I used to coach Anderssen personally and I always taught him to keep an eye out for a creative rook move and to keep his head under pressure. He was always very quick on the up-take - a pleasure to teach. J.K.
what makes this game so good is that black had such a strong counterattack. there are many great games which ended in an awesome combination, but most of them are games where the combination was simply the killing blow after achieving a winning position.
Wonderful idea for black through 13....Bb6 to give one of his extra pawns back, activating his QR and getting his dark-squared bishop both on a better, attacking diagonal and better protecting it. He also sidelines the White Queen and breaks the White battery aimed at f7. Impressive play to that point by Dufresne.
What a magnificent cm by Anderssen right up there with Morphy even Morphy would have said bravo take a bow just spectacular but I have one question for mato sir how come Anderssen did so badly against Morphy can any one give a satisfactory reply
Mato, I saw a video where somebody commented that you sound like Count Dracula, and you asked who Count Dracula is. Did you really not know who he is, or were you just trolling us?
znaci kad pocnem da igram partiju da stavim praznu tablu ispred sebe i da zamisljam poteze, ili kad dodjem do odredjenog problema da tek tada se primijenim toga?
Howard Staunton supposedly wrote afterwards that 19. ... Qh3 is also losing for Black. However, my chess engine recommends that, and doesn't recommend a way for White to win. Does anyone know how White wins in this scenario?
Does anyone else see that Knight to E7 to capture the Rook was actually the nail in the coffin. Thats what cleared up room for the Queen to make the sacrifice. If King would have moved out of check to D8 instead, he could have won the game right??
Yes I was thinking about the same but black was lost in this case too. After the check from the rook there was two squares available for king to move first if it moves to F8 then rook E8 to E3 discover check from bishop and whatever he plays black queen is lost . In second line if after the check if king moves to safer square D8 THEN Rook takes the D7 pawn with check now if king does not take the rook and moves to c7, then rook to D8 with check. Now it's the forcible to capture the rook if you take the rook with the rook then pawn takes black queen and if the king takes rook then white bishop from e3 to d2 with discover check from rook and winning black queen. And if knight takes the rook then queen to D7 with check. Only move here is king takes queen. Then bishop to f5 double check. Only move here is king to c6 then bishop to D7 with check and checkmate.
Because of this game i began years ago to play chess. And i think actually this game is the best game of all time an not the legendary Kasparov vs. Topalov-Game. I mostly like games between Adolf Anderssen an Paul Morphy. Both players where really brilliant masters. Morphy was better, cause he's Mozart of Chess.
No, because after K D8, R D7+ and if KxD7, almost same continuation like played in the game. If K C8 > R D8+ !. If Rook on D7 or King capture white Rook on D8, then black Queen is lost, and so the game. If Nite on C6 capture Rook on D8, then again white sacrifices Queen on D7 and black is lost.
probaj sa sahom na slepo, kada se izvestis u tome bice ti mnogo lakse da igras regularni sah svrha igranja saha na slepo je da razvijes svoj ,,unutrasnji vid,, meni je bilo od izuzetne pomoci
Didn't liked that you just say this is a good move, this is a bad move, instead of explaining yourself. I also didn't like that you don't say why did he play something instead of something else.
+Nic Szer I understand what you say but Mato's goal is to present great games in a swift matter. Also most of the times its kind of obvious why is it a bad move. If you wish a deeper analysis video you may visit another channels who present that in 30+ min. Have a nice day.

Thank you for the great commentaries! After you taught me the Evans Gambit I gave it a go and came up with a win - you are a fantastic teacher sir!
Mato thank you for your reviews and dedication! You are the best!
One move away from mate, and white pulls this off! Thank you for finding this one, Mato. I love your commentary
Anderssen is just real genius - He knew so many Good moves ahead and won!
what makes this game so good is that black had such a strong counterattack. there are many great games which ended in an awesome combination, but most of them are games where the combination was simply the killing blow after achieving a winning position.
Thanks Mato! You're doing chess lovers a great service!
So brilliant I had to watch it again! Do you analysis games, teach etc on-line?
Personally, I wouldn't have done it that way..... I'd have made a different set of moves and had my ass handed to me..... Amazing game
I spit my coffee laughing.

