    It's interesting how plants prices differs in different parts of the world. Here in northern europe I can buy a reeeally long and full hoya compacta for 25£, and people basicly pay you to take over their pileas, but a frydek costs 100£. Love your videos!

      that's so true! And all plant swap facebook post specifically say they will not swap for a pilea or spiderplant :p

      I live in Washington, US and got my Hoya Compacta for $15 in a 6 inch pot, 5 little vines that were about 5 inches. Looks full in the pot. It’s been growing like crazy since 🥰 next is a variegated for me if I ever find one.

    • @wirinaholstein4076

      Also here in Scandinavia Hoya Compactas are considered "old lady plants" because every housewife has them on those rounded trellises and they're given as "silver marriage" presents (silver marriage is when people have been married for 25 years). So I've never wanted any Hoyas. We also call Hoyas for "vax plants" and they are in every institutionalized building like schools, public buildings, doctors, museums, etc. Not very attractive to own. The same with Ficus or "rubber plants". And Pileas is like the "foolproof" plant here. Everybody has it, its the cheapest and easiest thing and it sells in supermarkets, etc. But try finding a variegated plant of any sort. Impossible. And if you want to get a Monstera Albo Variegata 1-leaf cutting, you will have to import it for 500+ US dollars (before added taxes and import duties, and shipping costs). Anthuriums are simply not available even for import and I spent 6 months finding a Burrows Tail plant which was very expensive and of course I lost a ton of leaves when repotting from the nursery pot.

    • @zfgergrg
      @zfgergrg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wirinaholstein4076 that's true! I don't know about the marriage thing here in Belgium but every old womans window sill has some kind of hoya (indeed on a rounded trellis) and sansevria on it.

    I guess I too am a fangirl of Ella of The Plant's Meow. She has a beautiful, and amazing collection. Becca I can't recall if I came to you from Ella's comments or Pam's of Pam's Pretty Plants. Ella is always sweet and kind in every interaction I have had with her. Thanks for this video. We are about to move to (the home buying process is so long). My husband and son are always on me about buying plants and heavy pots right now. They say I am buying more work for them when the move comes. I am glad to know I am not the only one finding it irresistible. Maybe this is an Addiction...ha! Hello, my name is Hodge (I use my middle name) and I am a Plant addict...Its been 9 days since I bought a plant. We also joked about putting up a sign at the house like a factory's OSHA sign. Instead of time since an accident we post days since a plant purchase. Anyway, they are lovely plants. Stay chill while packing & happy growing.

    AHH. That happens to me too!! I never notice how big the plant is going to be, and I spend and EXCESSIVE amount of money on it😂 4 in. Pots for $30 is the type of trap I fall into for not paying attention 🤣😭 THAT RHAPHIDOPHORA TETRASPERMA IS SO BEAUTIFUL, I want to buy it rn!! I'm definitely going to consider that, I got my Rhaphi for $22 it's in a 6" pot and the stock is only 4" tall with only one fenestrated leaf and the rest of the leaves are not fenestrated It grows very slowly for me because it went through a small case of root rot but it came back I was able to save it from completely deteriorating 🥰. Amazing video!!!

  • @tessadubois3679

    Aw man, they always getcha with the short hindu rope. So slow growing too, so not a lot of growers have super long ones.
    On a seperate note, I've found that every time I buy a bunch of plants from one grower at the same time it seems like I get the smallest version of that plant. They either display a FULL, bushy 2-3 inch pot but then you receive the plant that is much younger. Even before covid19 hit this was my experience. The more you buy at once the more they need to fit in a box or two so it seems like they pick less foliated forms of the plant so it ships better. At least that's what I think.
    Then what usually happens is I see a way bigger version of the same plant for a few bucks more at my local nursery the next time I go there and end up buying that too😭. This happens to me with landscaping/gardening plants and houseplants alike.

    The prices are crazy! Even at the more expensive garden centres, a Hindu rope Hoya double the length and with two or three ropes would be about 8€ here. The pilea maybe 10€ if you are especially unlucky and find an expensive one.
    Some plants are more available in the US (like monstera sp. Peru) but otherwise those prices are shocking for me.
    I’m glad that my string of hearts (one normal and one variegated) were only 2€ a piece. I would’ve been devastated otherwise as I’ve killed both 😅
