road. We parked in the small car park and walked to the lighthouse visitor Center and viewing point which was really spooky. FYI, if you double back to Point Reyes Station (The town) and take the Shoreline Highway 1 for about an hours drive you’ll be in Bodega Bay the location of the Hitchcock thriller the Birds.
Yes, loved going out there when I lived in the Bay area (76-89). It is a wonderful place to experience, as is Bodega Bay. Also, one should go to "Santa Carla" (Santa Cruz) in the off-season to get the whole "Lost Boys" vibe.

Wow! Fantastic! keeping making these please. All of my most favorite films. I would love to see a Prince of Darkness video with the church basement scene and the rotating green cylinder in the background. It's like you have a direct route to my asmr mind 🙂Thanks for your hard work.
The kind they have in the S.F. bay area. It IS an entity unto itself, and both my wife and myself have, on many occasions, watched it crest the hills on either side of the gate, and come in under the gate, and flow down into the city and the bay, against the outbound breeze. It comes down the crags on those hills in fingerlike extensions, so their portrayal of the fog is not against nature, rather very MUCH like the real fog in point of fact.
When we were kids in 1980 we thought the figures emerging from the fog were not lepers but pirates. I guess in the mind of a 10 year old SWORD-WIELDING UNDEAD + OLD SQUARE-RIGGER = PIRATES.
How could I sleep!?...knowing Blake is in his way.