Still one of the most beautiful finishes to a chess game

I don't like watching vampire movies but I know who Count Dracula is. I was offended by the comment and blocked the user.
Honest disagreements will always be present. Anderssen's rook at A1 to D1 gets my vote as the best move ever made.
A very different move I like is Karpov's bishop versus Unzicker, Nice, 1974..
It's a fantastic trap but 19 ... Qh3! would have drawn. The boring 19. Be4 was stronger.
That’s the best silent killer move ever
Wow what a game. Talk about a last-minute comeback. That's very impressive.
Thank you
Rd1 is a deadly quiet move..
Awesome game! I always love a good Queen sacrifice. 🤩
Wow...look at the final position - all black pieces are aiming at the white king..white is literally a move away from checkmate..what a game!
oh..that is art
how can a person put him in such a position..
just winning in the last second
What a game! Wow!
What a magnificent cm by Anderssen right up there with Morphy even Morphy would have said bravo take a bow just spectacular but I have one question for mato sir how come Anderssen did so badly against Morphy can any one give a satisfactory reply
at 1:03 why not c3? Black pawn seems pretty much lost anyway, so why not take some material? Will it give too much development to white?
Wonderful game
Awesome, that is beautiful.
i saw the killer move but dint know about the bishop going f5 i thought b5 and mayo what native language do u speak cuz I'm polish
Hvala Mato !
Incredible finish.
I always enjoy the part "We have reached critical position of the game" interesting game,Black had his chances.
Mato, I saw a video where somebody commented that you sound like Count Dracula, and you asked who Count Dracula is. Did you really not know who he is, or were you just trolling us?
What if Be4?.... not good enough? * a killa move suggestion*
Traumatic for Dufresne.
At move 19, what about Rxg2ch? it allows the king an escape square at g8.
Mato says "CHECK++++MATE, Mmmmmm!!!"
wonderful !
briliant game, thank you mato
What would happen if after Rook takes on e7, black plays King to d8?

My favourite game in chess history i think
yesterday brought me here

lol really? there's an checkmate thread after that.....
beautiful!!!!

Great game!!!
at 6:42 why not king to c6 ?? it saves the game for black and white loses
if king to c6 then bishop to d7 checkmate
man, you missed checkmate in one?!
After the killer move of B-f5, why not QxB?
Ahh, never mind. Double check.
+pmcnamara1954
Its a discovered check. Both Rook and Bishop are checking the king.
Cool as a cucumber on the precipice.
fantastic

why not? berlin is a big city in a well known country :)
great!
Does KD8 after rook check win for black?
No, because after K D8, R D7+ and if KxD7, almost same continuation like played in the game. If K C8 > R D8+ !. If Rook on D7 or King capture white Rook on D8, then black Queen is lost, and so the game. If Nite on C6 capture Rook on D8, then again white sacrifices Queen on D7 and black is lost.
I found everything but the killer move
why not king to c6 instead of e8?
Bd7 Checkmate
I teach live only
Bishop to d7 check...mate!
I found the killer move
ahh i understand why Qh3 is better because the queen is protection d7 pawn when Rxe7+ then Kd8 Rxd7+ Qxd7 oooh i understand now
Mato, Dufresne is pronounced Dufren
I ll be back !!!
It's pronounced du-FRAIN.
wuauuuuuuuu
Especially in Berlin :-s
white bishop d7 for checkmate
HA! you pronounced "Berlin" correctly!
🗣🥴Wow
it's "dufrein"
Evergreen gama
he speaks croatian
not good coz that will only win queen and that is not good enough as black is up material wise by a big margin.

Bud, you gotta pay for personal lessons.
+Crusader King Most other chess channels do as I explained, that's why I didn't liked it.
