The main protagonist of this game is a Trailblazer, basically a follower of a god/spirit of travel and discovery, and they are blessed by the power of this entity, granting them the ability to survive the vacuum of space, extreme temperatures, and more. However, a "side effect" of this blessing is that most Trailblazers develop a desire to seek out treasure. This desire varies from person to person, but our protagonist definitvely drew the short straw, as their "side effect" is *SO* intense that they effectively hallucinate trashcans to be as treasure chests, filled with potential wealth if they just keep sifting through enough trash.
I don't think that "because blessing" is actually the cause, this is not 40k (unless it was explicitly stated as the cause). My explanation is that its because they are the "player character", and we all know how players behave in any sort of exploration + looting games. See the sparks of "interactable object", B-line. So the devs basically decided the might as well run with it.
5:05 That 'iron man' girl is Firefly, who has a crush on the player character (the racoon). She has a mech suit that she can summon at any time, but it doesn't normally look like that. In the song she's being neglected in favor of trash cans, and is trying to impress the PC with a trash can-like version of the suit. Just for the PC to develop a new hyperfixation on manholes instead. The manholes are also an actual thing in the game. Whereas the second planet Belobog is where the trash can joke started, there's an area in the fourth planet Penacony where you can interact with multiple manholes and get an achievement for finding them all.

But it all started because they did a meme interaction with a trashcan where you had to search a specific can to get like 5 of the currency to do pulls. And the whole interaction was hilarious because the mc downright believed there’s a treasure because that’s how other game protagonists find it so they dug deep into that trashcan for a golden bag of trash. The mc isn’t trash as a playable character at most times, some forms are bad others are the best, and the girl that became a ‘trashcan’ robot is a character that has a full out robot suit she uses to fight bugs with but she also is like stalker levels of wanting to make sure the mc is ok, well fed, and not in trouble…….there might be some love but she never really showed it yet anyway the trashcan version was just a way to try and get the mc to pay attention to her more than trash in this song. Due to that Caelus already has a shtick "cocky early twenties anime protagonist energy" whereas Stelle is more reserved (I say her most common demeanor is that of a female wolf who hasn't quite decided yet if she's feeling cornered), a clearly delighted Stelle always appears more unhinged and so while the trash thing is not one of the very few sex-linked changes to the narrative (really, there are extremely few but the game also takes pains to prove it does in fact track all the little choices you make including this one) the fanbase likes making the girl be the crazy one. As this also covers "crazy awesome", the entire playerbase tends to be fine with this as fanon. So this song is one of the best types of joke: it acknowledges the weirdness of life in a way that simply living doesn't.
Oh, and simply to explain the "trash can robot": in a high-profile fighting tournament a group of cosplayers entered trying to pass themselves off as this robotic character with ancillary robot assistants. While this worked early on as this person's reputation is far more widespread than their appearance and opponents were simply forfeiting matches rather than risk a fight, the main character instantly noticed their outfits were trash, called up the actual person (slightly terrifying a nearby journalist who had no idea she knew them), and confirmed it was just a random group of idiots rather than some elaborate sponsored prank - which was a possibility. (After getting defeated and their apparently very expensive trash can costumes damaged, they received a talking-to about impersonations that will put you in the crosshairs of pretty much every law enforcement AND criminal organization in the galaxy.)
As funny as the “this character is trash” metaphor would be- it’s just a gag based of our, as the players, actions. And the fact that the trash item gives a -15% hp affect, so literally a trash item. Stelle, or caelus, the mc of star rail is actually a good character, and as an end game f2p I still use the trash panda in my team, but for support, also I have a feeling the trash can gag will continue into amphorius, the next planet of the game.

@@AVCIV315 you don't need to play any other games to make it make sense, honkai star rail is its own thing. there are easter eggs and expy characters from honkai impact 3rd that can be cool for hi3 players to see, but i never played hi3 and have no trouble understanding what's going on in hsr. genshin impact has nothing to do with hsr as well, though there are a few references to it in hsr just because hsr is cheeky and likes to reference a lot of things lol

@@killaura2282Alright, first of all, which one is considered the first one, and second, should I also play Genshin Impact? I was just looking through the developers games and I say a lot in the same universe as Honkai. I just don't know what games to play to have this game make since.
@@AVCIV315 you don't need to play any other games to make it make sense, honkai star rail is its own thing. there are easter eggs and expy characters from honkai impact 3rd that can be cool for hi3 players to see, but i never played hi3 and have no trouble understanding what's going on in hsr. genshin impact has nothing to do with hsr as well, though there are a few references to it in hsr just because hsr is cheeky and likes to reference a lot of things lol
